My family went to Elmer's for Mother's Day, and although it was extremely busy, we received excellent service and food. I appreciated the fact that a very friendly staff member was in the entryway taking down our names and putting us in line. I always order the German pancake; so did my daughters, and it tasted fabulous. My hubby got the Farmer's Omelet, which was also very good. Special shout-out to Tara, our amazing server. She was kept very busy, but never lost her smile and friendliness, and her service was excellent. She's a wonderful asset to your business and I hope she's our server next time we come in. I live around here so to me, this is a casual normal diner. I love the vibe, the staff are always super friendly and kind and it smells so good. It's usually pretty busy around breakfast time but it's worth it just for the cozy atmosphere. I get the same thing everytime so I know just what to expect, the Denver is so good, always very cheesy and the portion is huge! Always need to salt the Hashbrowns though but they're cooked to perfection usually. Overall just a comfort place to stop if you need a bite. read more

I'm usually very happy with Elmer's but disappointed this time. Farmers omelet had little or no cheese, hard to eat because it "fell apart" and I had to stab the small pieces with the fork to eat- very dry. Mom was unhappy with the gravy on her biscuits. The service was great as usually, very accommodating and fast. Wasn't a deal breaker, we will be back but not for a while. Avoid the dishes with gravy! Restaurant was clean too. read more

A great place to eat. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, you can't go wrong. They have a long term dedicated staff to make your visit enjoyable. The management of this particular Gresham restaurant has been with the company for decades. Elmers promotes from within and that continues a pattern of excellence in regard to the company culture. I've been a loyal customer since it opened decades ago. I normally eat there once a week and know the staff well. Decent food. Friendly servers, clean space. Nice to see restaurants busy again. Despite it seeming crowded, we were seated quickly. The menu is huge, plenty of typical American breakfast food. I'm guessing the variety probably slows the kitchen down but it's nice for groups who have people with very different breakfast / brunch cravings. I had a breakfast with hash browns, two over-easy eggs, and bacon. I can't say it was outstanding but also no real complaints. Volume was on the louder side. The hash browns are a thicker cut, almost like home fries, and just a hint on the undercooked side. The cheese was mixed in rather than melted over the top like most places do (I prefer the melted over the top method for maximum cheesiness). Eggs were right, bacon was crispy per my request. Coffee was very strong and very dark - not a great flavor but it keeps the caffeine headache at bay. I ordered the potato pancakes with side meat and eggs. The service was just fine. The potato pancakes were awful. Really bad. Potato pancakes are European by tradition and are supposed to be made with mashed potatoes. It may include an egg in the mixture to keep it together and then fried just to crisp the edges. I think the managing cook needs a new job! They were just strip hashbrowns mixed with cheddar and bits of bacon fried into a messy mush and greasy. Do NOT bother please! read more

The food was abysmal. The waiter had really long fingernails that weren't completely clean (see picture). Everyone working there seemed miserable. The inside of my rueben was cold. I hadn't eaten at Elmer's for a long time because the last time I went I had a bad experience. My son picked this place for breakfast and I decided to give it a go. The parking lot is pretty big and is right on a main road. There is some street parking if necessary. We were greeted promptly and taken to our seat. The staff is adhering to all CDC guidelines (masks, distancing, etc.) Our waitress was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I ordered the French Toast and my son ordered cheeseburger sliders. My meal came with eggs and bacon and I added a side of home fries. Everything was excellent. The french toast wasn't soggy in the middle and the bacon was crispy. The home fries came in a small serving, but they were evenly cooked and seasoned. This experience changed my mind about Elmer's. I would visit this location again. read more

Ordered an omelette with avocado & salsa that was pictured in the menu, the presentation was really good and started eating the omelette and noticed it started to have an aftertaste of something and after I've eaten about 70% of it I let out a burp and it tasted and smelled like burnt deep fat frying oil. I stopped eating as it was making me feel queasy and the coffee was really strong like it was condensed, one sip was giving me a heart burn, and noticed that everyone got their check on a plastic tray, the waitress just put the receipt on my table. ( assuming a racist behavior ) I'm assuming there's not a whole lot of Asians going to Elmer's? I've owned my own restaurant and fired a cook for using the fry oil to keep the grill looking clean throughout the day, it's a very lazy habit and not very good for the customers eating anything that's been cooked on that grill, anything cooked on that grill will get the fry oil taste transferred onto what ever that gets cooked on there. Your supposed to use water to clean the grill after each order but lazy people will cut corners which result in poor food quality and the long term affect of eating condensed and burnt liquid frying oil. That liquid frying oil is made for deep fat frying like chicken or French fries, it's not a cooking oil. The Mall 205 location doesn't do this and their food is awesome every time, this is the first time trying the Gresham location and the last. Start cleaning the grill the right way and don't use the frying oil that has been used to cook everything from chicken to fries for cooking oil for the grill! Your making your customers sick slowly and wouldn't be surprised if someone already died from medical complications due to eating foods that's been cooked using old frying oil. read more

Elmer's has long been a favorite of mine when dealing with a chain. They are consistently clean and the quality of the food and service always has been top notch. I was sad to have the one closest to me close down, but on my trips to Mt. Hood I enjoy being able to stop here and enjoy a dutch baby on my way. Though I don't get by here often, it's comforting to know it's here when I feel the urge for some good comfort food. read more

This is definitely the better version of IHOP. They have a great variety of breakfast options, and they even have German pancakes! I knew I was going to hiking a bit, so I wanted to carb up. I ordered some pancakes, coffee, eggs, hash browns, and bacon -- basically your All American breakfast. It was exactly what the doctor ordered. The pancakes were super fluffy and buttery! They were fairly large portions as well. I had no absolutely no complaints about the food. Of course, don't go in there expecting extraordinarily unique experience. It is a diner, but it has the basics of what makes a diner great! Good pancakes and good diner coffee is totally acceptable in my book. The service was awesome and the prices were amazing! They served me raw French toast, I didn't eat it. They gave me a coupon for $10 off next meal. When I picked up the coupon I used it, ordering 4 meals. I am a regular and go several times a week. The German pancake I ordered with the coupon had a thick black hair in it....baked into it. When I showed it to Stephanie, rather than apologize and offer me a refund, she got defensive and snapped that it was an accident. Two months later, I found out the staff were told they are not allowed to serve me food. So I called corporate because I feel like that is punishing me for pointing out a problem....not actually taking accountability to resolve it. Corporate called me today to let me know he wrote me a check and I am 86'd from that location. So rather than do better and train their staff on food prep and hygiene, they just ban the person who tries to address it. That's lousy customer service, in my opinion. And gross. Look at their Google reviews....many of them mention undercooked food and food poisoning. How can a restaurant be ok with serving food like that to customers they call to value? This is my second time at an Elmer's. Came back because breakfast was so good the last time I was in Portland. I had the crabacado omelette which is dungeons crab avocado tomato bacon Swiss cheese and chives. I love a place that allows you to substitute fresh fruit for toast. Let me start out by saying I love Elmer's. Any Elmer's I've ever been too has incredible servers. Fast and proficient always with a smile. The food is also plentiful and yummy. The fish and chips are excellent, moist flavorful fish with crunchy crisp batter. Perfect fries and a nice thick tarter sauce with excellent flavor. Chicken tenders are moist, crunchy and come out steaming hot and fresh. Hash browns are thick cut, crunchy in the outside yet soft on the inside. Biscuits are to die for, warm, flaky and soft.
