The 'for sale' sign at this place scares me, and here's why. We tried Burrito King for the first time today after stumbling across it on Yelp. Why is it always these hole-in-the-wall type places that have the most amazing food? This place has AMAZING food and the couple who run it were very nice. There were three of us and the amount of food we received for such a reasonable price was definitely surprising. We tried the barbacoa burrito, Chicano taco, chicken enchilada, a tomale, and their rice & beans of course. The burrito was massive and, maybe this is part of the reason for the 'for sale' sign, was stuffed heartily with the barbacoa. It's something we happily would have paid $8.75 for and it was only $7.25. The barbacoa meat was juicy and very flavourful and the hot salsa they served with it was really tasty (thought it could have been hotter). The chicken enchilada had a fantastic red sauce and the chicken was every bit as good as the barbacoa. The big winner though, the item that we'll be going back for, was the Chicano taco w/steak. This was easily the best taco any of us have had in Ohio. If you go to Burrito King you must try the spicy steak Chicano taco. I really hope this place doesn't close or that if they sell then their food doesn't change, because we look forward to going back a lot or ordering takeaway. read more

The location is questionable. Although it does seem to be a real Hispanic community around. There's a Hispanic bakery down the street as well and I believe a specialty grocery if I remember correctly. The food is unquestionably delicious. It's very good and very authentic American Mexican food. The gigantic flour burrito is obviously an American thing but if you want more authentic traditional Mexican they certainly have several of those choices as well. The corn tortilla tacos are incredible. On top of the food being genuinely very delicious the prices are very low. If these people wanted to open a large, fancy restaurant in a nicer place they could charge triple and it still be popular. I don't think they would ever do that though because it's got that kind of local community pillar vibe. Serious dive in a sketchy part of town, or so it would appear at night. I almost didn't stop when I saw what I was dealing with, but decided to give it a go based on the many excellent Yelp reviews. In hindsight, that was the right call. If this place wasn't a donut shop at some point, I'll eat my sombrero. Extremely small place with no public restroom inside. The multi-placard menu is pinned to the wall that divides the front counter from the kitchen. Think any non-descript Chinese takee outee with numbered combo platters, only yi, er, san = uno, dos, tres. There are photos included to guide you through the ordering process. If you get stuck anywhere along the way, just point and say "one of those" or "what's that?" There's just enough English spoken here to get you out of the door with a smile on your soon-to-be-stuffed face. I had the #4, which is a wet burrito platter. No need to build an ark. Only one animal (cow or chicken) is included and "wet" simply means "with salsa". The burrito itself was ample in size and quite delicious. Also came with refried beans and rice. There are also foil wrapped "dry" burritos, which are more in line with what you might find at Chipotle. Still assembled out of sight in the kitchen, but of comparable quality, and even more bang for your buck, as far as quantity goes. Check out the three available sizes, as demonstrated on the wall by the register. The largest is "bigger than a baby's arm", to quote Happy Harry in "Pump Up the Volume", and could easily feed two. The senorita tending register was friendly and helpful. Over twenty years worth of authentic Mexican grub, according to her small talk history lesson. To assert that seating is limited would be understating it. I would go back without hesitation, especially during the day. On the hygienic tip, if you plan on dining in, I would suggest bringing hand sanitizer or baby wipes, due to their lack of an accessible sink. Would've eked out a 4th star, if not for Pepsi products. read more

Finally found legit tacos in Dayton. Ordered chicken tacos Mexican style (cilantro, onion and lemon), one crunchy and one soft (both about the same preference wise); Chicano style (cheese and sour cream) tacos with barbacoa and chicken and fluffy tacos, which sounds dirty but is actually like a Taco Bell Gordita (gasp!) only with real ingredients. Get it. It's delicious. Small warning, this place is a total dive with limited indoor seating but they do have high chairs so bring yo wife and bring yo kids down to Burrito King. read more

I just moved back home to Dayton from Cleveland, TN where there is a plethora of authentic taco places. That being said ... I have some high taco standards. One thing to know is that Burrito King has two types of tacos: lettuce and cheese & onion and cilantro. If you don't specify -- they might choose for you. Although both soft tacos come on delicious corn tortillas with good quality meat (I like chicken), the onion and cilantro is MUCH more flavorful with a more authentic taste. It is a lot more similar to the tacos I had in Cleveland. The cheese on the other option is authentic white Mexican cheese though -- not the type of shredded taco cheese you get at the normal grocery. * Tip: Ask for limes and squeeze them over your tacos. Adds a lot more delicious flavor! Overall -- not my favorite tacos ever, but pretty delicious. I would definitely give it a try if you're looking for authentic Hispanic food in Dayton. read more

Since my original review, my husband and I have been back to Burrito King a handful of times. While my husband has been over the moon about each meal, I have been indifferent. Until today. Today I tried the the #3 platter, which is three taquitos (filled with your choice of meat), topped with guacamole and sour cream, and a side of beans as well as a side of rice. All that was only $5.99 by the way! I got the shredded chicken taquitos and EVERYTHING was delicious! Dare I say perhaps the best Mexican I've ever had. The chicken was seasoned perfect, the taquitos were just the right amount of crispy, and the rice was superb!! As always the staff is very polite and we love that the food is made to order. I found Burrito King on my Yelp app while searching for a place to get an early breakfast. Goodness, I am glad I found it! I do not live close, but I will make a point to stop in anytime I am in the area. The service was fast and extremely friendly. The restaurant was quaint, clean, and quiet. The menu is nice, with a lot of choices. I had the chorizo breakfast burrito with hot salsa on the side; it was amazing! This is a small restaurant, but not too small to be comfortable. I would recommend it to any of my friends. There are plenty of delicious-sounding menu items to choose from. I am already looking forward to my trip back to this area tomorrow. Being from the Cincinnati area, we do not go there as often as we would like. We have been there 3 times and we are never disappointed. The quality and quantity of the food are excellent. I just visited the Burrito King for breakfast and I tried the Chorizo Burrito and I am a fan. What can I say, the food was fresh and delicious and I learned the everything is made to order, for i.e, the Chorizo meat for my Burrito did not get cooked until the order went in and I love that. I also order salsa and chips and the chips were fried to order and I had a choice of large or small chips for the same price. =) I am looking forward to trying more things off the menu. read more

Hands down, the BEST Mexican restaurant in Dayton! If you want authentic Mexican food with bold delicious flavor, then you need to check this place out! Doesn't look like much from the outside. And the inside has very minimum seating. But it's the food here that's most important. Owners Adrianna & José are super nice and friendly. With only a 5 minute drive from home we are in there quite often, and have a friendship with them. Fast friendly service, excellent portions and delicious flavor. My yelp app indicates this place is closed. It's not. I just went there and the food is delish. I had the wet burrito. $8 but it was giant with beans and rice on the side. Been months since I've last been here since it's a bit off the beaten path. A small, elderly dive, easy to pass by when you are looking for it. The neighborhood is very old but don't judge. Very small inside and they have a drive-thru but we sat at the counter a couple weeks ago which made it easy to speak to the nice young man who served us as well as one of the owners...her cook husband popped his head out a few times...just really nice people. Ok, the food. I have never gotten past the breakfast burrito to try anything else but the chorizo burrito is the best I've had since we lived in San Antonio in the 80's!! It's only 30 minutes round trip for us but if we lived closer, we would be going there more often...Sure beats the cookie-clutter main stream "Mexican" chains. BK is to me, authentic Tex-Mex...so good. These small Mom & Pop's are struggling but if you can, please use cash so they don't have to pay the credit card fees...that's just me suggesting. read more
