I lived near Burton Place for a couple of years. It was the perfect dive bar to bring visitors for a pit stop while roaming the area. I had been there roughly 5-6 times before discovering they had TWO more floors above. I only discovered this after attending a holiday party there. When I wondered where everyone was going to fit, my friend told me the 2nd and 3rd floor. It blew my mind! Tater-tachos are probably the greatest culinary treat of my life. At least in the greasy, heart-attack inducing, bar-food category. Think high school lunch tater tots, covered in chili and cheese served with onions and sour cream on the side. That masterpiece aside, Burton Place is a dirty dive bar that serves pitchers and has a juke box with Miley Cyrus on repeat. Though the Miley is a result of the gentlemen on my kickball team feeding dollars into the juke box and choosing Hannah Montana over and over again. I can't speak to anything that goes on in this place after 5 PM because I only go on Saturday afternoons for post-game refreshments with Kelly F and Brian G. This place is not properly set up to be a 4am bar. The steps outside the entrance, the inevitable traffic jam between the inner and outer entranceways, the precarious stairs. The second and third floors were obviously not built with distributing alcohol (nor its inevitable consequences) in mind. Getting to the first floor bathrooms at 3:30 is a shoving match through a gauntlet of drunks. Burton Place is what happens when a little neighborhood dive gets a 4am license. That being said, stroll in on a Monday night for trivia and the place is totally appropriate (though the late-night wear and tear still shows through in spots.) The food is typical drunk-/bar-fare (there are way too may onions on the tater-totchos!), and more than once the draft pipes have been in dire need of a flush, but the staff is always friendly, the place is a never-crowded mix of regulars and randoms, and you can hear yourself think. Going to a 4am bar always comes with a measure of crowded, drunken annoyances, but with the way Burton Place is set up, you might be better off going somewhere else and leaving this place to be the little dive it always should have been. read more

Dropped in on a Sat afternoon to have a cool one, watch some college football. Love this place, but with one BIG exception: The draft beer isn't cold enough. As they poured it,I noticed it had a big head of foam right out of the tap; and from watching Bar Rescue I know that usually means it's too warm, and it was. (BTW, this costs the bar money, as too much beer needs to be poured off as foam). Also, the glass wasn't frosty. Just right off the shelf, room temp. A BIG no-no, IMO. If they every get that fixed, this place goes to 5 stars immediately. "Dive" type place (I mean that in a good way), great location, unpretentious, TouchTunes juke box, great beer selection, good crowd, several flat screens. Where to begin with Burton Place. I recently moved to the area so we've been frequenting this place quite a bit. It's a hotspot after 2am when most of the other bars on Wells close. It is extremely divey and I would be afraid to see what this place looks like in the daylight. Nonetheless, this place has 3 floors, each equipped with a large dance floor. If you like to drunkenly dance then this is your spot. The average BAC in this bar after 2am is over .2 so expect a rowdy crowd. I have never eaten here nor do I really want to but the other night I was standing at the bar and someone next to me ordered the buffalo wings and the smell definitely piqued my interest. I might have to wet my beak in those wings. We'll see. I guess I won't rule it out anymore. Pro Tip: Third floor is where the best dancers go to show off their latest moves. Burtons place is the spot to go when your looking for good drinks and amazing food!!! Their karaoke Sundays are spectacular, and just makes it an even more fun time. Zero stars but I can't give them zero stars BC I can't give them zero on Yelp. Number 1: they will take away your drink and try to drag you out of the bar after they just sold you the drinks that you paid for... But that's not the worse part... Number 2: The worse part is that their employees are racist, saying things about certain races that weren't appropriate. This is our favorite Sunday bar. A dive bar with a nice friendly laid back atmosphere and a very cool and funny bartender! They have a good BLT and their beer specials on Sunday rock ($6 pitchers of anything). Burton Place is a no frills bar when you're looking for no frills. Good jukebox too!! Great little neighborhood place to get rid of a Saturday night hangover. This bar is always good to our crazy drunken running club so extra brownie points for that. Burton's Place, the Manolo Blahnik of Chicago bars! If Beethoven would have composed his 10th Symphony, it would have looked and sounded exactly like Burton's Place except in dark lit corner bar form. I mean this place has it ALL, absolutely EVERYTHING can be found here folks. I haven't visited this fine drinking and dining establishment in quite some time and coming back last night made me realize what I have been missing. Immediately upon entering you can't help but feel warm and cozy like a fireplace in a cabin during winter solstice. Everyone here has a cracked iPhone screen, so this must be some sort of express entry into the place. I immediately headed up to the third floor. Let me tell you, this place looked just like the ballroom in the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. From slightly stained velvet curtains, to linoleum floors to Formica countertops, I was in complete awe! I was just waiting for Lumière and Cogsworth to show up. LOL.... You can't help but notice the aroma emanating from here. It's if heaven's angels were playfully fighting and spilling Drakkar, Cool Water and Abercrombie Woods all over the place. Maybe it was a special Friday night but the patrons were all dressed to the 9's. The crème de la crème of Chicago were here. I saw cowboy hats, pleather jackets, mom jeans, fupa accentuating pants, "Hoof-Arted" t-shirts. See and be seen! Tonight must have been a zombie themed night because everyone was stumbling into permanent walls, puking on the floor, and falling down the stairs while trying to go to "third base".... Millennial's and their themes I tell ya! I didn't mind the song "Face down ass up" too much but my only recommendation would be to have a few more Barry Manilow songs besides Copacabana and Mandy in the jukebox.....obviously! You must also try the food. I showed up late so they were out of the prime rib. Instead, I tried the pommes frites, tots frites and deep fried battered chicken cutlets. The perfect compliment to a 2011 Bigfoot merlot or a pint of their finest Miller High Life. Food and Wine magazine, eat your heart out! Say what you want about this place, but I have never not had a great time here. The multiple floors allow for ample space to explore while also ignoring people you may not want to run into. The staff is very friendly, especially Shelly (?) who works on the first floor. She really took care of us. While the bottom looks like a dive, the upper two floors are not bad. If you are looking for a late night bar (or anytime bar where you want several strong drinks), I'd recommend it. The main floor was pretty standard and very crowded. The second floor was a creepy wanna be dance floor with no one on it. Burton Place is pretty cool as far as hole-in-the-wall places go. When I am there my kickball team represents about 80% of the clientele. My first experience with Burton Place (before it attained widespread notoriety as the honored sponsor of the Jalapeno Hotties) was on a blind date. I would NOT recommend this bar for a first date, blind date, or in fact any date. I'm 25 and I think I brought the average age of the crowd down to about 60. If I lived in the area (Old Town), I might go there more frequently. As it is, I probably will only show up as part of the kickball crowd. I'm a quesadilla freak, so of course I had to try them. We went to Burton's Place on a Saturday night. I don't know what the bartenders name was upstairs, but she was rude beyond belief. She denied my entire group water and told us that she had the right. This was on Saturday, September 15, 2012. I know she was busy and I can appreciate that, but she was so rude that it made us leave early. Her attitude was unacceptable and I know it is a late night bar but there still needs to be a level of service to paying customers. I know she has to deal with drunk people all the time and it could get frustrating but you have to help people that are just trying to get water. Damn, there is a lot of hate in Chicago for this great dive bar. Burton Place was a nice respite from all the trendy spots we hit up while in Chicago. It gave me flashbacks to my college days, which always make me warm and fuzzy inside. Brooklyn Brown on draft made me happy considering the lack of dark beer options (not counting Guinness) at many of the bars we went to. I liked the mix of patrons.. a little diversity never hurt anyone.. and I absolutely loved the percentage of men to women here... come on Atlanta, kick some ladies out of the city. by far my favorite late night bar in the city. everyone I've taken there seems to fall in love with it just as quickly as i did. I've been going there for about 5 years now and all the bartenders there were super nice and really attentive from the get-go. The door guys are always super nice and they look out for me when i'm there..Like when there was a creepy guy that wouldn't leave me alone the bartender even stepped in. There is a high energy atmosphere especially after 2 (which is when most of the bars close around there) and on weekends expect to be walking into a bar 4 deep. good thing is that they have 3 floors that you can drink on floor 2/3 both have pool tables and the music is good on all levels. The drinks there are poured heavy and they always manage to refill you very quickly. =) the food menu is your typical bar fare and let me tell you it is yummy at 2 am they have a pizza puff HELLO!!! greatness!. mmm chicken wings. i think i have had almost everything there and all of it is great! Wish I could give this place zero stars. Starting off with the employees who work there. Extremely unprofessional and rude. Bouncer said we could come back in and go upstairs no problem when we went for a smoke. Came back in and tried to go upstairs and the bouncer would not let us. Let 3 underage girls ( I know this because one of them is my sisters friend) go upstairs and also allowed some girl who randomly pulled my hair for no reason go up. So of course, my friends and I got upset and he kicked us out. Best part is, the OWNER was outside and we explained everything and he couldn't care less. This place is a trash hole and I'm warning you now, don't go for over priced drinks to be disrespected by their bouncers as well as management. Stopped for a drink around 11pm on saturday. It was a tiny bit busy but we were still able to grab seats by the oval bar. Drinks were strong (almost too strong) The bartender and staff were friendly. The place is such a dive especially in comparing a lot of the bigger bars like benchmark. The area between the wall and bar is narrow so be preparred for drunk idiots to hit you or to rub up on someone (maybe that's what youd like ;) ) Not a bad spot to grab a drink and the food looked (and smelled) pretty good too. read more

I live practically around the corner and would like to thank Burton Place for always taking me in with a smiling face when I'm hungry and don't want to break the bank. They have specials every day and their food is awesome! Did I mention they serve food until 3am yet?! Great pub food and I haven't met a bartender here that I didn't like. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. It's the type of place where there are regulars every day and they are open to having more regulars and getting to know you. If you're not much of a talker, no big deal, just enjoy a nice bite and/or pint and watch TV on the big screens they have directly above the bar. It's a pretty simple space -- bar in the middle of the room, ~20 seats around it, plus a Touch Tunes jukebox that was the focal point of our evening. This is usually the late-night stop off since it is open after-hours. Completely reminiscent of a fraternity house on third floor with it's decor. The second floor has a pool table and a bar while the first floor has got the juke box. I like that it is a chill bar where I can grab a quick beer at and not feel like I need to get decked!
