Many years ago I use Burton Auto almost exclusively. The auto repair shop behind the pottery shop in downtown vashon tried to strong arm me into replacing my engine for hundreds of dollars more than other places charge for engine replacement. Worried about spending that much money, I decided to get a second opinion. I went to Burton Auto and spoke to the owner. The owner of Burton Auto advised me that I did not need a new engine. I drove my vehicle for 10 more years before selling it. I didn't need car repair but I use Burton Auto for oil changes and other maintenance. A few years ago I went back to Burton auto. The owner was nowhere in sight nor was his son or daughter. They were incredibly rude. I brought the car in for repair after having extensive diagnostic testing done by a mechanic that came to my house but then got another job. My car was an old car and it needed a special relay ordered for the electrical system. I was told Burton could get this. They called me a few hours later and told me to come get my car. They said it would take a while to get the part. I went and they wanted hundreds of dollars. Nothing had been repaired. They wanted a couple of hundred of dollars to tell me that the part I already knew needed to be replaced, needed to be replaced. Another time I went in with a flat tire. One of the workers screamed swear words at me for being in his way. Washington is one of the states where auto mechanics are not required to have professional licenses. I'm so disappointed with this place. I really wanted to like it and the two people working in the front are very kind and cheerful. I've heard nothing but good things about this shop so I was really surprised when it took them 4 times to fix the power steering pump on my daughter's Subaru. They kept citing manufacturer defect as the issue for the 3 broken pumps. They were apologetic and eager to try and make it right which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate was the advice of a mechanic, who was familiar with the car, being completely discounted. (Since the car was initially unsafe to drive off island my daughter was unable to take it to her usual mechanic.) The car continued to have problems until my daughter was able to get it to her mechanic who completely fixed everything and reported that some kind of sensor had been unplugged and not plugged back in and the wrong power steering fluid had been used. Burton Auto was very apologetic and refunded my daughter the amount she had to pay to have their mistakes fixed, which I really appreciated. I decided to give them another shot with my car because they were so nice and seemed to genuinely want to help. I had my battery replaced which seemed fine except they weren't exactly sure the battery they had would work and had to call the auto parts place on island to ask. I figured they should know but appreciated them making sure. Next time I had them change my oil, check my breaks, and asked them to see if there were brighter headlights available for my car and asked about the new LED headlights. I was told they didn't know about the LED headlights but would look into it. When I picked up my car one of the wheels was totally loose and I could barely drive the car so I had to turn around only a couple hundred feet away. The headlights they put in, which I specifically asked them to only replace the headlights if something brighter was available, were about half as bright as the ones they took out. They never looked into the LED headlights like they said they would and my fog lights are now brighter than my headlights. Before I couldn't even tell if the fog lights were on except in fog. Now I practically need the fog lights on to all the time. I was charged $150 for the bulbs and replacement. I feel really frustrated and won't use their shop again. The mechanics seem to have no idea what they're doing. The employees are very nice but after hearing nothing but good things about this place I feel it's really important that consumers have honest information about the service and mechanics here. read more

Tires yes, other work no. Man, they are expensive. The last couple of jobs (including a simple oil change) I had them estimate, they are 2 to 3 times as expensive as off island. $85 - $120 for an oil change? For an old pickup? No high milage or synthetic oil required, it doesn't burn a drop. I wanted a transmission fluid change and my front and rear differential's fluids changed out, they were three times the quote I got from a place in Tacoma. Convenience is important but so are dollars. Tires though, I don't get it , but they are a deal. Nice guys though, just expensive. read more

I scheduled an appointment to get my AC fixed and check the vehicle for any additional service that was needed. they quoted me their hourly rate to check the vehicle over which I fine with. They called me back later in the day and said they did an oil change that I had not asked for and did not even look at the AC that was my main concern. they said they didn't have any freon and didn't know when they would get some. I was billed $220! waste of my time and money. read more

I have used Burton Auto since I moved to Vashon Island seven years ago. I am not impressed by smiling faces or a helpful, can-do attitude, but rather by excellent service. Burton Auto has both. I have had tires, headlamps and a myriad of smaller auto parts replaced on my 2005 Volvo by Burton Auto along with all new rotors and brake pads, oil changes, etc. and I have been very happy with the work. They have done a great job taking care of my aging vehicle and NEVER selling me something I don't need and even fixing minor problems free of charge. With my teenager now driving our family car, I can honestly say I trust them completely, and I have never said that about any other auto shop. read more

When these guys say, "Service is our business," they really mean it! My car is under warranty, so I usually go to the dealership to get it serviced. Occasionally, however, I have tire issues - like I did this afternoon - and I take my car to Burton Auto. The guys always treat me as though I'm their favorite customer, even though my problems usually take more time to explain than to fix and don't generate much profit. Today, in fact, they didn't charge me anything for filling my tires when the warning light came on - and even pointed out a much more significant issue that could have had dire consequences. As I was leaving, I commented that I probably shouldn't have come at such a busy time (it was around 3:30 PM, and the place was packed - though I barely had to wait), and the guy assured me, "Any time we're open is a great time to stop in!" So thankful for this team of people that fixed our boat!! You can picture the scene - the one where you buy a boat in Mid May to be ready for all your friends coming on the 4th of July. You promised last year you'd have a bigger boat, their kids are all amped to come visit and go out on the boat, and then the boat starts having problems 1 week before the 4th. So, we called Burton Auto and they did an awesome job!! Very detail oriented, easy to communicate with, updates as you need them (and also friendly when you call to check on things- because you want to have your boat ready for the 4th!) The boat is back (with time to spare) and better than before! They even covered it with our tarp overnight in case it rained. Price was reasonable and the work and service they provided invaluable. These people know how to run a garage! read more

I was on Vashon with a flat and my spare was flat too. The car had to be drivable by 4 pm. Turns out Burton Auto already had someone driving around on the mainland picking up parts. I got the tire to Burton Auto at about 10:15 am and they had a new tire mounted and ready to go at 12:45 pm. Problem solved with a smile. They saved the day.
