I love this place! Nobody enjoys the dentist but I've had nothing but good experiences here. The space is clean and well organized. The front desk staff is really kind and patient. The dental staff are very helpful and take time to express concerns, answer questions, and make sure that every step is thoroughly explained. Dr. Barsanti is very fast and efficient. I've had about 6-7 appointments now and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes (I've even gotten in early!). Dental work is extremely expensive no matter where you go and insurance in general isn't empathetic but the staff here have worked with me to build a plan thats in my budget and are happy to answer any questions about coverage. read more

I did not like the way dr barsanti treated her assistant while working on me; it made me uncomfortable. I got the impression that she is running a "dental mill" wherein she runs people through with as many services as she can get them to agree to, so as to finance a big operation with all the equipment to do just about any dental procedure. After examining me, she presented a plan of care she recommended that would cost $10,000. Then her office has a service where they bug you to schedule visits. I felt like her employees were all intimidated by her and forced to deal with clients in ways they would rather not have to, like putting pressure on them. I would not want to work there! I think if she had been less cold and business-like and more "people friendly" I might not have run the other way quickly read more

After moving here to Humboldt County we were on the lookout for a good dentist office. After calling around we discovered it's going to be a challenge to get an appointment at any dentist office in the area. Luckily The Barsanti Dental Group didn't take that long to be seen. I had new insurance for dental during my wait for a filling to be done. So I had an existing appt. When I went to the front desk on my appt date I asked if she could check to see if my new insurances was active, she stated "yes" as the numbers were different from my previous insurance card. Great I said, two fillings later and I'm walking out for check out.. that will be 400 dollars pls.. What! Your insurance doesn't kick in until next week SORRY but that's the way the cookie crumbles .. no working with me, no taking some responsibility for their mistake (could have rescheduled, would have been the kind thing to do)! Not professional.. worked out a payment plan, but then reconsider- do I really want to work with that kind of business that won't compromise on a mistake on their front office ?? Like others, Dr. Barsanti did prescribe me a lot of work at my first visit. Much more than I have ever needed in my life. This made me nervous that she might be prescribing work that I didn't need. However, they use an intra oral camera while doing your exam. They were able to point out the problem areas, and I was able to see cavities, cracked tooth, etc for myself. Where some dentists would want to wait to see if things get worse before doing work, Dr. Barsanti's approach is to do the work as soon as it is needed to prevent the problem from getting worse (i.e., fill a small, easy cavity now so it does not eat away more at your teeth over the next 6+ months until your next appointment). Using a high-quality intra oral camera means they can catch smaller issues that would not be seen through a naked-eye exam. I do think she has her preferred methods for dealing with issues, and therefore gives you those recommendations only, rather than a range of treatment options. If you have reservations about something she prescribes, just ask her. Despite her being busy, I have never felt rushed while she was in the room. She answered all of my questions fully and patiently. Both the Dr and the assistants and hygienists are very knowledgeable and genuinely want to educate people on proper dental hygiene and preventative care. The office is very organized and there is great communication between the assistants and Dr. Barsanti. I have had a bit of frustration with billing - the visits, at times, have ended up costing a couple hundred more dollars than they said it would be when I walked in (i.e., Dr. Barsanti worked on one more tooth surface than was in the plan so it will be another $200). That kind of thing is not very transparent. Generally, it does seem like they try to be transparent about billing, giving printouts of estimated treatment costs when they are prescribed. Overall, I like how this office runs, my mouth looks better walking out than it did walking in, and I agree with her ideology of taking care of issues early. read more

I've been to roughly 20 dentists over my 51 years -- from New York to California -- and Dr. Barsanti and her team are hands-down the best I've ever had. Their care is thorough, gentle, and genuinely considerate of both patient comfort and financial concerns. They take the time to explain options and work with what you can afford. I notice some complaints about cost, but many people don't realize that dental pricing isn't set solely by the provider. Insurance companies, regulations, and overhead all play a role. Quality dental work is expensive, and much of the cost comes from waiting until problems become severe rather than prioritizing preventative care. That's not the practice's fault. If you're looking for a dental team in Humboldt County that will guide you through better oral health as painlessly and professionally as possible, Barsanti Dental Group is absolutely one of the best -- if not the best -- options available. read more

Over the past few years my experience with Dr. Barsanti has never been good. It's hard to trust her guidance, because she presents one expensive option of what you "need" to do and threatens complete loss of treatment as an alternative. There is a lack of options and information provided. Staff is nice, but that only goes so far. I don't feel I've been treated well as patient or person. Read some of the mixed reviews and; honestly, I'm shocked. Visiting this dental office for the first time was definitely the most positive dental experience I've ever had. Danielle was my hygienist and she was incredibly knowledgable, gentle and just overall pleasant. Dr. Barsanti was very informative, clear and concise with next steps for treatment. I feel very confident in placing my dental health in her obviously well educated and experienced care. I am absolutely impressed that with the limited options we have for care in our county we have something of this high caliber! I cannot recommend this Group more highly! read more

Everything could improve. Poor billing practices. Hardly answer the phone. They don't effectively explain procedures beforehand, and they will charge for everything. They cite system failures about billing constantly to get payment even when your account has a credit to cover it. They seemed great at first intake but as an ongoing patient I was very disappointed with both the office management and the dentist. I left after being bullied, shamed and with an actual lip injury. They may be very high tech and have the greatest tools at their disposal, but their interest in humanity lacks luster. Would not recommend. read more

Horrible. She ground down a healthy tooth so it would fit a new crown, rather than grind the crown. Now I have a literal nub for a tooth, but hey, that's convenient when she offers to place a new crown on that tooth next time. I had the worst dental pain of my life after leaving that office because of this, and now over a month later, it is still really sensitive to hot and cold and throbs after eating even moderately chilled drinks. Wrote a detailed email explaining the situation to Barsanti and got no response back from her. Yeah, wonder why there is no waiting list for this office? I'm NEVER coming back, that's for sure. I could go on. After 6 visits to the office, 3 of them "periodontal treatments", the crown, a cleaning and checkup, I still have yet to get the small cavity filled I originally came in for 6 months ago. Now I have a nice crown, but the tooth above it is a nub. Out of pocket thousands of dollars, in more pain then when I came in! Unfortunately the bad reviews are spot on. I'll just share one of my many bad experiences. I'm now at a different dentist. I got a bad crown and my tooth underneath decayed away after one year. It cost me $2,000 just to remove the crown. Apparently the crowns they make are pretty cheap but it was also put on poorly. I had to get a root canal to hold my new crown since there was such little tooth left. It's been expensive and time consuming to undo the damage. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Barsanti for over 9 years. I've endured her business plan and over charging for every appointment. The final straw was the $12 fee for every appointment added due to Covid. Not covered by insurance. This was over the top in my opinion. I can get 2, N95 masks, a pair of rubber gloves and some hand sanitizer for under 5 bucks. Retail. Seems like they should be buying in bulk and getting these safety items for much less. And passing that savings to their customers. I am simply tired of being ripped off. So grateful there are other local dentists who offer their services at fair prices. Just switched to Dr Taylor. read more

These people are unscrupulous crooks. Every visit we get charged much more than we should. For example, had to pay over $200 for preventative cleanings for my 2 children, and this is with insurance benefits. And this was after office staff informed us the visit would be covered without copays. These crooks take advantage of our rural area that lacks dental providers and price gauges their patients because they know we have nowhere else to go. You either have to pay up or drive 3 hours to be seen by honest providers. Refund the money we paid today, and I'll take this review down. But I doubt you care. read more

For your own well being, please pay attention to all of the negative reviews. I wish zero stars were an option. This dentist office is a scam and they employ deceptive business practices. I went for a cleaning in August, and after the briefest exam was told I needed over three thousand dollars of dental services including a periodontal three-phase cleaning service, cavities filled, and a crown. This didn't make any sense to me as I hadn't been having issues with my teeth. When I asked questions about why I needed a crown, how the dentist could tell I had a cavity with such a limited exam, my questions were dismissed and it was just reiterated that I "needed" all of this work. I was given two bizarre presentations, one each by the dental assistant and one by the dentist, about gum disease. They used the same flipboard prop and rehearsed presentation with scare tactic language like "thankfully now you are only in phase 1 of gum disease, but if you don't act immediately you could get to stage 3 that eats away at bone!" Of course, when I informed the dentist I was moving in a few weeks and would have to follow up with a dentist in my new city, he immediately stopped giving me the time of day and the entire mood shifted to disinterest in my supposed dental plight. I was no longer a cash cow to them. I'm happy to report that yesterday I got a dental cleaning at a new dentist office in my new city, where I showed them the $3k treatment plan and all the x-rays I had received at Barsanti. The dentist was shocked and said I didn't need any of that treatment plan; all I needed was a simple cleaning. It was so nice to feel validated, but I felt compelled to come back on Yelp and inform any future patients of Barsanti to STEER CLEAR. read more

When he called the only dentist in our network to book an appointment he was told that they were not available until October 2020. I then called hoping for a different outcome when speaking with the office manager and was told the same thing. In fact she was quite rude and told me to check elsewhere. Dr. Trish Barsanti has been our dentist since she took over for her father in law. We used to go to him starting in 1995. We have always appreciated her professionalism and integrity. Her vision of providing quality care along with education has served us well. I understand why we need to care for our teeth. Her office is up to date and her staff is very knowledgeable. Recently she had to make a heart wrenching decision to let her " preferred provider " status with Aetna dental go. The audacity of insurance providers dictating what care " is allowed" or they " approve" is ridiculous. Dr. Barsanti graduated at the top of her class. SHE wants to provide the dental care we deserve. We don't have Aetna but our insurance ( Ameratus) has network status with them so she becomes an unrestricted provider for us via insurance. I'm sure that means they will cover a little less. Being retired we are careful about spending. But we appreciate Dr. Barsanti's commitment to us. We will continue to have our teeth cleaned and cared for by her. I think I appreciate her more now than ever. 5 stars across the board. I'm writing this because I had bad tooth pain. I was able to get in with emergency status in 24 hours. She did the X-ray. My front tooth needs root canal ( I grind my teeth and even with guard this happens) The Endodontist here in Humboldt has a 4 month wait. She referred me to a Santa Rosa office that will see me in 13 days for diagnosis and treatment. I appreciate Dr. Trish Barsanti because she is an excellent dentist and wonderful person. read more

Not good but what options are there in Humboldt? Dr. Barsanti sat down next to me after my cleaning appointment and lectured me about my dental care. She said we talked about this in the past and discussed the expensive options to address her concerns - it was literally the first time I ever met her. The other dentist saw me one other time. I appreciate her "professional insight" but how could she give the guidance with a 15 second glance at my record. I must say, while her staff was friendly, I would never go back. After a 1 -2 minute consult by the dentist,(including supposedly having time to look at complete set of x-rays), sold me a bill of goods I did not need, e.g. four new crowns, six plus new fillings (replacements), etc.. Six months later, I moved from the area and the new dentist gave me a totally clean bill of health after that exam, with no additional fillings or crowns needed. read more

My experience here was awful. I came in for cavity fillings. If you are considering becoming a patient here please don't. I will be finding another dentist, probably outside of Humboldt County. First of all, she messed up the injections and spilt the numbing agent twice, once down my throat causing me to choke and get up from the chair to spit and get the sour solution out of my mouth. After this she proceeded to leave the room for at least 8 minutes, in a huff, without apologizing or talking to me about it at all and only coming back after the hygienist went to go find her. She then messed up on the other side causing more of it to spill down and into my cheek, again without any apologizing or explanation. The reinserting of the needle made the inside of my mouth bruised and painful at the injection site when open/closing, talking, eating, or really anything at all hours after I left the office. Then when I asked to do the rest of my fillings another day because I wasn't comfortable she said "hmmm no I have these on reserve" and shoved a needle back into my mouth, forcing me continue with treatment even though I was visibly very uncomfortable with tears streaming down my face the entire time. On top of this, her statement about them being on reserve doesn't make sense as in the beginning of the appointment she explained that we could reschedule if she didn't get to all of them. Her entire demeanor throughout is completely rude and uncalled for. She is more worried about lecturing and her time than making sure her patients are comfortable and safe. It really felt like a horror movie and I have never experienced anything like this anywhere. When I told my aunt, a dental hygienist, the horror story she was absolutely appalled and advised me to write this review and find a new dentist ASAP. read more

Make no mistake, this is a business first, dental care is secondary. First I had to deal with a rigid office manager who brought me into her office like a salesperson to go over everything wrong with many of my teeth in a mechanical voice. I started going to this office when the original Dr. Barsanti owned it. My daughter was his Office Manager's Assistant, his wife the Manager, and he was so proud and excited about his upcoming retirement and having his recently graduated daughter-in-law taking over the practice. I was happy for him; he was a great guy and dentist! When Trisha took over, it was obvious she was "out with the old, in with the new" as she redecorated the office, changed policies, and staff. From the start, she was typical Big City Dentist material, not a local, small town, homegrown, Arcata type. Without much surprise, within 6 mo., via form letter, I was told she was "...cutting down on her clientele..." and I needed to find a new dentist for them to send my records to. Apparently, she did not wish to continue to support the former Dr.'s clients for some reason- afraid to be compared, maybe? Ha! There was no comparison! read more

Very pushy with their business practices. Always feel like they were constantly trying to upsell me for extra Services then. When I expressed a disagreement they would take a firm line and say that I needed to do more expensive treatments or else they would refuse to treat me. It felt like a one-sided conversation and was not supportive at all. Seems like they're all about the money and using the fact that there is a lack of dentists in this area to push people around. Dr barsanti was my Dentist in Humboldt for a good 4 years. She filled a cavity in between the two back teeth and in that process she cracked my tooth. She was very rough to say the least, worst experience ever. Then I had to get a crown placed for the cracked tooth and had to pay a lot of money for it! Now two years later at my new dentist she tells me the crown is not flush to the other tooth so I'm getting plaque build up and will need to eventually be replaced cause I could get a cavity easily and loose the tooth. I'm so annoyed that Dr barsanti used me as a guinea pig and doesn't know her shit. read more

I've had an appointment to establish care for over a year. They have changed my appointment time five or more times via email, never asking me if it was ok. They said to me they did it to get me in earlier but that makes no sense as they have just moved around the same day. They also messed up with my husbands appointment, which he missed because of their scheduling practices. Then they are rude about it. I waited for over a year for this appointment and did my husband. In the meantime their reviews have plummeted. Save yourself the time and energy and go someplace else. read more

Then trying to reschedule the front desk girl told me they had no availability until 4 months out with a tone as if it's my fault that we are rescheduling. I switched dentists so my insurance would pay as a covered provider. While I appreciated the initial intake and cleaning and professionalism, I was unaware that I had such bad teeth after seeing another dentist for years. My teeth are not the best, and I just strive for a functional bite and reasonable smile. Suddenly, I had a "plan" for fixing my teeth, then, I was not informed when they were no longer a preferred provider under my insurance. Instead, I get sent additional bills unaware that these services weren't covered from the get-go. With such a great staff up front, I'd hoped they were tracking the insurance better, and were able to communicate this better, but with yet another $500 bill from them in the mail, I'm done here. I expect up front, transparent cost disclosures, and with a full fleet of desk folks, I'd hope they could tell me. Every time I walk in the door it's another $1,500 and, now I've learned, after the third appt, another $500 surprise bill a month later. Done here. Went in with no issues and came out at least $5,000 poorer for the effort of switching to who I thought was a preferred provider. I miss my old dentist.....This might be the place for you if you have great teeth and just require cleanings. Shop around, else you might have more bad teeth than you thought read more

At first I was very impressed with the Barsanti dental practice. The equipment is very high tech, the hygienists are good, and Barsanti is young and knowledgeable. However, the longer my husband and I were patients there, the more the negatives came to the forefront. As is the case for everyone I know who has gone here--and many who have reviewed already--my husband and I both were subject to the three-visit periodontal treatment. As we hadn't been to a dentist in a couple years (ours retired and it was hard to find someone accepting new patients), we accepted it as necessary. However, the long list of treatment needed never seemed to get shorter. Fillings were replaced, crowns installed.... At one point I was sent to Ukiah for a consultation for a root canal the provider there said was unnecessary. All of this came at a high price. We had dental insurance, but not at the level needed to be a patient in this office. Whenever we would schedule a procedure, the office manager would give us a cost estimate, as well as the amount that insurance was expected to pay. Supposedly this was based on checking with our actual insurance, but the estimated amount covered most often turned out to be half what the insurance actually paid. And unlike other dentists, where the covered amount reset the price, we had to make up the difference. This quickly became thousands of dollars out of pocket. The financial end of things is handled by the office manager, who uses guilt and acts as the "bad cop" in contrast to the pleasant, good-cop providers. Said office manager told me that if I really cared about my health, I would pay what was required; I was scolded for postponing appointments until insurance renewal dates; and I was told to simply put charges on my credit card, as if that would magically solve the problem. We struggled with a change in insurance and other insurer issues, and on one visit the office manager agreed that, "Dental insurance is pretty much a waste of money and does no good." When I provided a new dental card, charges continued to be billed to the old insurance. I had to request resubmission multiple times (I never received an EOB from my insurer until my final request 8 months after the work was done, when bills began to have collections warnings on them even though my insurance had not responded.) The final straw, however, was when Barsanti herself entered the shaming game. After a 8-month absence, I returned and was immediately back on the 3-cleaning plan. I knew I would have to pay for visits 2 and 3 but went along with it anyway. (Mom emphasized the importance of dental care from the time we were 3-years-old.) On the 3rd visit, the hygienist told me they had forgotten to take x-rays on schedule and we would do them that day. As I had recently lost my insurance, I said I could not afford them and did not want them. I was told she would have to "see if [she] could complete [my] cleaning without them." Somehow this was allowed. However, when Barsanti came in for the final check, she made a lot of unhappy noises. She prodded my gums and bemoaned their bleeding (an issue I have had my entire life, despite good brushing and daily flossing). She said that one tooth had a bit of a shadow, "but I can't really tell what's happening without the x-ray you didn't get." Finally, before leaving, she told the hygienist, "Have her floss for you, so you can see if she's doing it right." I'm a 50-year old woman, not a 5-year-old child! (And, yes, the hygienist confirmed I was flossing correct, after I did 2 teeth, and she appeared to have the sense to be embarrassed.) I have never been a person who was afraid of or dreaded the dentist. By my final visits to the Barsanti Group, though, I dreaded visiting and left feeling terrible--not through dental pain, but from being treated as unworthy, with suggestions that my dental habits were slovenly. The business office's pressure tactics are more akin to a used-car lot than a medical practice. I really wanted this high-tech practice with a young dentist to be my provider for years to come. However, I will be looking for a dentist who cares about his/her patients more than the quality of their insurance or the size of their wallets. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Barsanti today and it went really well. I guess, for going to the dentist, I actually enjoy going to this office. Selena always takes care of my insurance questions so I don't have to deal with that. She is really organized, so I don't feel stressed out about the cost and what my insurance will cover. I saw Dr. Barsanti for two fillings. She gave me a shot, and I didn't even feel it at all! She showed me pictures of my cavities before and after -- my teeth literally looked brand new. She spend some extra time showing me how to floss my teeth with a special tool that she hopes will stop new cavities. I have noticed how all of the staff like to spend a lot of time helping to answer my questions and making be feel really welcome and important. Her assistant Krysti is really friendly and bubbly and I always appreciate this because it helps when I am nervous about getting dental work done. They also play really good music in the office which makes time go by faster. I recommend Dr. Barsanti's office to others because they really care about you and will make you feel at home. read more
