I was able to take care of my scheduling and payment online prior to getting to the class. Upon arrival I was greeted by Steve and filled out a waiver. Then I got to chit-chat with professor Ryan a bit before class. The class was 2 hours with a warm up, self defense, Jiu jitsu technique and positional sparring. Really great class, as they say "the devil is in the details", professor Ryan had the "invisible Jiu jitsu" tips and concepts to help out the whole class. He was able to help me with my stack passing! As a traveling brown belt, it's always nice to experience other academies. It's an excellent school…read morewith a variety of classes (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai Boxing, Wrestling) and has several class times to choose from every day of the week/weekends. The gym is very family oriented, has 2 bathrooms, a shower, weight room, boxing ring, about 8-10 punching bags and seating areas to watch the classes. A lot of the members have been here for awhile and even earned their black belts from Tery Corkran (owner) so not only do you have one of the original Dallas Machado black belts to learn and train from, but you also have many students who are now black belts and higher ranking to train with too. Most classes you can find at least 2-5 brown/black belts and theres also a good mix of ladies who train too. As far as the contract issues other reviewers have mentioned, it's really no different than other gyms. NTMMA is an established gym and a business. I've had the issue happen with other businesses like my tanning and yoga memberships and neither one refunded me for the 6months-year I forgot I was paying for but didn't use so I certainly wouldn't expect a different outcome from a similar contract. You have the option of not doing a membership but pay a little more so if you know you can't keep up with auto payments, choose the month to month or ask about paying the year up front for a discounted rate.
