I'm sure the doctors are great, but the receptionists are the most rude, smug individuals we have ever come across at an office. Their receptionist didn't explain their procedure on seeing twins accurately and when we showed up we were told a completely different situation than explained on the phone, Marta was SO RUDE. Didn't care to hear our situation, acted like she had no time to do her actual job. For them to explain procedures wrong and act like I'm a rude patient for rightfully being confused isn't right. We've heard rural areas don't have great medical services and sadly, between the pediatrician double vaccinating our child & these rude individuals, they weren't wrong! read more

Don't come here if you're on MediCal/Partnership. Front office reps were nice, but they will push you out of there ASAP. It felt like a ER waiting room honestly and if you have a serious situation requiring a specialist they will "refer" you to someone else without confirming they're covered by your insurance. I was in the process of establishing service at a local dentist when I started having discomfort associated with my back molar. My new dental office, like so many other dental offices, was fully booked and couldn't get me in for another month. They don't see new patients for a single issue until the patient has undergone the full new patient check-up. Luckily, I heard that Burre Center Dental Office (associated with Open Door) can see people for a single issue on an emergency basis. The dentists at the Burre Center are also fully booked and not taking new patients. They were willing to try to fit me in, but I had to be willing to come in an wait to be seen, depending on when there was an opening in one of the dentists' schedules. I was willing (and able) to wait as long as it would take. I found the staff friendly and efficient. Dr. Carter Wright was also friendly and thorough. He told me what he saw on the X-ray and recommended a course of action that including me making an appointment with the specialist that had done the root canal on that tooth. I am so relieved that the folks at Burre were willing to see me even though I wasn't their patient and they already have very full schedules. read more

Waste of time and that guy needs an attitude readjustment, there are multiple people here complaining about him specifically. They made me an appointment, but when I went in for a bite adjustment on a crown, and was sitting in the chair the dentist told me that they weren't taking new patients. He wouldn't adjust the crown, saying that it didn't need it. He also mentioned that I had a cavity but he wouldn't fill it. I don't know what they charged my insurance for but I should've been told on the phone that they weren't taking new patients. I had to drive over an hour to get there. read more

One of my bottom molars decided it randomly wanted to murder me in my sleep (or lack thereof due to the horrendous nerve pain) & so I found myself calling Burre and getting a next-day standby appointment. Dr. Wright took a peek and told me what was going on, and what options would help me. After my decision, I made another emergency standby appointment, & (got called in right away upon showing up early to bid farewell to that tooth)! Dr. Ho was a total sweetheart! He worked with my pain management, was patient, and I could tell he really cared about his patients. The DH/Nurse was a total sweetheart too and even let me squeeze her hand. This was a miracle especially for this area, where most if not all places are booked to the maximum or not taking any new patients or emergencies due to Covid. Here's to a good nights rest. I would give a zero or neg number if not for the dental assistant! Dr. Wright is the worst medical person i have even come in contact with! he said awful things to me because I didn't make it to an appointment at another dental office. I had Covid and had to cancel and now my tooth is hurting so bad I called Burre and hoped they would help me, all he did was xray (which hurt) felt my jaw and pushed my tooth so bad it sent pain down my legs. he then told me I was to blame because I didn't go the the other appointment and he couldn't help me he gave me paper work to call and find someone to take me... no antibiotics.. said oh you can't take ibuprofen so good luck with Tylenol. I have a disability which makes it to where I can not take any nsaids. He was so mean to me he made me cry by the things he said to me. he was absolutely zero help, tried to say he was the one who did a temporary filling last time, I never saw the man, thank god, before yesterday. he was in the "room" for maybe 5 minutes and that's a huuuugggeee stretch! he didn't even care that he was making me cry he kept going. his assistant even came back and said how sorry she was and that he shouldn't have spoke to me that way, she was amazing and deserves to work for a better dentist , the front desk was also very kind. they are the only reason that I am giving any stars! the fact that this man is the DDS is absolutely insane! Someone needs to show this man how to be a descent human and a lesson in Covid, patient care, and maybe in invisible illness. I am not saying that i didnt nothing wrong, I should have made the appt and I know this, it wasn't that I didn't want it fixed, it was Covid, single mom, just started a new job. and a very debilitating illness. Dental in Humboldt is so sad, none of the local dentists take medication-cal insurance except for Burre Dental, but they are so impacted that they can't except new patients. But when I got pregnant My provider (open door) referred me to Burre for a free cleaning. During the appointment the dentist told me I had a cavity and a second more superficial cavity, sometimes they do fillings while pregnant but she didn't recommend it bc I was 6 months pregnant at the time, she then filled me in on their policy that they will see the pregnant patients up to 60 days postpartum, and she would be happy to fix them For me then. Like most women having their first baby I wasn't expecting it to go the way it did, and I totally spaced calling to make the appointment until the very end of the 2 months, but when I called the dentist was unfortunately out of town and wasn't going to be back for a week. I was starting to think I wasn't going to be able to have the fillings done since it was now passed the allotted time. But I was the squeaky wheel and I had to call a second time and advocate for myself once the dentist came back. sure enough she didn't turn me away and has fixed every last cavity and left me with a healthy mouth. I've had a pleasant experience with them every time I've been seen, and I feel very fortunate that they have helped me get the care that I needed. read more

When we were on vacation in July, my son developed a severe tooth ache and needed to be seen right away. Not only did Burre Dental Center agree to see him the same day that we called, they also completely took care of his problem and got him out of pain. What especially impressed me about this place, was how nice the staff and doctors were to my son, thus making his unexpected visit a lot more comfortable then we expected. Years ago, I was a teenager on Medi-Cal and my experiences at Burre were terrible, leaving me with a fear of dentists. 1. The majority of the work is done by people who seem pretty new in the dental field (interns, perhaps?) In multiple cases, this resulted in me getting less than stellar care - I went in for a few sealants, and my next appointment a month later, they had worn off, due to incorrectly applying them the first time. 2. Even if you make an appointment, it still could be a few hour wait. A few times they canceled an appointment I had made, then couldn't fit me in for almost a year later - then the dentists proceeded to yell at me for going so long without a cleaning. 3. My teeth are crooked. As a teenager I was INCREDIBLY self-conscious about it (still am, in fact). One of the dentists (interns?) straight up made fun of me for it. You can imagine the effect this has on a teenager with low self esteem. 4. They all work rather slow. I get wanting to insure that the work is getting done correctly, but sitting here with a clamp holding my mouth open for over an hour while the person keeps disappearing isn't acceptable. read more

Went in for an emergency exam this morning and was seen in less than 15 minutes. Spoke with a dental assistant and had X-rays ordered. Dr. Wright advised me of my options, and I decided to have the procedure done then and there. Glad I did! Shortly after my slight anxiety attack was over, I was given a topical anesthetic and then waited roughly 3 minutes for the dentist to sit down and begin. A little bit of Novocaine and we were off! In less than 8 minutes tops, the deed (extraction of erupted and fractured upper wisdom tooth) was done and over. No pain, no kidding!!! Dr. Wright was professional and courteous, and most importantly, gentle. Kudos to all the friendly staff as well! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I have made an official complaint to the dental board of CA. My 5 year old son received dental work here that was not up to par which resulted in the tooth later cracking. They took 3 weeks to get him back in, in which time an infection set in. We went to the ER first for the infection, after being on the antibiotics for 4 days they tried to pull the tooth. My 5 year old son was very nervous and scared and refused to open his mouth. At this point the head dentist said oh well, we can leave it for a year or 2 and then try again. Needless to say we walked out and found a new dentist. My sons infection has gotten so bad he is still on antibiotics and had another failed attempt to pull it. He sat up and screamed through being drugged and gassed at the new dentist the infection is that deep and that bad. We try again soon. Please go somewhere else. I know it's expensive but please don't let them hurt your children. read more

Went in with a tooth infection on an emergency visit because I had a tooth that was infected and causing migraines for over a week. Dentist said I had an infection but refused to give me antibiotics. I didn't even want the ibuprofen, just something to help me get rid of my infection. It was a complete waste of time and money. Stay far far away from this place. Worst experience. Would not recommend. Dental abscess. Called ahead and made an urgent "appointment". Waited three hours and all they did was take an xray and advised to return for another stand by appointment that did not guarantee we would be seen by the dentist. No pain management, no antibiotics, no care instructions. Went to Dr. Di Bari in Redway shortly afterwards and they were welcoming and took care of his pain in less than 20 minutes and had us scheduled for an extraction as well as abx. read more

I had an Emergancy appt. and the staff was so kind and sweet. The wait was so short I was in and out within an hour. The Dental assistant Rosanne was very nice and knew exactly what she was Doing. As for Dr. Daniels.. I am in complete aw, she was so caring and showed interest and compassion on her patient. This clinic is awful. While the receptionists and dental assistants are wonderful, the head oral surgeon who presides over them is arrogant and classist. I would not recommend the clinic for medi-cal patients, as you are likely to be treated with prejudice, or turned away for an arbitrary reason and not treated at all, but I know there isn't much choice. The head oral surgeon speaks to you as if you are a peasant who must grovel. If you are on medi-cal, proceed with caution and prepare to bite your tongue, as there are currently no other dental practices in Humboldt that accept new medi-cal patients, and it's too easy to get banned from Burre. If you can afford to co-pay elsewhere, I'd recommend it. If you can't, be cautious. read more

I was 6 months pregnant and in the worst tooth pain of my life. It was excruciating. After shocking, icing, and then tapping on my hurt tooth to make sure I knew which one hurt, Dr. Wright (the head dentist) literally told me that I was risking the life of my unborn child by getting a root canal, and then callously added that I would have to choose! I left in tears and in pain. It was the worst dental experience ever. I then went straight to Dr. Foy who simply gave me a shot of novocain and did the root canal, relieving my pain. read more

My experience here was excellent. I had a crown come off mid day on a Friday, this was the only office I could find that was willing to fit me in to get the crown cemented back on. The office was clean, the staff was professional and kind, and the dentist that saw me was fast and thorough. This office provides a valuable service to the community. I wish that they had room to take me on as a client but the nurse explained that they take on children and disabled persons before new adult clients. Despite being open 6 days a week they are booked months in advance and unable to take new clients. I'm grateful that there is a place to get care when the private practices in the area are too busy to help (they seem to be able to make all the money they need in a 3 or 4 day work week). read more

If you have medi-cal, this is your only option in northern Humboldt. That is a shame. My son has been completely traumatized by this dental clinic. The dentist was rude and condescending. I believe he under numbed my child and when he said he was in the pain the dentist told him he wasn't. He threatened my child while he was in pain and threatened me that he would kick me out of the exam room if my son didn't "behave." I was forced to end the procedure as my son was in hysterics and the doctor was being awful to both of us. This is a terrible place and needs a serious overhaul. People do not deserve to be treated the way this dental clinic treated us. I will be figuring out how to pay out of pocket from now on as I will not be treated like a second class citizen at this place. read more

After reading all these horrible reviews I was a little scared of going there. Since I had a very good all-round experience, I would like to share it. It seems like people are more likely to write reviews when they had negative experiences. So from my first call at the clinic to the cavity/filling that got worked on, they did a great job. The staff was very kind and nice and the doctor (Dr. Moreno) was very kind and patient, explained every step of what she was doing and gave me space to ask questions or mention any concerns. Not only were they professional they were charismatic and showed empathy toward the patient which is a rarity theses days. Rude and condescending dentists that are just trying to get you out of there. I waited over an hour for a 5-minute exam with a jerk of a dentist whose only words to me were "you should have had x procedure done! Now you have a cavity!", completely ignoring the fact I hadn't had a cleaning in 2+ years, and it was my first cavity in my adult teeth. They did a good job with the filling, at least! Another dentist told me I should have my wisdom teeth out because I was experiencing mild pain with them. Didn't look at my x-rays, and told me my orthodontist was wrong when he said I had enough room! I switched dentists, and new dentist agreed with my ortho after actually *looking* at my x-rays and teeth. The hygienist was a pretty nice guy, though. I think he may be the only one in the entire office! In short, if you absolute *can't* afford to go anywhere else, then they'll do a serviceable job. You need to assert yourself, and don't let them brush you off! read more

I took my 4 year old son to Burre this morning for a filling. He has one single small cavity and for any adult this would be a normal quick percedure but my son is 4 and needed a little bit more patience for his first time getting a filling. We get into the room and our dentist and dental assistant are wonderful. I believe the dentists name is Ramira or something similar. My son of course cries when he receives the shot, but quickly recovers when she begins drilling the cavity out. A couple times, the dentist had to stop and let him calm down so she could continue, which of course made the procedure longer than normal. She is done with the first drill and moving onto another, slower moving, bigger looking drill when Dr. Wright comes in. It's 11:45 now and they've been working on this tooth for appx 15-20 minutes. It must have been close to Dr. Wright's lunch time because he has zero patience from the jump. He asks the woman dentist where she's at and takes over. He doesn't introduce himself to my son. He just takes over, tells him to open up and finishes drilling. At some point my son cries again because he is uncomfortable. Not wiggling, not screaming, just softly crying. Dr. Wright asks him rudely why he is crying and checks his mouth around the tooth for sensation with a tool. There is none. He tells my son he has no reason to cry and continues. My son is still crying. He gives him no chance to calm down like the other amazing dentist who was doing a perfectly fine job did. He just keeps on going telling my son things like "Well if there was an actual reason you were crying" and "I'm not even doing anything" during the moments when he took a break and my son had 10 seconds to try and get calm. He finishes the drilling and puts a TEMPORARY filling in my sons tooth. He tells me that there's no reason he should be crying (I kindly tell him it's because he is 4, uncomfortable and scared) and that I have 2 options, I can bring him back in a month to try again for the permanent filling or take him to a pediatric dentist where they can sedate him. Yes he used those exact words. By the time I get up to the front desk to make an appointment, he had changed his mind (I'm assuming because I had the audacity to speak reason to him) and cut my option to bring him back to complete the filling. He also now refuses to see either of my children, which is perfectly fine with me. I wouldn't want him to have to be inconvenienced by any more soft crying. I'm so upset by my experience today. It would have taken 15 minutes longer if he had just been patient, but nope. I have never had a worse experience in any medical facility, ever. This man should never take another patient under 8 years old, and no one who has poor emotional regulation. So dissapointed. I hope he got his lunch break in time. read more

If you are on medi-cal, you can pretty much expect the same experience as you would with any other location. For my first time there, I waited almost 2 hours until I was finally seen. The assistant was pretty nice, as was my dentist. Fast foward to the end of the service... I was given what it appeared to be an extremely outdated list of oral surgeons that I should contact right away for an appointment. The mere 5 asterisks indicated that they accept medi-cal, and for the 30 other non-asterisk numbers, don't. And to keep my options open even further, the closest locations that accept medi-cal was in Redding or San Francisco.. great. So I went home and right away tried contacting those locations. I really wanted to avoid the Western Dental locations so I narrowed it down to U.S.F and U.O.P. Turns out neither location accept medi-cal at all! And the U.S.F number that they've provided, was actually "Colombia Hotel". So that left me with no other choice but Western Dental. I called back Burre Dental hoping they would provide me with an updated number, but all I got was "That's all we got on file, sorry." With that said, I went on and did my own research; Google! If you beforehand signed your life onto the registration papers and marked OK for your consent for the "interns" to work on you, you can expect a hell of a lag. This was my second appointment in for a filling. This new intern and assistant was to work on me. Right from the moment he introduced himself, I sensed fear and anxiety. And it showed when he was t o t a l l y flustered. Now this was the only thing that truly irked my soul, this dude had me hang my mouth open with the jaws of death (I really don't know what the thing is called lol) for an hour! Yess I counted every excruciating minute. I've probably heard "be right back" a thousand times while he had just left me hanging.. literally. I found the assistant to be more understanding and patient as she constantly checked up on me. So then my dentist finally comes to my rescue and starts the operation, with the intern just observing. And for the remainder, he had the intern finish. I came in at 8:30, came out around 12:00, super sore and tired as can be. Overall the place is decent especially for those who are on medi-cal, but for those who can afford it, I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

The worst Dentistry in America. They totally screwed me this time. My doctor (Rahimi) quit. I was then told that I was on a list and would be called when she was replaced. As expected, a year later, no phone call. I called numerous times over the last year to see if I could get in too. This weekend, my tooth was so painful, I decided to try again. When I called, they said Dr. Moreno took Dr. Rahimi's patients. Of course, nobody called to let me know. Turns out I cannot see the Dr until 2017. All booked until then. Pathetic!!! So, here I am. Emergency appointment. May sit here all day waiting to see a doctor. To make it worse, they won't do any work today, only x-rays. They also made me sign paperwork agreeing that I understand that no medicine will be given at emergency appointments. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9/12/16 I saw DR. WRIGHT today. He is a very heartless and arrogant man. He called me a liar several times and absolutely didn't want to help. This guy is PATHETIC!. I went into Burre Dental Center with searing pain, having never been there I was excited to give my community walk in dental clinic a try. I was in the most physical pain I have ever been in in my life however when I was given the privilege of being examined by the dentists, they still were not able to tell me what was wrong with my teeth nor did they once hint at what the possible problem could be. I then made an appointment with another doctor who was able to instantly identify me needing a root canal as soon as I could. I have trouble believing that the dentists at the Burre Dental Center were not able to identify someone needing a procedure as simple as a root canal. I would have been OK with them recommending me to another Dentist because of how obviously I needed something done, however they were not able to give me one single word of advice and in turn wasted some of the little money that we so dearly need. The dentist at this center are neither knowledgeable in their practice or caring about their patients. read more

I visited this clinic for severe tooth pain. First visit is 140 bucks for x-rays. For comparison a local dentist charged me 90 bucks for X-rays 4 weeks later. Going back to the burre dental center, i took half day off if work to sit in the office hours on end to have zero results. Went back again same thing l, few hours to unfortunately be told my blood pressure is too high to have the tooth pulled. Visited my personal Dr. to "sign off" on my blood pressure. Went back again took hours off of work. Was never seen by a Dr. finally got in with a real local dentist. 90 bucks for x-rays and immediately told me and referred me to a oral surgeon for the tooth extraction. WHY WASN'T I IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO AN ORAL SURGEON? I ended up paying burre dental clinic $220 for xrays basically. NOT A REPUTABLE ORGANIZATION. read more

This is apparently the only dental office in Humboldt County that accepts Medi-Cal and accepts new patients, but they've blacklisted my child for an entire year just because she didn't know how to hold her tongue down when she was three. I called them yesterday to make an appointment for tooth-cleaning and an x-ray to help lower the cost of having a very cavity treated at another pediatric dentist who will actually fill the hole. The receptionist was very friendly until I told her my little girl's name, at which point she turned sour. "It looks like she was here in August but we couldn't treat her because she was uncooperative and we referred you to a pediatric dentist. Did You GO?!" I explained our situation and told her that we just needed the x-rays and tooth cleaning so that we wouldn't have to pay an estimated $500 out of pocket (that's the figure the other dentist gave us), but she refused saying "at this point, it would be better to just have the pediatric dentist do all the work." My daughter was NOT UNCOOPERATIVE, she was very good that day EIGHT MONTHS AGO. It's just that she couldn't understand the dentist's instructions because both he and the assistant were jabbering at her all at once, without a moment's breath in between. "Move your tongue." MOVE YOUR TONGUE!" "She's not moving her tongue." Without even giving it a proper try, the dentist dropped his tools back on the tray and said, "She's just not cooperating. You should go to a pediatric dentist." They did not "refer" us to a pediatric dentist, they simply told us we should go to one. They do not even know how to talk to children in a gentle manner. We are not going there again if we can at all help it. read more

Took my 2 year old daughter here for her first dental check up, and I will NEVER go back. Naturally, my girl was a little afraid at first, but she warmed up rather quickly. However, as soon as she was ready to let them clean her teeth, they had already referred me to another dental office who does not accept medi-cal. The dentist was extremely rude and didn't even look at her teeth during this visit. The assistants were very kind, but I left VERY unhappy. This is the only local dentist that takes Medi-Cal, so if you have kids with Medi-Cal and they need the dentist, you either pay out of pocket somewhere else, or go here. It's, unfortunately, a very difficult choice. My daughter needed a tiny filling when she was three, but they wouldn't do it because they were afraid she was too young. They told me not to come back till a year had passed. I was very angry and worried, but I followed their advice. Came back a year later, and got scolded for not taking her in every six months. Thanks, Burre. By then, the cavity was much larger and there was another cavity that had been not quite a cavity a year before. My daughter wasn't very cooperative, but the assistants kept talking over me (two assistants and me talking all at once right in my daughter's face) while I tried to slowly and calmly explain to her what she needed to do. The staff just kept speaking to her quickly and she was getting confused and reticent. They told us to come back in several months. This happened again and again. My daughter is now five. Today was the final straw and very enlightening. At her appointment today, they told me to leave the room for x-rays. I stopped in the bathroom instead of going straight to the waiting room, and I'm glad I did. My daughter started screaming bloody murder, and I ran to her to find a very impatient and angry assistant scolding her, while my daughter cried and said, "It hurts, it hurts." The assistant countered back like a fifth grader on the playground, that it didn't hurt and all the other kids didn't cry. She was sarcastic and rude. I went to my daughter to console her, and the nurse started scolding me, too. ***But here is the part I REALLY want you to take in mind when considering Burre. My daughter kept crying while the assistant was trying to talk to me, so the assistant grabbed my daughter's arm and shook it while getting right in my five year old's face and telling her to be quiet. She did this while I was RIGHT THERE. What would she have been doing if she was alone with my daughter?*** Despite wanting to tear her hands off my daughter, I calmly spoke with the assistant and did not once do anything to deserve the treatment the assistant was trying to bait me into. She realized she wasn't going to get a rise out of me, and left the room. I expect any decent adult to treat children with kindness and patience, and also to behave with professionalism in the workplace. This assistant's behavior was appalling. If you can avoid taking your children here, do. If not, I'd advise not leaving small children alone. read more
