Can not say enough good things about AJ Waterproofing. I had been having an issue with water getting into my crawl space for a long time. I called a different company first, and they immediately said I would need a french drain and sump pump for several thousand dollars, and it felt like they weren't really diagnosing the problem at all. Then I was lucky enough to reach out to AJ for a second opinion - he had me show him the backyard and exterior walls and stairs of my house over FaceTime, and he took a careful look at every crack, every little nook and cranny - he concluded all the moisture in the crawl space had to do with problems on the house's exterior. Update: AJ called me back after reading my original review and apologized for his behavior during our previous conversation. He then spent several minutes asking me about what I decided about radon remediation and offering tips for how to make the systems coexist, providing questions to ask the radon contractor, and offering assistance on any future concerns before apologizing again. This second conversation was genuinely helpful; and both his following up on my original questions and the apology were really appreciated on my end. Original Review: This is not a review for the actual work of waterproofing. I purchased a house with the waterproofing done earlier this year by AJ Waterproofing and reached out to ask about how the transferable warranty may be affected and work with a radon remediation solution. AJ, instead of answering my one or two questions about how the waterproofing could be affected, spent our 10 minute call being entirely too confrontational, insulting me, explaining how I shouldn't worry about radon levels, yelling, accusing me of lying, telling me that my radon remediation contractor isn't looking out for my interests and accusing me of wanting to waste his time. To his credit about 60 seconds of that was actually explaining what I asked. But, when I asked him to repeat something to make sure I understood, he rhetorically questioned himself aloud "Is this the sort of person that I'm talking to!? that can't even listen when someone else is talking!?" And when I asked him if he minded if I pulled the radon remediation guy in on our call, he shouted into the phone "Whoo hoo! Yea, let's do it!... Because I don't have jack S#*+ else to do!". Based on my experience, I would never recommend AJ waterproofing... unless perhaps you enjoy being verbally abused and treated with utter contempt. read more

AJ spent more than a considerable amount of time with me on the phone, explaining the different ways in which we could be getting water and advising on things we could do on our own first, without having to get an expensive french drain in. Just as a preface: we didn't use AJ at his own recommendation. Absolutely unbelievable service. We've been having a bit of water come into the basement. After a plumber thought it may be groundwater, we called AJ for an appointment. He asked to set up a Facetime call to walk through and see the issue. I have never spoken with anyone who has taken so much time or care to look at and walk through an issue. AJ had me go along the whole of my basement, get up close to where the problem was, and talked through everything. He probably spent 45 minutes on the call, and ended with a suggestion to try to get to the bottom of the problem. That was our first call. We had a second call the next day to further troubleshoot. Ultimately, it was determined this was a problem for a plumber, not a waterproofing contractor. He then proceeded to speak with a neighbor who owned a lot of houses in Philly, to get the number of a trustworthy plumber. I'm honestly floored. We're still waiting on the final diagnosis, but AJ was amazing. If we actually needed waterproofing services, he'd be the obvious choice. read more

We received quotes from two different companies, BasementPros and AJs. The quote from BasementPros was significantly lower, but we went with AJ's Waterproofing instead. Here is why: The other company came in, barely looked at our situation, and recommended an internal French drain installation. They offered us that because it's what they sell, and that's how they make money. AJ's waterproofing operates a little differently. The owner himself (AJ) comes out, investigates your scenario, and then gives a recommendation to solve the problem. Then AJ shows up with his crew, and they perform the work. AJ was doing some of the work himself. It is not common for the owner of a multi-decade old business to be out there during the install, let alone to be participating in the work himself. I did end up getting an internal french drain, but it was the best solution for this particular situation. AJ and his crew (Javier, Pedro, and one other whose name I didn't catch) were meticulous. They are perfectionists who pride themselves on work quality. This includes the quality of the internal drain, as well as efforts to protect your home from damage during the work and reasonable clean-up afterwards. Again, this is different from other waterproofing companies. Other companies are sometimes sloppy, and often concerned with maximizing profit by maximizing the quantity of the jobs they do, while minimizing the quality. The cost was higher than the other company, but in exchange you get AJ's experience, increased confidence in success, and something AJ isn't afraid to put a lifetime warranty on. read more

This is a family owned business that treats new clients like family. My daughter purchased a home 1 year ago. She paid for a home inspection, however, the inspection did not reveal a water issue in the Basement, nor did the disclosure. Everyone that we spoke with wanted to start by ripping up our entire basement. A.J. Waterproofing had a different approach. From my initial contact by phone, I knew this was the company for the job. Caroline suggested a little investigation before suggesting any work to our home. This indicated to me that their first concern was the customer and their needs. A.J. suggested what should be done and the following week , did the work. His workman and himself were professional, courteous, and completed the job beautifully in a sigle afternnon. He installed 2 galvanized window wells , graded the landscaping, secured the window well covers and added mulch and stone to the entire area. They cleaned the entire area and hauled away all the debris. In short , they did a beautiful job. Last, night, we were NOT continually running down to our finished basement to vacuum up water. Within minutes of my sump pump emergency, I was able to connect with Caroline to discuss the situation. Immediately responsive by telephone, she was very kind and patient as I described to her the issues that I was experiencing with the sump pump. As she sought to quickly schedule me, she also provided honest real-time guidance regarding how to safely turn-off the sump pump. Afterward, her son (Anthony!) called me to review the situation with me as well. By FaceTime, he described to me how to enter the crawl space, find the sump pump, and lift the float switch; this immediately resolved the problem. He also remained on the telephone with me as I navigated into and out of the dark crawl space, which I very much appreciated. Most other companies would have sent me straight to voicemail, scheduled me much later, and/or charged me an initial consultation fee. But not A.J. In a very short conversation he proceeds to insult me and tell me he can tell I cannot afford his incredible service. Today is October 20, 2020. Please do not hire this company! Today was a nightmare! This was the worst experience ever! I took off of work for nothing. I hired AJ Waterproofing after they came to my home and provided me with an estimate. It took a little over two months to schedule an appointment. The men that came to my home were not the men that I hired. I believe they were sub-contractors. I don't even know if they were licensed and insured! The men that came to my home did not agree with what was written on the estimate. In fact, they were unaware of the estimate. As a result, they called the owner of the company. The owner and the men exchanged words and were in a heated argument. The call was on speaker. The owner told one of the guys to ,"Shut the Fuck up and get the Damn job done". They were arguing back and forth. I did not ask for this drama. The men that came to my home said that they weren't going to start the work because I was quoted the wrong price. I showed them a copy of the estimate. I spoke with the owner to rectify the confusion. The owner's tone was aggressive. He was unprofessional, biligerant, and irate! He was so disrespectful towards me! He cursed and yelled at me. After this experience, I am left mentally exhausted and overwhelmed. This company is the worst company ever! We recently used AJ's Waterproofing Services to fix our water issues in our basement and we couldn't be happier with the job him and his team did. It was very apparent from our consultation with him that he is the ultimate professional. He spent over an hour and a half with us explaining the issues at hand in our basement and the different options we could go with to remedy the situation. I called AJ at AJ Waterproofing to have them come take a look at a little closet in my basement that goes under my outside steps to the front door. The steps were laced over the original marble steps and water is leaking in during rain events. He asked me to FaceTime him and let him take a look at the closet and the steps outside. after looking at the outside and the closet he felt that my issue is the lack of caulking between my steps and front wall as well as the lack of caulking between my steps and those of my neighbors. He suggest we start there. I do not know of anyone who would offer help and suggest the repair that was something they did not need to be hired for. I appreciate AJ's help and honesty. I will definitely be calling him back if we have other waterproofing needs in the future.
