    Char burger combo
    Stacey V.

"Meh I've experience better" is the best way to express how BF and I felt about Burgers & Shakes. He is a burger person, I'm not. We work in Barrhaven so we decided to stop by this burger joint on a Tuesday around 5pm. The place wasn't really busy, but plenty of staff was at attention to take our order and cook our burgers. It seemed to be getting busier as we were leaving after our meal. I got the Char burger combo, and he got the Super Char burger combo. No shakes. It came to around 27$ for both of us, the combos both included a can of soda + a small fry. The patties were cooked well, not too much, nor too little. The service was friendly and fast. The fries were "meh". The patty to bun ratio was my biggest disappointment. There was too much bun for the patty. And the patty was not seasoned, at all. Oh, and they charge for 1 slice of cheddar cheese. Overall, in my opinion the food tasted bland and there was nothing special about it. Considering the many other burger joints in the city, I don't see what would bring me to come back or recommend Burgers & Shakes to any of my friends.

BETTER THAN 5-GUYS! I got in right before a huge line up -- man was it packed ( it was around 1pm on a Sunday) Waiting about 10 Minutes for my order and it was totally worth the wait. I ordered the super charboiled burger with a medium size of fresh cut fries. This place is legit better than 5-Guys. 5-Guys burgers seem so measly compared to these guys. The patti is made in the restaurant the the buns are nicely grilled. These burgers are thiqqq and juicy. Not to mention quite large. The fries are actually amazing as well! Crispy but also pretty thick cut. I also ordered ONE scoop of ice cream : Cherry and dark chocolate K. Guys. This serving was more like a three scooper. Threesome anyone? Needless to say. I was stuffed and satisfied. Tummy Pat.

Go for the shakes and stay for the shakes. Beat shakes around. Great price, amazing consistency in the shakes.

Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Servers were really friendly getting us situated with our daughter and the wagon we use to transport her around. Very family friendly as we saw several other parents with strollers as well. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

I actually think I've had it once before, but that would've been 15ish years ago so I think enough time has passed haha I also had it topped with shrimp, which I don't think the Works even has anymore as an ingredient. I chose a sesame multi-grain and upgraded to a Kobe-style wagyu beef patty, bun and sweet potato fries with a side of Beechhouse sauce. As you can imagine, this order was quite expensive, since the Works burgers are already pretty pricey. The sweet potato fries were worth the upgrade, in my opinion, especially with the extra Beechhouse sauce for dipping. They were crispy, not too greasy or salty, and there were plenty. I always love their unique Beechhouse sauce and it's perfect with the sweet potato fries instead of mayo or ketchup. I know it has carrots in it because you can see the small shreds, but it's not like a carrot dip (ha!); I just find it really flavourful. The burger was good, but I wish I had just ordered the standard Canadian beef patty. My husband ordered it and his was less done than mine, which I liked better. My patty was smaller and more cooked, which made it drier and bit less flavourful, in my opinion. The Beechhouse sauce and avocado helped the dryness of the patty, and the crumbled feta added that bit of salty flavour. The tartness of the few sun-dried tomatoes brightened it up a bit and wasn't overpowering. I also got a Caesar that was the daily special and it was good. The food was made and presented well and service was friendly. I'm sure we'll be back here if we're craving the Works in the future.

After having a horrible experience with this chain a few years ago, I wrote them off completely. I…read morewanted to give them another chance since I was out of town and wouldn't be giving the Waterloo location business. Now, I'm done completely. I was going to an event that I had a time reservation for and planned to have an hour to dine here, as that is usually more than enough in most restaurants. There was an accident, which prolonged traffic by 10 minutes, but once I arrived, I figured 50 minutes would be enough. The restaurant is on the smaller size and it seemed as if they were really busy. There was a baseball team eating in there, but they got up and left a few minutes after I sat down, so they had been finished for a little while. I waited for almost 15 minutes for someone to just come to my table and take my order. Now, I'm going to harp on something that restaurants have been doing to cheap out on their diners for a few years now. You used to go to a place to eat and get a full sized drink, I'm talking tall glass, at least 10-12 oz. Drinks back then were $8 - $10 average, but you got a DRINK. Now they use little highball glasses and charge $14 -$18 a drink. This has really started to get under my skin. It skyrockets the price of your total bill, especially if you indulge in a second. It's gotten to the point I've pretty much decided to stop having a drink with dinner anymore when going out. This place was the extreme. Another way they cheat you is by filling up that tiny glass with ice so that there is barely any drink in it at all. I asked my server to go easy on the ice. Please, look at the attached picture of the drink. The picture I took was before I had even a single sip. I was so angry, I was done right then. I had been at the restaurant for 45 minutes and still had no food. I flagged down my server and told her I had to leave because of an appointment. They did pack up the food to go, but have you ever tried to eat poutine in your car? I decided to at least take a bite before leaving. Took a BIG bite because at this point I was starving. No pineapple. I opened up the bun and there was no pineapple in sight, no cheddar cheese, no bacon jam. ALL of which this ripoff joint charges extra for. 2.50 for a slice of pineapple and the bacon jam. $1.50 for the cheese. I really needed to go, but went back in to tell her. She apologized and went into the kitchen and came back and said the pineapple was there. She had me life the patty. Yes, there was, I kid you not. 1/4 of a ring of pineapple slice. No wonder I didn't taste it. 2.50 for a quarter of a ring? So I paid 6.50 for toppings I essentially didn't get. She told me they took half off the burger for the extreme wait and the bill was still over $40! Horrid service, skimping on drinks and food. When you cheat your customers like this, they won't return. Did you really save anything? This place is overpriced anyway. When I eat out, I don't mind paying $100 for a bill with a good portion of quality food and a fairly priced drink. But this crap? I'll never go back again. They should call it The Ripoff Works. Done. Forever.

The place only had a handful of tables occupied, which was great for us, since we did not have a reservation. It did get busier as the night went on. We were seated at a lovely long table, near the front of the restaurant, away all the other groups, which was awesome and we had a quaint, lovely, family dinner. We all agreed, the menu isn't very inspiring (it really hasn't changed much since I dined here several years ago), but we were there for the company. Some of the group members thought their food was overcooked and ho hum (the chicken wings in particular). I ordered the nachos and thought they were fine, and it hit the spot. Fries were good. My hubby did complain about a bug at the bottom of his wine glass, but we weren't sure if it landed in there prior or after, so we just dismissed it. The service was super friendly and our waitress checked in on us when appropriate, but was not hovering. We weren't rushed out and we were given time to enjoy our food and just hang out, which is why I am giving this restaurant a 4 star. I do wish they added new, fun items to their menu. More bar inspired apps would be nice and updated main meals.
