You would think that for a business that works directly with people on either the happiest or saddest days of their lives, the woman who runs it wouldnt have such a sour face on. She is super unapproachable and clearly prides herself in being a rude BZ. There are plenty of previous reviews stating the same thing. This is the last place I would ever go for flowers or just all around hospitality. Go to Express Bouquet down the street! At least they actually look like a florist shop and are very nice! read more

I am compelled to write this review based on the level of customer service that I received from Kelly. My Valentines Day arrangement was less than perfect and Kelly, rather than sweeping it under the rug and hoping I would go away, resolved the problem. You really don't get this level of customer service very often and because of this, although my first order wasn't perfect, I would be willing to give Burns Florists another chance. read more

Last week I got married with the most beautiful flowers thanks to Lou at Burns Florist. We were doing some serious last minute planning and wanted to do a lot of the flowers ourselves and he totally got it. Not only did he provide us with gorgeous, fresh, stunning flowers, he also designed lovely boutonnieres and corsages that lasted forever (I saw my dad's boutonniere still stuck to his jacket two days later, and it was in much better shape than the jacket was!). The wedding party and I had a blast putting together the flowers for the tables because Lou provided so many and such beautiful ones. He even made me a bridal bouquet "just in case" I wasn't happy with the one I was planning on putting together. When I saw it I didn't even consider making my own. If you care about having a florist who is both knowledgeable and passionate about his work, plus is a joy to work with, this is without a doubt the right place. Lou not only swooped in to help me out at the last minute, he made getting the flowers a joyful experience. Thank you Lou! read more

This is a 2-part review, one, very late, for July 2014 and the second from last week, July 17th, 2018. In both cases, they were very friendly & helpful, the flowers were terrific, and service was above & beyond. For my 32nd wedding anniversary in 2014, I asked them to deliver 32 dozen roses to my wife's office. Yes, thirty-two dozen. I also asked them if they could play (iPhone or similar) "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers while they were bringing the roses into her office. Lastly, I asked them to deliver an additional dozen (#33) to Frascati restaurant (Hyde & Green, Russian Hill, SF) where I had made dinner reservations. I think I gave them several days to no more than a week to get things organized. They performed flawlessly, and beautifully! The entire office watched as the Burns team unloaded 32 dozen roses, with the Proclaimers accompanying, and tears flowing from my wife. It took a while to get all the flowers inside and find a place to put them. Later, when the limo dropped us at Frascati, a dozen roses were on the table in the loft when we arrived. All 33 dozen arrangements were fresh and beautiful! I'll add that they did not charge me a delivery fee for the dozen at the Frascati. It was a beautiful thing and I became the most-hated husband among the other husbands at my wife's office! So, to commemorate, this week, I stopped by Burn's and asked them to deliver 36 roses, just 36 flowers, not 36 dozen, but to have them all in one vase (figured it best not to test the patience of the office a second time). I stopped by just before lunch on the 16th and asked for delivery on the 17th. They created a beautiful arrangement and I got a text & pic saying thanks for the flowers just before lunch (17th). Again, the roses were beautiful. They remembered me from 2014 and we had fun & laughs remembering the 2014 delivery. I would certainly recommend Burns. They were excellent both times and I would say delivering 32 dozen, with music, and another dozen into the City is a pretty good test of their work, stamina, and sense of the occasion. Sadly, I'll add that the 33 dozen, plus a 34th that I had waiting when she woke that morning (also from Burns), didn't do the trick. Our divorce was final Dec 27th, 2017. We're still good friends but she wanted something else. I sent her 36 roses last week as a reminder that I still love her. Thank you guys at Burn's. I greatly appreciate all that you have done. Called Burns Florist yesterday to order some flowers for a young lady I'm trying to court currently..Kelly went the extra mile and made sure that she worked at the place of her employment because I wasn't a 100% sure. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I contacted Burns Florist for my wedding flowers and provided Kelly with all the information necessary for a quote (e.g., type of flowers, delivery information, quantity, etc.). I had to call Kelly twice to provide the same information because I presume she didn't write it down the first time and then it took her 8 days to get back to me with a quote. By the time I finally got the quote, I had decided to make my own bridal bouquets and ordered boutonnières from another florist. I never responded to the quote Kelly sent and we never spoke again on the phone. Then on my wedding day, despite not having an order from me, not receiving any confirmation that I was still interested in flowers or any other type of confirmation, her company delivered flowers to my venue and left them there without speaking to me or getting any type of approval. No one knew where the flowers came from so the flowers were left sitting at the venue. A few days after my wedding, I received an email from them demanding payment for the flowers they delivered which I never ordered! I responded immediately and explained that I never placed the order and would not be paying for something I did not order. I then left the country for my honeymoon and during this time I received many threatening voicemails from Burns including a voicemail at my place of work threatening that if I don't pay they will take me to court and "make me look bad at my work." This type of behavior is absolutely unprofessional and uncalled for especially when they are 100% at fault. I can't believe any business would have the audacity to do something like this! Terrible service. The only reason they are getting 2 is they returned my money. They didn't deliver the flowers and never contacted me. I found out from the people who were to receive the delivery that it hadn't come. I then had to call them and they never returned my call. I'm glad to have my money back, but now my mother will not be getting flowers on Mother's Day. Update: they did finally call and gave an apology. It seems that they no longer use the online ordering service through Bloomnation, which is linked to their yelp page. So beware, if you try to order online thorough their yelp page, you may not get your flowers. read more

They quoted me at $18 per stem for peonies during peony season. I don't know where they are sourcing their flowers from, but this place is clearly marking up their flowers terribly. There are so many other wonderful florists in Marin. I'd seek out other options. read more

When I visited Burns Florist to get a bough for my Christmas decoration, I met Jo who had recently purchased this age-old business in San Rafael. We instantly connected and when my daughter announced her engagement I immediately thought of Jo to help me with the flowers. I knew that we had a tight budget and wanted to do a portion of the flowers myself but also wanted the bouquets to be done professionally. The elegant floral centerpieces Kelly created for our family party added a touch of magic to the room. She put together two large bowl centerpieces and six smaller square centerpieces with a stunning array of flowers in the exact color scheme we had discussed over the phone. I still can't get over the thoughtful service I got from Lou, owner of Burns Florist, when buying flowers for my committment ceremony. We went to Burns 2 weeks before the party, to suss out the flower situation, and met Lou. He asked what kind of a party we were buying for, I said "it's a committment ceremony!" I had no idea what I needed and I just threw myself on his mercy. At first I thought it was kind of weird. He seemed so lacksadasical(sp?) that it made me nervous. He hadn't written an order, or taken any notes. So I called a few times more, asking for little things like rose petals for the altar, flowers for my hair. I reminded him we didn't have a huge budget, and he kept saying, "don't worry don't worry". Then he told me to come in just before closing Friday night. The event was on a Saturday afternoon, so I was terrified that this all too casual transaction would go horribly wrong and I'd be stuck with no place to find flowers in time. So here is the reason for the 5 stars. Mother-in-law in tow, I walk into the store, 15 minutes before closing on Friday and Lou proceeds to load me up with so many bundles of beautiful flowers and greens I barely knew what to do with myself. He had saved a big box of petals for me from the trimmings of the big wedding he was doing. He had wrapped some orchids with wire so I could attach them to my hairclips. I couldn't believe he had remembered these little details from a 2 minute phone call 2 weeks before! I had brought in one example of the vases I had, which he decided was too small so he swapped me for one of his big gorgeous vases. He gave me an insane deal on white roses because they were gloriously wide open, like big garden flowers. (most people want their roses tight and closed) He gave us an impromptu class in flower arranging. I asked him about mums and he screwed up his face disapprovingly and said, "you don't want mums, you want lilies". When he saw my terror at the growing pile of gorgeous flowers he said, "Don't worry!". When he rang up the bill, my mother-in-law was amazed on how reasonably priced this all was. He replied, " I really like what you girls are doing, and I want you to have a good time!". So not only are his flowers beautiful and reasonably priced, but he's gay friendly as well! 2 weeks later we're only just throwing away the last of the flowers, and even the wide open roses lasted for almost a week. His easy going style masks an attention to detail and incredible kindness that just cannot be faked. He's certainly got my business from now on, even though that means driving out of the way. read more

I went the night before Valentines and placed an order for my girlfriend for dozen pink roses and paid 114$ total for afternoon delivery! The next morning I called at 7:30am to change my order to 6 red and 6 pink, the owner told me that they were not sure they could do that for me so I just crossed my fingers. The delivery was set for the afternoon and at 10:30am they were delivered! I called her to try to see if she could do something for me an d she flat out said NO. Kelly and Candace really went the extra mile for me when I wanted to find a gardenia to wear in my daughter's wedding. I had assumed these were stock items but found out I needed more time to order ahead. They were SO kind and arranged for me to have what I wished for by working it out with someone who had pre-ordered theirs and had a longer time frame. Burns Florist created the most beautiful arrangements for our Mammoth, CA wedding!! Krista took my vision and turned it into simply the most stunning job that I could ask for. She is very knowledgeable about the business (seasonal flowers, hardiness of flowers, etc.,) and will provide the best service for your wedding. Our guests were so floored by the quality and unique design of our arrangements. We used birch logs for the guest tables and handmade wood boxes for the head tables, and she filled them with gorgeous garden roses, regular roses, succulents, lisanthus, dahilas, and dusty miller. My bouquet was to die for, so full of the colors that I wanted and just fabulous. Without Krista, our wedding wouldn't have been complete!! read more

I called Burn's for a floral arrangement the day before a family friend's memorial service at a San Rafael church. The memorial was scheduled for 11 a.m. the next day. Very disappointed in their customer service as well - no apology, no response to my email, and no response to the florist who placed the florist to florist order. Granara's Flowers in San Carlos, CA stands by their customers and it was Granara's Flowers who sent the family an additional gift as an apology. Kaplan/Burns Florist is the best in Marin. The store is beautiful with lots of ideas for u to chose from Easy parking. Ordering by phone is a snap. I order some flowers 4 my daughter who works in SF. Owner Krista Kaplan championed a number of unusual challenges when she took on this large and elegant Nob Hill wedding ceremony, reception, and dance. For one thing her clients wanted "Cole Porter" style flowers and arrangements and she was barraged with their research, a zillion images, and even a long list of flowers and composition styles they called "Not's". Krista rose and embraced this challenge throughout the design process and was always open, astute, patient, and accommodating. Also complicating the project as did venturing into the past for floral design were the late-decided and complex floor plan specs for three large lobbies, a ceremony hall, a large banquet room, two bars, two lounges, two piano tops, and a dance hall. The floor plans had a confusing (and changing) panoply of tables and other surfaces to adorn and to coordinate with the decor designer's elaborate, eclectic tablescapes evocative of a "Cole Porter elegant speakeasy but loosened up". Krista got it and was fantastic to work with--competent, calm, flexible, and fully enfranchised in the cause. On top of her consistent professionalism and competence, Krista became my fairy god-sister in spirit, too. As commonly happens during the final weeks before "curtain" when the production machine of a large-scale wedding cranks into high gear, the devil is in the myriad details of coordination. In this particular instance unexpected monkey wrenches came into play when a "Month Of" coordinator came aboard. Krista, wise and poised to "expect the unexpected", helped me tremendously to get through some stormy weather as would a sagacious dear friend. I am ever grateful to her and to her staff not only for their very beautiful floral arrangements and their especially hard work, but for the steadfast commitment to my cause and the compassionate support--well beyond the call of florists' professional duties--that they gave me. By all reports not only the bridal couple and the guests but even the on-site staff and the photographer were dazzled by the work product--thank you!!!!! read more
