Canned green beans?!! Canned?!? I gave this place a second try but never again! Canned green beans, my God!

I thought I'd give this a try with Uber eats even though I've read some not great reviews..well we ordered the pork baby back ribs, chicken and brisket with a side of Mac and cheese and baked beans. The baked beans were the best part of the dish (and I'm not even a baked beans fan) but they had a nice sweet and vinegar balance! The brisket and chicken tasted alright but a bit on the dry side. Mac and cheese was pretty average if not a bit on the bland side. The whole reason for the order was we were craving ribs but these were so bad that we could only eat one rib each. They were not only dry without any seasoning (till we doused with bbq sauce anyway) but had a gamey flavor. Not great at all:( Oh and I got a slice of "Texas toast" but looked more like a smashed piece of wonder bread with a little butter and garlic so was not impressed with this either. Next time if I want cheap bbq I'll be ordering Dicky's as their meat still falls off the bone with yummy flavor and sides to boot. read more

Gave busters one last shot today. So sad. The beef ribs were cooked to a crisp. Hardly Any meat on them, and salty as can be. Couldn't even eat em, so hard to even get the meat off the bone. Mac and cheese was overly salty too. Only good item was the baked beans today. It used to be so much better not sure what happened. Wasted 20.00 on dinner that I couldn't even eat. Wishing we would have spoken up while we're still there maybe we could have exchanged our barbecued ribs for something not so overdone. The ribs were so dry. The flavor was good but it's like they were done at noon and keep under a lamp until we got there at 5:00. The outside was hard. Everything else was good. A mediocre experience overall, hardly worth the time or money. The brisket is particularly offensive with its mere existence as I've had eye round more tender and flavorful than their brisket plus the smoke ring was thinner than paper. Their hot sausage was similarly disappointing as their heat gave the sausage an almost chemical taste making the mild sausage actually taste better of the two. I grew up eating Busters when I was young but as a n adult haven't been back until recently but only for 'to-go'. They are open for indoor dinning but we try to eat no/low carb &sugar. If you like this food, you deserve to eat doodie. Forever. I saw no immediate mention of this place being CAFETERIA STYLE BULLSHIT. I didn't do my research either. The parking lot was always full, so I assumed it was okay. Wrong. My mom & dad moved to the area recently and really wanted BBQ. We kept driving past Buster's, and it said "Texas Style BBQ" and had a smoker outside. Great! My husband is from Texas & we enjoy smoked meats. Sure, why not? I'll tell you why not. Nothing is made to order. Nothing. You grab a tray, go down the cafeteria line, and get your flavorless meats. The ribs had NO FLAVOR. How is this possible? The blah sauces don't help. Their Texas toast is rubbery, and if you had two they'd be matching pot handles. The only decent thing is the potato salad. But you pay the same amount as you would at an actual GOOD BBQ place. If you're in Gresham and want BBQ, this is the place! Popped in here for happy hour and our server was so friendly and fast. I ordered a brisket and turkey sandwich on garlic bread - amazing! The meats we're both tender with just a hint of that delicious smokey flavor. We ordered mozzarella sticks and a beverage to go with our meal and wasn't disappointed in the least. One of the awesome perks about this restaurant is they have plenty of BBQ sauce options to choose from - I tried all of them! Our first order was for delivery today for us and our guests. Arrived on time with everything we ordered. The sides were the best part, and they were no better than average for cole slaw, mac n cheese, beans and potato salad. But I mistook the baby backs for jerky that they were too lazy to strip off the bone, but no, it was supposed to be our rack of ribs. Every bite was crunchy dry, if not brittle, without a hint of being smoked. I stared at sad faces all around. Same thing with the beef ribs. Buster's in an interesting place, and provides a good value. This is a cafeteria-style establishment, so you grab a tray and order you food as you go along. This lets you see everything before you choose, and avoids any wait staff. There's not even a place on the receipt to add a tip. This is good because you get your food right away, you get free refills on the drinks (which you get yourself), there's a "serve yourself" condiment bar, and plenty of napkins at the tables. How's the food? Passable. The brisket and chicken have a good smoky flavor, but are REALLY dry...REALLY, REALLY dry. I made the mistake of trying the beef ribs, and they just barely qualify as "fit for human consumption" - tough is an understatement (think beef jerky or a leather belt), and barely had any usable meat on them (lots of fat, though). Went back and ordered baby backs, and they were certainly better, but were also overly dry. I'm no pit master, but two in my party said that the ribs I make were "much better". The pulled pork was the best protein: smoky, comparatively tender, perfectly-sauced (quantity-wise), and pretty tasty. Steer clear of the "Chicken strips" kids meal. The chicken is more processed than McNuggets, and one bite was enough for my son. The fries taste like generics, not even as good as those frozen garbage Ore-Ida horrors. The potato salad was the real surprise - it was actually very good. Lots of big chunks of hard-boiled egg, and the potatoes in it were cooked perfectly. The macaroni and cheese was definitely on the better side of average, too. It is sad to say, but the highest-rated item by all in my party was the toast. All told, $53 for five of us is really cheap, but I wound up spending an extra $20 for some baby backs due the horrific beef ribs and a macaroni and cheese kids meal because of the nasty chicken strips. I'll give you credit for the bark and smoke ring, but if you have to rehydrate your brisket with your (tasty) sauce, what's the point? Just shove it in a bag in the oven, then. Used to be much better. Very expensive. All meats I had we completely dried out, brisket, chicken and ribs. I don't mind paying for good barbecue but this is crazy for what you get. Barbecue should be tender and moist without being over cooked, they are missing the mark unfortunately since we have so few options for barbecue here. read more

Updating my review from 3 to 4 stars. Buster's has really improved since my last review! I sometimes eat here on my lunch breaks, and over the last few months the meat and side quality has been very good. I'm still disappointed with the Texas Toast, but that's really not what anyone goes to a BBQ place for. The brisket and spare ribs are my most common choices, and they've been very tasty. The portions are still slightly lacking for the price paid, but I never leave feeling hungry. I just feel that for the $17 meal, I should either get a few more slices of brisket, or the price should be closer to $15. Either way, Buster's is a good place for quick and decent BBQ food. read more

I had to get a to go lunch from Busters and opted for the Pulled Pork on Garlic Toast. It was kick ass good. Perfect grill on the toast and right amount of Barbecue sauce mixed into the pork. It also had the right amount of char on the pork edges. Along with that I also had the Texas Chili. With a little cheddar cheese on top it was the right compliment to the sandwich. When it comes to que it's only as good as the people who make it. I haven't been in here for quite a while and man have things changed for the better. I came for a take out order and was pleased to see how clean the place was. All the meats are kept in covered warming trays and the quality was vastly improved. I got half a chicken, jalapeño sausage ( a favorite ), and 1/2 pound of turkey. I also had a small side of barbecue beans. The chicken was fall apart juicy and delicious, the sausage snapped in its casing and was spicy but flavorful. What really shined though was the turkey. Mostly white meat and fall apart tender, flavorful, and juicy. Having been to West Texas Hill country I appreciate good barbecue so I know what I'm talking about. This isn't at that level but it ain't that bad either. Next time I return I'll try the brisket and ribs which I promised myself I'd never order from them again solely because they have somebody in the kitchen who can cook. The service was excellent and all the fixin's ( pickles, onions, white bread) in a buffet table on the end. Cafeteria style ( common in Tehas) with booths. Dining room is open. I grew up in Texas, love barbecue, love Texas-style barbecue in particular. I drove by and saw Busters several times and had to go in and try it, after all, how bad could it be? This was my first mistake. First of all, this is not a restaurant, it is a CAFETERIA. This is not made clear on their website, on Yelp, or on the outside of the building, but it is a cafeteria. A really, really bad cafeteria. The food is abysmal. The ribs are not only cooked naked (meaning without sauce, which is not Texas style, which is wet) they are UNSEASONED. The brisket was dry, which I didn't even know was possible. The bread was like a rubber potholder. The "salad" is a small wedge of iceberg. The sides are clearly microwaved, and they are served with ice cream scoops. The atmosphere is like a dying truck stop. The music is God-awful. Again, I grew up in Texas, so I can appreciate good or even below average country music. What they play in here is what can only be described as trailer-park country. I felt like I should spray mustard all over my wife beater and use a hubcap as a dining plate. Lastly, we get to the absurd, outrageous, ridiculous, wildly unreasonable and inappropriate prices at Busters. The prices are a little over double what they should be for the quality of the food. A rack of ribs here is the same price as it is at Famous Dave's (a pretty good BBQ chain), where they actually wait on you and actually season and barbecue their food. Honestly, if you like the food here, you don't actually like barbecue. I would rather eat a BBQ TV dinner than eat here again. Places like this are why Yelp needs a zero star option. read more

It's Texas style so that would explain the music. I grabbed a plastic tray with a cowboy motif on it and some flatware, and moved to the order counter. "Pork ribs please", and within one tenth of a second he slapped three large ribs and a limp piece of toast on my cowboy tray and was gone. I moved a little further down the counter and found sides. "Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw please", and within five tenths of a second she slid two bowl across. I moseyed over to the cowboy motif booth and took a seat. The ribs looked like a cross between beef ribs and pork ribs. Do they genetically splice cows and pigs these days? Now good pork ribs should fall off the bone. As a matter of fact, you should be able to simply put one end in your mouth and suck the meat off off the bone. These were more like jerky. If you like to gnaw - this might just be your thing. My dog loved what I didn't eat, but it took him awhile to gnaw through it. The Mac & Cheese was beige - a little lighter than butcher paper. I've never seen cheese this particular color, but it had no taste except for maybe salt. The Cole Shaw looked like shredded cabbage in a bowl of milk. It was tasteless as well. It had been awhile since I'd been in Buster's since Outlaw opened up the street, so we stopped in. It was lunch and things were just picking up. I got the smoked turkey breast and brisket. I got the green salad and my son got the baked beans. That said, my turkey was like eating turkey tree bark it was so dry. The brisket was a little better, but not by much. I have had their turkey when it wasn't so dry, but since we were one of the first people in the door after they opened, I didn't understand why it was so dry, its not like we were getting heat lamp scraps at closing. The BBQ sauce is okay, we had the sweet and the mild on the table and I dipped in both, I couldn't tell a difference, but my son said the beans were basically beans floating in one of those sauces, did I want a taste? uh, no thank you. The flavor is pretty smokey, so I can eat their turkey with no sauce, when it is not dry. I am not giving them another shot though because the last time I was there, I remember the same issues with the meat being dry. I did ask how much it would be to add ONE beef rib and it is $3.95 for ONE rib, to me that sounded kind of expensive, since the last bee rib I had in there was pretty much a bone with smoke flavoring and no meat.
