I've been a Black Bear "diner" since it opened at Mt Shasta in 1995, though I swear I went there even earlier. I've always enjoyed the food, the ambience, and usually, the staff. Gresham's BBD is no different. I've eaten there many times - the food is consistently cooked to my preferences, delivered quickly, right off the grill. The staff, from Justin in the kitchen, through Andrea and the wait staff, on down to the support folks (Hi, Sam), are all friendly, professional, and helpful. It doesn't hurt, either, in this particular time, to provide a STEAK & EGGS weekday special for $11.99 (cheaper than I can make at home). While the food tasted OK, you go to Black Bear diners for the portion sizes and the country-sweet service, amply supplied on our visit. Hard to mess up a breakfast. While good in every respect, the prices are creeping up to almost unaffordable ($15 for simple breakfast). The little less meatloaf dinner was only $13 and was plenty filling, especially with the side order of onion rings. Average comfort food, but served with a smile. read more

Food was not good, got the $20 country fried steak combo with my eggs over medium, white toast and red potatoes Eggs were super runny, toast was hard and burnt with barely any butter and potatoes were inedible-- very rubbery in texture. Country friend steak was the only saving grace and that wasn't enough to leave me satisfied with the experience. Waitress was polite but inattentive, came to the table once about 3 minutes after the food was served and then disappeared until she came to drop the check off. When she did, she said nothing, just placed it on the table and walked away wordlessly. This was my second time at a Black Bear Diner and might be my last, I really enjoyed the first experience I had at a different location so I was looking forward to this one and drove 45 minutes from La Center to get here. The Volcano was amazing. It came with sausage, thick bacon, eggs, and sweet cream pancakes. Also had a side of grits. After that I got a berry cobbler which was kind of disappointing. The crust wasn't really crispy and some of the fruit wasn't really hot inside some of it was still cold. The service was great. Went to lunch at black bear I ordered chicken Cesar and it came with no chicken the waitress Lisa said I asked you if you wanted chicken or salmon, not sure how she didn't understand I wanted chicken when I ordered a chicken Cesar she did bring the chicken but a lot of the romaine lettuce was black and wilted when she finally came to check on us I told her about it and that she should let the cooks know she just said ok no I'm sorry or would you like us to remake it. This place has gone downhill. We ate dinner last night . I ordered the chicken pot pie ,. It looked beautiful with the golden crust on top , but was hiding the brown mushy over salted sludge inside . It looked and tasted like all the leftover potatoes and vegetables ,brown gravy were added together .. threw in some chicken and called it chicken pie. I v never eaten chicken pot pie that was brown It was truly Awful. My husband ordered blueberry pancakes . They brought him regular ... he asked about the blueberries, the server brought him a bowl of COLD blueberry compote right out of the fridge ! So this was a great place for what they do. Lots of open space, no squished together tables. People were very friendly and service was quick. Their menus are in newspapers which is fun, and there is cute bear decor. I ordered the taco salad, which was enormous in size, fresh veg, lots of cheese, and the crispy tortilla shell was fried perfectly. My only gripe was I needed more salsa, lots and lots, the size of the salad needs more than a tiny ramekin. This isn't special food, it is classic diner food done exceptionally well, and simply. Stopped by this location to grab breakfast, first time at a BBD. Food was tasty and the portion sizes were a nice surprise, something I guess these diners are known for. This location is definitely older in deco compared to other locations. Searings are still plenty. There are lots of parking in the parking lot. The service was very good. The breakfast plates came with large portions. My husband upgraded the bacon to hot patties for $2.99 more. It was a good upgrade as you would get more meat. Typically an ok place however my food was not prepared correctly and the waitress who was abrupt and adamant about my order made it worse. I ordered a double patty melt and was charged an additional $5 for the meat which I agreed to but when I got the food it only had 1 piece of meat, not 2. She tried to tell me it was 2 but when I pointed out I'm only seeing 1 piece of meat she said NO, it's there just the cook cut it weirdly which made no sense as the sand was cut in half and she said "see it's there" I didn't want to embarrass my friend so I played along, tipped her, and never want to go back! First time into this really cute restaurant for a small lunch. They sell themed bear chochkees, service was perfect, just enough attention at just the right time. The chili was basic chili, could have been a little spicier but I have southern tastes in chili, and for fries it was perfectly fine.
