See those ropes? You'll do arm rows with them, pulling your body weight.

Burn Boot Camp Louisville officially opened this week; however, they've done a great job promoting their opening with pop-up camps and free promotions over the past 2-3 months. They've set up on Hurtbourne, next to Lucky's & Sugarbakers Consignment. You won't miss them in the dark hours of the morning - they are the only business with lights on by 5 am! While I'd been following their social media page and receiving emails, as usual I hadn't pushed myself to attend a free pop-up camp (and I like free stuff!). Always something to do, always an excuse. But, I was laying around the house on orientation day and wanted to visit Lucky's anyway, so I attended. Orientation was an opportunity to meet the owners and staff, plus learn more about the boot camp workouts, their philosophy, etc. They were ready for us! Everyone was greeted at the door with a high-five and checked in on an IPAD. We signed waivers, received a pamphlet and a list of whole foods. What I most enjoyed was hearing the stories of the owners, who recently joined the franchise and moved to Louisville. Their passion for the bigger picture - helping others to stay healthy and live an enhanced, enjoyable life - came through loud and clear. Burn Boot Camp's target is women and the bulk of their workouts are for them. They do allow co-ed workouts during 5:30 & 6:30 pm classes though and say the majority of men are spouses. You'll learn quickly no machines exist at Burn Boot Camp - they say YOU are the machine. You workout on a raised floor that bounces with you and split into groups that rotate to (4) stations, multiple times. Depending on the day, you'll focus on different body targets, so the stations will vary each day as well as the equipment. In between the group may be stopped to hit the floor and do core work. The stations are explained very well by your trainer, who leads the entire group (no matter the size) and walks around to ensure everyone has good form and is staying pumped. Every exercise can be modified, which I appreciate. I'm there for me only - not to impress anyone, and also not to hold someone back if I'm at their station. Is the workout intense? YES ... but I truly believe this is a boot camp for everyone, at any ability level. Not just because the exercises can be modified but because the trainer's focus is really to keep you moving, not push you to a breaking point. The only thing that should be breaking down is your muscle! Some examples of stations: inclined push-ups, bicep curls, high knees running a flat ladder, weighted squats with kettle balls, mountain climbers, planks. Don't be intimidated - you'll be doing 1-2 minutes at a station and then you'll rotate until you've completed the circuit about 4-5 times. Workouts are 45 minutes and I love that. Enough time to burn calories but not get bored and/or wiped out for the rest of the day. I've been attending 5:30 am classes and can tell that my body is already adjusting to the early waking time because I've done something good for it. Check the schedule for classes that offer free child care. A shower is also available. Lastly, when you join Burn Boot Camp, you will have a 10-15 min focus meeting with a trainer. It's primarily to take your measurements and BMI. You will also be asked your goal for signing up (i.e. lose weight, build muscle, more energy, etc.) and talk to you about calorie intake, protein and sugar intake. Protein is a big deal and you'll get several reminders to be mindful of your intake. PS ... they play fun, kick-butt music here! It'll keep you going as you high-five a work out buddy.

I am currently in search of a challenging workout routine and I think I may have found it here at Burn Boot Camp. This was my first workout and I know I will be feeling it tomorrow. They offer alot of scheduled boot camp class options and even offer child care. The workout lasted 45 mins and was very challenging even with me moderating alot of the moves. I enjoyed the group training atmosphere and felt very welcomed by the staff and its members.

Beware if the gym has to close they will continue to charge your card even though the contract doesn't state that.

This is one of my most favorite places!!…read more I've been a member at Edge Body for years now. It all started at their old Hikes Point location with a 6 week Groupon and I was hooked. The current location is awesome... so spacious with so much equipment. Everyone is friendly and the staff is always so helpful, encouraging, knowledgeable, and will challenge you if need be. I've made several friends there as well, where we will hold each other accountable which also motivates you to keep going. Each day is a different designed workout for specific areas of the body with music playing through their systems. It's nice to not have to think about what you need to do at the gym that day or design your own workout or even try to push yourself. It's all there for you! They even have heart monitors you can check out/wear to track your heart rate and calories. The workouts: Sunday is core, Monday is total body, Tuesday is lower body, Wednesday is core & cardio, Thursday is upper body, Friday is a challenge day that will work your whole body, and Saturday offers an Advanced Camp, Yoga, and a free (with the donation of a canned good) :45 total body workout for anyone (that means non-members too). That free workout is called Get Fit Give Back. All the canned goods are then donated to Dare to Care. I love that they give back. The work outs are in :30 increments which helps members to stagger their start times. However, if you put two :30 workouts back to back, the hour will be all different... and then it will start over. The trainers will also help you meal plan, offer nutrition classes, track your progress, etc... whatever it will take to help you succeed.

As of right now they get a 1 star because it seems they don't have time to reach back out to…read moreinquiries about their gym! You would think that they would a least try to make contact with prospective clients!! I have reached out at least 3 times and still haven't gotten a response! Not looking very good on their end!!

I am a fan and 4-year member at OTF... but something irked me today during my regular 10:45 Sunday…read moreclass at Orangetheory Fitness in Middletown/Louisville, KY... I had a new instructor named, Zan (at least new to me) and she approached me in the gym area before class and reprimanded me for taking an isolated shot of an empty treadmill and empty rower. Said photos aren't allowed. First, this is news to me as just about every week someone is snapping a group shot after a workout or a selfie etc... My pic was for a personal streak with a gal pal as a show of solidarity to working out. Anyway, I am cool with Corporate Policy BUT if a staffer is going to approach you in that matter they need to say & explain the following: 1) Cite pictures are not allowed due to Company Policy 2) Tell the person why it is Company Policy (example: hospitals are protecting privacy). This was an empty gym - I have no clue why that isn't permitted. 3) Take a soft approach when talking to a customer 4) Be consistent with your messaging. Don't allow pictures one day and not another. Mixed messages never go ever well. This review is coming from a gal who likes the results of OTF but really wants the Franchise to know they need to train young coaches and staffers up in regards to Communications.

I adore this place and the staff. I started working out in August when I was the most out of shape…read moreI've ever been, fighting an achilles injury. It was hard to get started, but everyone was so supportive! There are many options for the cardio aspect of the work out, you can choose: running on the treadmill or walking (lots of people walk, don't worry about being the only one), glider (elliptical), or the bike. The rower is also incorporated in either the cardio or the weight lifting portion of the work out. Don't let the idea of weights scare you. The instructors help you every step of the way. It's like a private trainer without the private cost! The trainers were able to modify every exercise I needed to accommodate my injury. Plus, if you need a reminder of the exercise, there are videos playing to review as needed. Plus the music is fun and the heart monitor is an awesome tool to know when to push harder or back off! Try out a free class and join me!
