Parking was plentiful, and I entered the building not knowing what to expect. When you enter, you can see this is a just a different but amazing place. They have freezers with meat, deli cases with meat, fridge with meat, and more deli cases with meat. There are other non-meat like cheese, desserts, and bread. For my visit, I bought some Braunschwager aka: liver sausage. The flavor was very good.. but yet a little strong for my taste bud. However, I would still rate it top 10 that I have ever tried. Jerky dip was delicious. It was very easily spreadable and a little sweet. Wagyu Tallow was in the end of the fridge aisle. I will have to test this out when I smoke some brisket or something. Overall, the prices were very reasonable especially given today's-inflation prices. I am a huge fan and will return in the future to try more stuff. Especially the jerky!

This is not what you may remember as your Mom's or Grandmother's butcher shop. In my view they are a specialty shop providing premium quality at premium prices. The store is tucked in the corner of a small shopping center and parking can be a challenge on a Saturday. It is clean and bright. I am glad to see though, that there are still artisans with a commitment to quality, and craftsmanship in a trade--AI, thankfully, has no place here in delivering fresh, luxurious cuts of beef, pork and other fine meat either pre-cut or carved to your specifications. I have not been here before so I decided to give them a try starting with several, precut NY Strip steaks and several burger patties to prepare on the grill. The service is polite and professional--not a lot of time for chit-chatting with your butcher like I remember my Grandmother doing. There were several customers waiting in the small shop so I did not feel comfortable trying to dive into the particulars of the meat sourced so I just went with it. The steaks were fairly large cuts, just over one inch thick, and with what struck me as medium marbleization. The USDA grade was not posted on the price tags (that I saw). I decided to see if I could get away with a reverse sear on the steaks and it worked out pretty well though I kept the precook at a lower temperature than I normally would with a thicker cut for fear of over cooking them before I got them to the grill. That worked out well, getting them off the grill at medium doneness. The steaks were reasonably tender, juicy, with, as hoped, a luscious, beefy umami and enjoyed by my guests. I paired everything with a nice Côt which was just perfect. I decided to try the burgers on the griddle top, done to medium, and they were flavorful and juicy. I have to say I was satisfied with the quality and did not feel taken to the cleaners at almost $30 a pound for the steaks though I am not sure this will be a weekly stop (that price point was one of the lower ones in the shop). I will, however, come back for those times I am having special guests or family for those special occasions and will likely update then.

They answered promptly! The store is well situated just north of the tracks downtown Downers Grove. The cashier greeted us and took our order as we looked around the shop. I got some fresh applewood smoked bacon which usually I'd cook on stovetop. After talking with owner for a while he reminded me to cook it in oven and let me just say I have been doing it wrong my whole life. The applewood smell in my house afterwards was like I just smoked it myself! Hands down one of the coolest guys I've talked to and for sure will be back to try everything else! Thank you

I have noticed that I "usually" have to pay attention to the price on the shelf vs. the checkout price. Just today, 4/18/26, I bought Mrs. Fisher's potato chips. Price on the shelf: $3.99. (GREAT DEAL - Which is specifically why I BOUGHT THEM). Price at checkout: $4.69. Customer Service was very nice (Symone). Went to check pricing, came back and said: That's for the smaller bag. My reply: Well, THIS size (1.5lb) is sitting behind the $3.99 tag. She gave me a DOLLAR back immediately. I made $.30. No need to get heated, she was wonderful, so big deal, right? My issue is NOT with her. NO. This is my most recent experience. It's happened before, and I always get a bit more in refund than what's truly the difference. However, THIS HAPPENS A LOT with Schmucks. We rarely shop there due to their being expensive, and this "price hike at checkout".
