I guess it had to happen eventually. This past week, I ordered my usual scaled-down burrito with just rice, beans, and guacamole. Even though I skipped all the other items that would have been included with a regular burrito, not only did they charge me full price, but they tacked on almost $3 for guacamole, bringing my total to around $11. On top of that, they charged me almost $3 for a cup to put a few ounces of club soda in. THEN, they flashed that "How much do you want to tip?" screen in front of me and I knew I was done with this place. I'm giving it three stars because the food is still fantastic, if you can afford it - and if you don't mind supplementing the salary that the restaurant owner should rightfully be paying the employees. read more

I'm surprised by the vastly differing opinions in the reviews-seems like you either love it or hate it. I thought it was decent tho. I got the Mexican pizza with no extra add ons and the lazy mike burrito with steak. The pizza was a decent size for an app, loaded with cheese and flavors and the burrito was HUGE-def two portions worth. I thought it was tasty but disappointed with the 'spicy mayo' as there was literally no spice to it. The burrito was still good tho. You also get complimentary chips with two salsas. Ordered a specialty item that comes as both a bowl or burrito for the same price. I asked for the bowl with a tortilla on the side. Just because I find it easier to eat. So I was looking for a nice quick Mexican meal so I went in here and ordered the quesadilla lunch. As stated in their menu it's supposed to come with the quesadilla, sour cream, pico, a small drink and chips. The young man packed up my order and I asked if the pico and chips were in there because I didn't see him put them in. He said that it doesn't come with the chips or pico anymore. I was very skeptical of this place. Especially when my all time favorite Mexican place is located just up the block in the opposite direction. But I was absolutely blown away. Not trying to be anyone they are not Burrito Mariachi gives a Cali-Mex kinda vibe which I feel is very refreshing for Long Island. Their menu is pretty straight forward with items such as platters, tacos, quesadillas and of course, burritos. You are able to customize your food as you like it and with your order comes a bad of crisp tortilla chips. We ordered the Lazy Mike Burrito with chicken and French fries, and several tacos including creamy chicken, steak fajita and shrimp fajita. All around the food was outrageous and more flavorful than we expected. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. Something I would also like to point out is the rice that was packed into the burrito. So flippin' good! The place was VERY clean and there are tables set up for you to dine in if you so choose. I ordered a crispy bacon taco - they don't have bacon, but wanted to charge me the same price. Hidden gem of Farmingdale! If you're over the traditional chain "Mexican" restaurants, Burrito Mariachi is a refreshing new twist on quick-service Mexican food. It's located just a few blocks south on Main Street, so it's easily walkable from the main drag. I really enjoy their classic tacos (pro tips: get them on corn tortillas, and ask for the grilled onions, they're so flavorful!) The pork and ground beef are excellent. My boyfriend LOVES the "queen bee burrito" which has cayenne shrimp. You also get chips and salsa with your order - The green salsa is where it's at! I like that they have your classics available, but they've mixed in some fun signature dishes as well. I'm very curious about the "J and C burrito" which has crispy chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks on it! My 3 soft tacos were wrapped up in foil like burritos even though I asked to stay and eat. I had to use the bottled hot sauce for flavor and spice because they're BASIC tacos. DO NOT use their salsa??? I think it's marinara sauce from the pizzeria next door. Nothing special but meat, cheese and lettuce. No seasoning. No sauce. Hoping for authentic Mexican (or at the very least Chipotle-level), I was sorely disappointment in what I found. In my neighborhood we have a similar spot serving Asian-owned Mexican food, and this is not much different. I chose to go with the burrito bowl lunch special: consisting of two meat/specialty topping choices along with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, and cheese. I went with double steak. The steak tasted like a lower-priced cut of steak. The rice lacked flavor and was on the dry side for me, and everything else was average. I liked the fact that they include chips with your order and the two salsa choices (red and verde) were both really good. I don't believe I know of any similar restaurants in the area so it makes sense to me...but personally I would stick with the place closer to me :) read more

My friend and I went there today for lunch. He had tacos--asked the chef to make whatever he thought was best--and really liked them. I had a burrito. I liked that I was able to pick what I wanted in it, and it tasted really good. The meat was fresh and well-spiced; it didn't taste like it was sitting out on the counter a la Chipotle. Just tried out Burrito Mariachi for the first time this week! I have to say, they've done a beautiful job with the place. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and very open. It's a very similar concept to Moe's or Chipotle. You can order a menu meal or make your own burrito bowl, wrap or burrito. My husband and I enjoyed our lunches, which came with a side of empanadas instead of chips..he liked it but I didn't really care for the empanadas personally. Service was very good. We both eat Mexican food pretty regularly but had upset stomachs later in the day. Could have been a fluke. I think we will be giving Burrito Mariachi another try. I liked it but wasn't blown away. There's so many taco spots locally so they definitely have some tough competition..High Tide Taco is a nicer sit down service restaurant, Burrito Mariachi is more casual. El Paso is terrible. It's still nicer to try local small businesses over the corporate chains(Moe's and Chipotle) but I'm just picky. I'll update my review after we try it again sometime in the next month or so! read more
