They took our order before a large group, so we didn't wait too long for our food. I ordered: Turkey Club and Vegetable soup. I truly enjoyed them. Half I took home for another meal. I've been a Black Bear "diner" since it opened at Mt Shasta in 1995, though I swear I went there even earlier. I've always enjoyed the food, the ambience, and usually, the staff. Gresham's BBD is no different. I've eaten there many times - the food is consistently cooked to my preferences, delivered quickly, right off the grill. The staff, from Justin in the kitchen, through Andrea and the wait staff, on down to the support folks (Hi, Sam), are all friendly, professional, and helpful. It doesn't hurt, either, in this particular time, to provide a STEAK & EGGS weekday special for $11.99 (cheaper than I can make at home). Food was not good, got the $20 country fried steak combo with my eggs over medium, white toast and red potatoes Eggs were super runny, toast was hard and burnt with barely any butter and potatoes were inedible-- very rubbery in texture. Country friend steak was the only saving grace and that wasn't enough to leave me satisfied with the experience. Waitress was polite but inattentive, came to the table once about 3 minutes after the food was served and then disappeared until she came to drop the check off. When she did, she said nothing, just placed it on the table and walked away wordlessly. This was my second time at a Black Bear Diner and might be my last, I really enjoyed the first experience I had at a different location so I was looking forward to this one and drove 45 minutes from La Center to get here. The Volcano was amazing. It came with sausage, thick bacon, eggs, and sweet cream pancakes. Also had a side of grits. After that I got a berry cobbler which was kind of disappointing. So this was a great place for what they do. Lots of open space, no squished together tables. People were very friendly and service was quick. Their menus are in newspapers which is fun, and there is cute bear decor. I ordered the taco salad, which was enormous in size, fresh veg, lots of cheese, and the crispy tortilla shell was fried perfectly. My only gripe was I needed more salsa, lots and lots, the size of the salad needs more than a tiny ramekin. This isn't special food, it is classic diner food done exceptionally well, and simply. Went to lunch at black bear I ordered chicken Cesar and it came with no chicken the waitress Lisa said I asked you if you wanted chicken or salmon, not sure how she didn't understand I wanted chicken when I ordered a chicken Cesar she did bring the chicken but a lot of the romaine lettuce was black and wilted when she finally came to check on us I told her about it and that she should let the cooks know she just said ok no I'm sorry or would you like us to remake it.
