Do not... I repeat DO NOT bring your dog here to see Dr. Rooney or Dr. Sexton!! Our dog has been having issues with eating/passing normal stool since December 2023. We brought him in to see Dr. Sexton in December to discuss why he has a decreased appetite and why he isn't drinking water. Dr. Sexton advised us to change his food and see what happens. During this visit she did also take blood work and said there was nothing abnormal about it. Our dog started to eat normally again for about a month and all the sudden came to a hard stop and wouldn't touch the new food we gave him and wouldn't go near his water bowl. Growing very concerned we took him back in to see Dr. Rooney and this man did nothing but laugh in my face and told me I was overreacting and needed to wait it out.. even though I told him our dog hadn't passed any normal amount of stool in a WEEK and hasn't been drinking nearly enough water! We started him on the rice and chicken diet as directed and came up with no change. So we decided to bring him to a new vet... and within minutes of us being there they found a lymph node the size of a golf ball that Dr. Rooney had ruled out as "he's just being sensitive when I touch here- don't mind him yelping in pain" And they also found that he has pancreatitis. The new vet then showed me the blood work that was taken back in December from this vet office and it shows that he was HIGHLY LIKELY FOR PANCREATITIS THERE TOO!! Dr. Rooney AND Dr. Sexton wrote out that he was showing signs of it but then turned around and told us there was nothing abnormal about the bloodwork. So this entire time we could have been treating him for something that's been making him uncomfortable and affecting his entire system. We were never once told that this was occurring or even to just be aware of it. Never told to change up his diet due to this or that this could become an issue in the future. I am beyond upset and hope both Drs have their license taken away. I hope you never laugh in another persons face and tell them they are overreacting when they tell you something is wrong with their pet. Will never be back to this horrible clinic again. read more

Have been a customer of this animal hospital with multiple dogs for many years, However I do feel this is the last. Took our 10yr old pug to be put to sleep this past Monday and to say it was a horrible unprofessional experience is an understatement. We show up for our 10.30am appointment to be told 'your late as your appointment was 10am'. As we were waiting the Vet tech gave our dog a sedative to relax him and for whatever apparent reason forgot to return to us. The animal was left unattended by the vet tech for a period of 15 minutes or more which ended in the poor little pug suffocating to death . To say this is a sad and emotional experience is one thing but the unprofessional conduct of the vet tech in question was poor at best and this ended up quite a traumatic experience overall. The silver lining here is the Veterinarian remained professional throughout the whole botched euthanasia experience and was excellent at consoling the family members present during this nightmare. Unfortunately standards have slipped at this animal hospital and we will no longer continue to bring our pets here . read more

I had just moved to the Chicago area from CA, and my little Bichon was not well, and so I tried to find a vet that could get us in. When I called Burr Ridge, the receptionist took the information on my dogs symptoms. I was told that one of the vets had a small window of time, and asked if i could make it. I got my Bichon in, and boy was I impressed. The vet, Dr Palmer, listened to the problems, throughly checked out my dog, then prescribed the course of action. I expected the appointment to be rushed, since it was last minute, boy was I wrong... he did not rush, and gave us quality time. He clearly explained what I needed to do. Asked what questions I had. On top, i got a call the next day asking how my dog was doing. I was impressed! I have been with Burr Ridge Vet ever since! For the past 15 years the quality of service, the caring of staff and vets have always been top notch. When my little Bichon at the age of 16; had to be put down, their caring and empathy was top rate. I even received a written note from our vet expressing his condolences. When I got a Bishpoo, of course I chose Burr Ridge as my Vet. I have been a dog lover my whole life. I have owned large dogs like a Giant Schnauzer to small dogs. I have been to lots of vets over the years. Never have I experienced the level of service, and caring of the vets as I have experienced with Burr Ridge Vets. This place is amazing. I came in with my babygirl Phyllis today and asked Dr.Rooney about 50 questions all written down about what was normal for dogs and if those things are out of the ordinary and if he had any reconmendations for some behaviors and food! He was so knowledgeable and kind answering each question without hurrying me. That was the best part; you know when you go to a drivethrough and they repeatedly ask you, 'anything else?' and there is about 20 other things you wanted to order but you now have anxiety and don't want to continue so you say yes? ( Don't lie, you know what Im talking about) THIS DIDNT HAPPEN AT ALL! I swear this doctor answered 50 questions about chihuahuas and dogs in general for me while smiling! This place will always have my business and trust because my dog isnt just a dog, she is my daughter and a part of our family. We also had a great experidnce with their vet tech (I think her name was Katie) and she was amazing and so sweet. I am glad she will be there for my dogs next vaccine while they do curbside because of Covid and I would have never thought I would be able to feel okay handing her off to someone else. We had been long-standing clients of BRVC back when they were on Rt. 83. Dr. Greiner who usually saw us and our bulldogs went out of his for us and our pups. Unfortunately he married and moved to Michigan. We liked Dr. Palmer but he chastised me for calling him at home once with an urgent question. It's not something we make a practice of doing. There was another vet who liked to drink unfortunately. We brought in my late brother's Dachshund with bad cough and wheezing to inquire about boarding her while out of town and were told she would be fine. The next morning our phone rang telling us our dog Skittles was dead. The latest involves our bulldog Winston. He was seen on 1/13 for a wellness exam and injections. He stopped eating two days later and his left should developed a large and tender mass. Thinking it might be an abscess or hematoma I called the office hoping to speak with Palmer but he was out last week. Another vet prescribed an antibiotic and we were told if it was sore he'd be limping. That same day he walked but grew progressively worse until he couldnt walk anymore. The office staff were very helpful and I always thought the best part of the practice. I developed flu-like symptoms on the 19th and was weak. My wife and I couldnt lift him to put him in car so we needed to wait until Saturday when we could get help. Saturday he passed at 7:30AM. We are done. Poor way to treat loyal clients. read more

I always have good experience with the staff, technicians and doctors have been good kind and helpful. Whenever I have concern or question about my dog I was always treated and my dogs very warmly and feels like a family. But today I have the worst experience with a Lady named Cathy who works in the front desk, She is the most rudest and have the don't care attitude about my dog. I asked her if I can out Neosporin on my dog boo boo and I was told right in my face 'DONT ASK ME" ask the Technicians here. I will still bring my dogs there and every time I go there I just keep my fingers cross that I do not have to deal with her. When I decided to buy my furry friend five years ago, I had no clue where to take him, but luckily one of my friends was in veterinary school at the time and recommended Burr Ridge. Thank goodness! The staff there is so nice and friendly. You can tell they genuinely care about animals and are not just "doing their job." As soon as my dog and I walk in they greet us, tell my dog he is "so cute," pet him, and give him lots of attention. The wait is never long and they have treats on hand for the pets. Once, when my dog woke up with a bad ear infection (to the point where he wouldn't stop shaking his head back and forth), I took off work, called as soon as they opened, they understood I had taken off work and got us in right away! I have been taking my dog Payton to BRVC since she was attacked by a group of dogs at daycare and was not properly administered to by another clinic in Darien. As we were not current patients, I walked in when they opened at 8 am on a Monday and begged them to help my dog who was very obviously in pain and needing attention. Without a second thought, they moved us to a room and Dr.Palmer met with me and discussed treatment options. He called me during the procedure to let me know how things were progressing. That was a year and a half ago, and I have been seeing them ever since. The day after Thanksgiving we had the routine yearly checkup. At which time they noticed she had swollen glands and spleen. Lymphoma was the diagnosis and I worked with Dr. Rooney discussing options and treatment plan. Unfortunately Payton had a very aggressive cancer and went downhill quickly. Last Friday, I had to bring her in to euthanize her. This time we saw Dr Johnson....the compassion I felt the minute I walked in was incredible. We were treated with love, respect, integrity and honesty. They made the most difficult thing I've ever had to do a little less painful. And the staff emulates those same qualities. My partner and I have been using Burr Ridge Veterinary for our dog for the last five and a half years. I absolutely love the staff and vets who work here. Always top notch service. As nervous as our dog gets when we take him to the vet... he always seems to be comforted here by the lovely caring staff. My most recent experience here has led to this review though. My partner's grandmother also brings her dog to Burr Ridge. Very suddenly, and without any warning, her dog passed away at home. When it was first discovered - while everyone was trying to figure out what to do - I called Burr Ridge to describe the situation and make sure we have done everything we could for our beloved family pet. The nurse on the phone was more than helpful and even consoling and gentle with me on the phone. She walked me through what I need to do next and made sure they would be ready for us when we brought her in. Upon bringing the dog to the office wrapped in a blanket, they guided us to a room to the left of the main counter. Nurses assisted us by holding open doors, offering water, tissues or anything they could do for us. The room was a family 'mourning' room.... Something very similar to what you would find in any funeral home. Dimly lit, a large carpet in the middle of the room and seating against the walls... plenty of tissue boxes located in arms reach. A nurse came in and assessed the dog... offered necropsy service, but also helped ease grandma with trying to best answer the questions of "why". Of all the times I have been to this facility over the years, I didn't realize this room existed. While it was comforting at the time, I do hope I don't have to utilize that room again. Words really cannot express how impressed I am with Burr Ridge Veterinary. They have always provided excellent care for my dog. I've always recommended to others. However, this experience has further solidified my feelings for this facility... absolutely excellent! Thank you! read more

We have been going to Burr Ridge Vet for years, but now I want to specifically give kudos to Dr. Rooney who just helped us through challenging situation with our dog - Our dog, Bentley, had significant issues with his eye which resulted in it needing to be removed. Dr. Rooney was with us from the start of this journey and up until his follow-up visit post-surgery. Dr. Rooney was incredibly kind, caring, and patient with Bentley, my husband, and myself. In addition to his incredible demeanor in the office, he also took the time to call both my husband and I to allow us to express concerns and answer any questions we had. (More information I added here than on Facebook!) Just went to bring Orlie for his yearly wellness exam! I've been wanting to write a review of this but I keep forgetting! So here it is! Used to go to the one one Frontage Road a long time ago when we only had a rabbit before because it was literally a minute away from our house. We went to the Blum Animal Hospital previously in Chicago for Orlie, but decided it was way too far to go back and forth. When BRVC opened their new location up, we decided to go back and bring our dog here and never turned back! Dare I say we should have went here i the first place than to the one in Chicago! (Yes they're that good, even BETTER!) Awesome, caring, and passionate doctors! Dr. Palmer was with him since day one and we always try to get him whenever Orlie comes in for appointments. He is amazing! Very meticulous with his examinations and informative about any topic and concern that I have with Orlie and will stay with you until all your questions are answered. Also, Orlie loves Dr.Palmer and is very attentive with him and always gives him kisses. He never liked the other vets he has had (Orlie can be a "bratty princess"), and that says something about Dr. Palmer and the rest of the staff here at the clinic. We have also met Dr. Sexton and Dr. Rooney and they are very good as well and very nice to Orlie. Basically any doctor you will see is very good at what they do and will do all they can for your "kiddies", as Dr. Palmer says. The caring staff is amazing as well, they do all they can to make everything comfortable. They will try and get you in if you need to schedule an appointment last minute. The technicians are amazing and helpful as well! You have the option from them to also lead you to a room if your dog doesn't get along well with other dogs and will bring everything to you once you are done with your appointment so you can leave right after to avoid the other dogs that're around. They also have a room where the examination platform moves down for the ones that are hard to carry or are older. Let's not forget the Parents of pets! They have a Keurig Stand for the ones that would like coffee and they have boards all around to update you on important information you need to know, events, lost dogs, etc. They also had an Open House recently which I wish I was able to go to to see a Behind the Scenes tour of the facility, but hopefully they'll have another one again in the Future :). I had one of the worst experiences in my life. I took my dog in for the first time to burr ridge animal hospital to see what was going on with her, she hasn't peed in 2 day and was having trouble walking. When I took her there Dr. Johnson did blood work on her and tested her leg, which she than told me my dog was paralyzed and would never walk again. Also according to the blood work that she had what they call Evan syndrome and that she was in very bad shape and even with all the money in the world she couldn't be saved. The doctor said that she was in pain and that we should euthanize her tonight. We decided against it and said that we will take her home. She than released urine from her bladder and said it was black and that her organs were shutting down ( of course it was black she has blood in her urine and hasn't peed in 2 days) she said that she only had 6-12 hours to live, that if we take her home she will be in a bad way. We still want to take our chance and take her home, she than said ok I will give her pain medicine and a steroid it may last her 8 hours but you should bring her back first thing in the morning to have her euthanize. We took her home extremely upset with the results and the fact that the vet was so persistent on euthanizing her. I knew in my heart she wasn't done, so the next morning I took her to our original vet in summit where the vet said that she doesn't need to be euthanized. 4 days later and with the proper medication and the knowledge of an amazing vet in summit my dog is WALKING and still alive and on the road to recovery. No thanks to Dr. Johnson who was so quick on decided to end my dogs life. I felt I need to out my story out there so that everyone knows and that you should always get a second opinion and not be quick to make a huge decision like this. Also be careful when choosing a vet for your animals and not chose Burr ridge animal hospital because if I would of listen my dog would be dead. Thanks to her extremely wrong diagnosis she cause my 3 children and my family a lot of pain amd suffering thinking we were losing our dog. read more

They are also really reasonable with prices! In the past at a different vet office I was charged astronomical prices but Burr Ridge is fair! Dr Rooney was great and the staff was also very friendly and helpful. They were very wonderful with my older cat and respected my desire to stay with her at all times. BUT they apparently have a glitch in their labwork system in that if a sample is sitting outside too long before it's picked up, the sample is corrupted. Which sadly, is what happened to me. Which is bad enough that they want to re-take the sample and torture my poor kitty with another vet visit, but they also expect me to PAY AGAIN for something that was not my issue! And also regarding the paying...the charges were quite a bit higher than I expected from what I was told on the phone...e.g. I was told to bring a poop sample, but not told that it would cost me $24. read more

I've been coming here for probably ten years. I started coming here mainly because Dr. Greiner was the brother of my husband's friend. He has since retired. Burr Ridge has taken care of all three of our dogs over the years. Two of our large boys went over the rainbow bridge two years ago, and Dr Adkessen and Kelly were so kind and caring as we said goodbye to our fur babies. They have a separate grieving room for this purpose with its own exit which is considerate to the families going through this difficult time. Today, Dr. Palmer took care of my basenji for his annual checkup, and he was thorough with covering everything and answering my questions. I liked him. The clinic is very clean and nicely appointed. Their prices are on the high side, though. I feel they have gone up in price since they built their new bigger facility. Today's visit with heartworm preventative and blood work was $369!! Keep in mind that didn't include any vaccinations. Ouch! I am getting a $40 rebate on the preventative so my bill will be $329 once that is received. read more

My parents found BRVC within the past couple years. Dr. Johnson and the staff are nothing short of wonderful. Unfortunately, we had to put our Vinnie down yesterday. This was my mom and my first experience putting down a pet. Although I am extremely sad, I have been bragging all day about how great they were. We have had a bit of a rough month (he had a mass on his spleen, come to find out he was covered internally with cancer) and have been visiting multiple times because of it. Dr. Johnson has been patient with all our questions and putting us at ease that we did everything we could have done. Yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life, and I am so glad we had BRVC helping us through. We had brought Vinnie in knowing what was going to happen.. he hadn't eaten all day and barley got up. As we were telling Dr. Johnson that, one of the staff members, Donna, blew my mind with a simple act of kindness. She said she overheard us that Vinnie hadn't eaten all day, and brought him in a piece of chocolate cake (she said everyone should be able to try chocolate once in their life) He gobbled it up so she gave him a second piece. I was amazed at their love that they gave him without even knowing him a long time. The staff is truly amazing. We have another dog that will be visiting soon as well, and I will have comfort knowing that he is in great hands. Thank you, BRVC staff for comforting us in such a hard time. I have been taking various pets here for over 25 years. I started with Dr Velders and evolved to Drs Greiner and Rooney. They have all been caring, attentive and knowledgable. Dr Rooney knows my current pets well and is always spot on with diagnoses. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The prices can be a bit high at times- depending upon the service performed, but over the years they've helped me deal with procedures and surgeries. We have been going to BRVC for about 20 years. While I have never written a review, please do not think that means we do not think they are the most caring, knowledgable staff EVER! We have brough everything from our three cats, three dogs, hamsters and a hedgehog. When you have pets, especially a child's pet, we think it's important to educate them on the proper care for the animal. BRVC does and excellent job of educating the humans too! Most of our visits have been well-being, but I can say that for those visits that required great amounts of animal medical knowledge and a level of care associated with a family member who has a serious medical need, BRVC has that and more. When had to put down one of our dogs Dr. Palmer took our entire family's needs into consideration. he cried right along with us, giving our Sandy the kind of love typically recevied from 'her pack'. I cannot say enough about this place. From the front desk, to the techs and nurses to the doctors. Compassionate, empathetic, informative. We are from out of town and brought our pup who had lymphoma in as he had taken a turn downward. We wanted him to see family this week as he always loved it up here. Dr. Palmer saw us first and was very nice, informative and had excellent bedside manner. Our guy was given meds and we were to come back today. While in, today, we were seen by Dr. Johnson. She was equally as compassionate and informative and really laid the cards on the table for us. We could not have our guy suffer anymore and had to euthanize. They made the absolute best of a horrible situation. They provided us with a quiet room, gave our pup delicious treats and let us spend as much time with him before and after the process.
