I can't believe I haven't reviewed P&P yet! We found P&P after moving to IL in 2019, and I was very nervous about finding another vet we loved. We really appreciated our vets in ABQ & Indy, so I knew my standards would be high. -- After trying two other local vets, I stumbled across the best one: P&P! I have two, rescued, lab mixes and we come here for everything from routine checkups, recurring allergy injections, and any worrisome symptoms. We see Dr. Brandes (I joke that the "peasant dogs" see Dr. Brandes and the working dogs see Dr. Newman, but I'm not certain that's how they split it. ) And Dr. Brandes is just fantastic! He is great with the dogs, asks good questions, and really spends time with us every-time we are there. Additionally one of my dogs sadly tore her ACL, and I prepared a list of surgeons for Dr. Brandes to review and recommend, and he did just that. I truly appreciated that he took the time to calm my crazy dog mom nerves. Sometimes there is a wait for appointments and to pay, but it's only because this office is so busy and everyone wants the best! Called when our dog, their patient was sick. No return call. They are excellent vets, but not good customer service. Tried to get appt. at noon, to busy to see our sick dog. We were told to go to emergency vet service. They phone diagnosed our dog and were correct, which makes me trust them. I only wish they would make time for us in an emergency situation. They are good vets and great when you have an appt. for shots etc. But right now my dog is sick. They are open but will not make room in their schedule to see him. They have ¹referred me to an emergency vet that will cost more than retired people can afford. I am so very sad that this is how they are treating us. I don't think I have ever been at a Vet that is so caring. The staff is very into dogs and cats. Their facility is so clean and does not smell like any animal at all. They have two doggie and kitty ambulances to do work in the field for certain types of animals. I know that they take care of the canines for local Police Departments. I needed to get my dogs teeth cleaned and they require an initial visit. My dog was happy and the tech treated him very well. He liked the staff and they loved him. I would recommend this Vet for any service. Also, I have some friends that have large breed dogs who say that this vet is the best. They have fantastic staff and you get a personal phone call with instructions and reminders. read more

They honestly care about your pets, are diligent and thorough with their care while also being aware that tests and procedures are costly. They are up front about the best case/worse case scenario and don't push expensive procedures that aren't needed. I was referred to them by a friend about 3 years ago after our previous vet wanted to do an extreme oral surgery for thousands of dollars o moth of my cats- only 3 years old at the time! I took my cats to Dr. Brandes for a second opinion and he gave me a much more conservative care plan that actually matched their needs without putting them through undue stress and running up the charges! With his care, both my cats received top level treatment in line with their needs and it was half of the cost. Neither have had anymore oral problems beyond one needing a tooth pulled at his last checkup. Everyone I've referred has also loved them! You can be confident taking your pets to Partners and Paws. After calling to order another prescription of my dogs flea and tick medication I was denied by a rude employee claiming that we did not have a doctor/patient relationship because I chose to have my dogs vaccines done elsewhere this past year. This has been my dogs vet since he was 3 months old (he is now almost 3 years old) so it's safe to say we had a doctor/patient relationship and never had a problem emailing over records of vaccines if they were done somewhere else to prove he was current and heathy. However after this encounter we will be finding another facility to care for our dog. Would not have minded bringing him in if that's what was needed even during these hard times of a pandemic but the rudeness of the employee definitely sent us away. read more

The dog was overdue for her shots so we made an appointment after reading so many positive reviews. P&P did not disappoint! I felt welcome and so did the pooch from the moment we walked in. Honestly- one of the best things was that the front desk had leash clips so I could complete paperwork without being dragged to the door. Huge. Love that. Brandy is never comfortable at the vet- but I think the amount of delicious cookies she received made it all OK. Our tech was gentle with her and the Dr. Was calm and efficient. This is the story of Scooter, my dog. And how a life, in canine, human and every other form, can change in a moment. And how we can adapt and survive. And how Drs. Brandeis and Newman - and the entire staff at Partners and Paws - jumped in to help Scooter survive. Scooter is a six-year-old mixed breed rescue dog. He's got some lab in him for sure, but I think he's some sort of sighthound, too, because if he sees a squirrel 1/4 mile away, he wants to go chase it. And when he gets near that squirrel, Scooter doesn't want to kill it. Nope. He'd rather run alongside it and have another critter to run with. That's Scooter. Everyone is his friend. Like people, I think every dog has a purpose that they are called to fulfill in life. And for some dogs, just as for some people, it may take longer to discover that purpose than for other dogs. For Scooter, he discovered his purpose about 18 months ago when my fiancé, Stacey D. - a runner's runner - decided to see how Scooter would do on one of her daily runs. Well, Scooter took to that first run like melted butter takes to a brownie mix. He integrated right into Stacey's pace, ran in a perfectly straight line alongside her and added a level of fun and companionship that both of them never expected. A bond was formed. Memories made. Love created. A love that is amazing to see. And a dog's purpose was borne. It took about two days for Scooter to figure out Stacey's running routine and to insist that he run with her by barking and woofing at her when she was donning her running clothes and by picking up his leash and bringing it to her so she had little doubt that he intended to run with her. For Stacey, she adapted her running routine to account for Scooter. On days where she wasn't running, she would tell him the night before that they were not running the next day. Believe it or not, Scooter seemed to figure out which days were "running days" and which ones were not. It was an amazing transformation to see Scooter connect with Stacey and build his entire day around the possibility of running together. And when they ran, he was focused. He'd see squirrels, but he would not pull on the harness to chase them; rather, he'd run right alongside Stacey and stay on task. He'd see people, and he'd stay on the sidewalk in a straight line with Stacey. He'd see other dogs, and while he might glance at them, he'd stay on task. He had his job, and his job was to run with Stacey. Over time, Scooter built up his running stamina, being able to go as many as seven miles without any issues whatsoever. When Stacey purchased a special running harness and shock absorbing leash for Scooter, it seemed to make the runs even more enjoyable for them both. So on the day before Thanksgiving when Scooter opted to not run when loose in a park by my house, it was concerning. Never before had he not run when allowed to be off leash at a park. On Thanksgiving morning, again Scooter decided to not run. And when he didn't eat dinner Thanksgiving evening - not even a piece of turkey breast - we knew something was wrong with him. When Scooter threw up six or seven times during the night, we were deeply concerned. The day after Thanksgiving, I called Partners and Paws and told them what was happening. They created space in their day for a 10:30 AM appointment. Scooter and I went in to see Dr. Tim Brandeis. After an examination, Dr. Tim x-rayed Scooter's chest and stomach. Thankfully, everything appeared normal on the x-ray. But there was significant bruising that had appeared on Scooter's stomach and under his fur. Tim instantly diagnosed that Scooter had something called IMT - Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia - which is a serious disease where a dog's immune system attacks its blood platelets and destroys them. It can be life-threatening, and for Scooter, his life was under attack by IMT. Little did we know, but Scooter had begun to bleed internally. Blood was pooling in his stomach. The sickness Scooter endured Thanksgiving night was blood being discharged from his body. Dr. Tim kept Scooter at Partners and Paws the rest of the day for observation. He ordered blood tests, which confirmed low blood platelet count. Canines normally have about 500,000 platelets in their blood. Scooter had 25,000 on the day after Thanksgiving. By Sunday, his blood platelet count would bottom out at 2,000. Through a series of aggressive treatments, Scooter little by little made small gains. At one point, we transferred Scooter to a 24-hour animal hospital so he could receive IV fluids. Then we transferred him back to Partners and Paws, where Dr. Tim continued to bring Scooter home with him at night to watch him. Scooter is fine now. He's healthy and beginning to resume his running routine. The staff at Partners and Paws saved his life. Everyone there pitched in and cared for him and help Scooter recover. They comforted him when he was ill, cleaned him when he got sick, and watched over him. They are great! read more

We found P&P when our big dog Bruce suffered a mystery illness a few months back which had us certain we were going to lose one of our best friends. While I have no doubts our old vet tried as hard as they could to help, their high price services for no answer, no commitment on treatment, and limited staffing ability lead us to Partners and Paws. It wound up being the best thing we ever did. Dr. Newman was not only committed to a cause, she acted quickly, without any concern for her own time, giving Bruce every opportunity to survive. I'm absolutely certain she saved his life with her experience and decisiveness. What made it so much easier was watching how Bruce responded to Dr. Newman when she squatted down next to him. I knew he was in good hands. Since then, we've been through ticks, hematomas, skunks, and the occasional checkup. Every visit is the same, excited, welcoming staff ready to take care of your best friend like he/she were their own. Choosing P&P is a decision I guarantee you will not regret. read more

Dr B saved my dogs life no question. She has a rare condition that stumped everyone else but Dr. Brandes figured it out because he wouldnt give up on her. She was dangerously dehydrated and coudnt concentrate her urine. He was so dedicated to keeping my 3 year old italian greyhound alive that he took her home with him so he could monitor her 24/7. Dr. Brandes and Dr. Newman have both been excellent healthcare providers for my mastiff, who recently passed away from cancer. They responded to a lot of late night emails, texts, etc. when I did not know how to proceed with the complex care of a dog struggling with osteosarcoma. The team at Partners and Paws really helped me make his last few months on earth as comfortable and pain free as possible. And when it was time to let go - Dr. Brandes came to our home on a Sunday during the day and let my boy cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. I have really been blown away with the care that my puppy has received from Partners And Paws. My little guy was having an emergency and when I called the office they told me to bring him in and he was seen right away. They needed to keep him for the afternoon to try to figure out what was going on and Dr. Brandis was great about keeping me informed, he called me often to let me know what was going on and what would be our next steps. In the end, he even brought my puppy home with him to monitor him overnight. I knew that my little guy was getting the best care possible and I was so grateful that dr.
