Scheduled online for 3:30. Stepped in at 3:32 to see two barbers busy with clients and one cleaning up. Sat down as the only person with my son waiting expecting to be next and waited patiently. My son played Street Fighter for 30 minutes realized our barber isn't even here. Ok, maybe barber one or two would pick him up. Nope. Both barbers become free and we're told we're a no-show because we did not interrupt to get checked in. Worst service and high prices. read more

I had the worst haircut with Justin. It took over an hour and once I finally looked in the mirror, he completely messed up the line-up. My hairline is now a diagonal line because he pushed it too high on one side. The worst part is that I can't even fix it because that would completely screw up my hairline, so I just have to wait for it to grow back and get it cut properly. This review is for the owner, Kuno. First he does give a great haircut. Unfortunately, he regularly just doesn't show up TO YOUR BOOKED APPOINTMENT. He has been a NO SHOW 5 times. 2 times with absolutely no reason given, 1 time he "pulled his quad so couldn't stand, the next time something happened to his dog, and the most recent time a "family emergency". When I called the shop for an explanation the other barbers were delightful and apologized but said it happens regularly. I have called and texted Kuno and he refuses to answer either. You have been warned... do not book with Kuno. read more

I had an appointment for a beard trim and haircut with Beto on Sunday, January 12th, 2025, at 6:30 AM. Unfortunately, Beto did not show up on time, and after waiting around for a while, I had to forfeit my appointment. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since I made sure to book the appointment well in advance. A total waste of time, and I won't be returning. We were so very disappointed in our 40$, 20minute hair cut this month for my teenage son. After discussing for several minutes with Ayhan, sharing photos and discussing lengths (shortest length in the front to be to eye level). I even stood up (like a crazy mama bear) and told him not to go shorter at one point during the cut, but I'm pretty sure he didn't even heed my alarm even a little. I don't know how layering works so I tried to back off after I reminded him not to go shorter. We wound up very very very disappointed- excuses I was given was first that the cut looked better with the front that length followed by- that's the length that you told me to cut it to. read more

Ive been to Bushwacker for 7+ years - My review if not for the business, I love this place and many stylists here. I just had very similar experience with Ayhan as one of the customer reviews earlier. He did 5-7 mins job, was really harsh cutting while I can see my son swaying as he was so rough. Asking him to cut hair shorter triggered him to show attitude. Terrible experience, no customer facing skills, poor communication and really bad attitude. I feel Bushwacker can do a better job screening folks ( most of them are great) but quality has gone down with prices close to $50. read more

After trying a few different barbershops in the San Mateo area, Bushwackers covered a lot of the basic amenities like online booking, a nearby ATM, and decent parking options. I've gotten my hair cut by multiple barbers, and each one is equally skilled and brings their own personality and flair. This barbershop is unreliable. I brought my son in several times for a haircut with an appointment. The barbers here seemed to be more busy with socializing and hanging out than running a business. I made an appointment the however the wait time always exceeds over 30 to 45 minutes. For walkins you're almost never get in. There's no receptionist at the desk to confirm appointments and the shop always seems understaffed. I've even tried the other location on El Camino which is only staffed by one individual who complains about getting overbooked all the time. Save your self fine fine another shop. read more

I had the worst haircut done by Jafet. My hair was wet so I could not see until I got home and hair was dry. One side was visibly longer than the other. On top of that, my hair was cut unevenly everywhere, long hair was sticking out in different parts of the head. Around the edges it was left too thick. It looked so hideous that I had to go back to the shop. Jafet was not there by that time, Beto was nice enough to even my hair out somewhat. Unfortunately it ended up too short and had to wait four weeks for hair to grow out and look normal. Looks like Jafet needs some more professional training. read more

Bushwacker has taken the old independent barbershop model updated and franchised it. I've been to two and they both felt equally welcoming but with that neighborhood feel. Guys chatting like they all know each other. Comfy, chill, cool. Getting a spot isn't too difficult but they are busy, call a day or two ahead. All the barbers have cool hair but not so cool that it makes you self-conscious. The price varies a little but hovers around 40$ which, all things considered, isn't too bad. Down right reasonable! Of course what matters most is the cut and both times I got a nice do. I'm going to make the one in San Bruno my regular spot. Now if they would only create a subscription model for barbershops like they do for car washes and the like! I would be tight all the time! read more

Had my haircut done here recently. It was a pretty good haircut but same as what you can get at another salon for a lesser price. I didn't like that they don't sweep/vacuum the hair on the floor after each client. I work 6 days a week and have 1 day to get my personal things done so when I'm making appointments and they are getting canceled an hour or two before it's extremely frustrating. Did a same day appointment with Dante. I asked for a combover and a fade on the side. He simply didn't fade the sides at all, it was all one length. And the combover wasn't textured at, i had to ask twice for him to thin it out so it wasnt so heavy. Friendly, but didn't seem experienced with asian men hair. Wish he had spent more time on the haircut for 40 bucks (+ 5 bucks tip) wouldn't reccomend for the style I was asking for. read more

Ayhan was very careful, it was clear he had experience (13 years) and understood very well what I wanted. Ayhan was checking in often about whether the length was correct before trimming or cutting. In particular I felt that Ayhan was skillful, and had a knack for making the thinning portion of my hair look fuller on top through creative blending techniques and working with the cowlicks. My son needed a haircut bad! His last haircut at a kids place didn't go so well. Too much stimulation with the TVs and toys. I took a chance and decided to take him to a legitimate barber. I've always been curious about this place. I thought my appointment was at 930 and it was really for 9. Adrian called and he let me hustle down the road to get my boy there. My mistake. He was super cool about being a little late and he was cool with my boy and made him feel comfortable and was very encouraging. No melt downs or tears this time. His hair came out good and we got what we wanted. No clipper bites and he hooked my lil big man up with a lolipop. TLDR: Kuno could no show and never tell you or his other barbers. I had an appointment 2 months ago with Kuno. When I arrived, there was only one barber (not Kuno) who said that Kuno hadn't showed up and he hadn't heard from him. I was never contacted and it also seemed that the other barber wasn't contacted either. There was no offer to reschedule or even just a sorry later. Today, I was thinking about trying Bushwacker again and decided to check reviews here first.
