The grilled cheese and tomato soup were standard, but the Three Sisters vegetarian sandwich was genuinely one of the best sandwiches i have ever had in my life. Very solidly meh. The location was cool, despite being confusing to park at, however the food was on the pricey side and I wasn't impressed with the taste. Like I wouldn't go back except maybe to try an ice cream if I was already nearby. The soup was way too salty, the grilled cheese was bland, and the sauce on the meat tasted like cash and carry. I was really excited smelling the smoker while I waited but the meat wasn't any better than you'd expect at a Red Robin. Our friends highly recommended this spot so we made a point to stop here on our way into Portland. The scenery was beautiful surrounding the drive-in, which also has some indoor and patio seating. They have a nice big parking lot and it was free to park when we went on a Monday. There is a trail and playground nearby so it was nice to enjoy our ice cream after over there. I loved how they had coloring pages and crayons at the counter for the kids to kill some time while waiting for the food! I loved that they had some Asian inspired flavors on the menu which I was not expecting! I kept it simple with a grilled cheese which they serve on a waffle and I also added pulled pork for a small upcharge. The tomato soup pairing was so delicious and it was such a comforting meal in the foggy overcast weather. For dessert, we tried the rainbow brite seasonal sundae, which had these ripe mangoes and ube swirl inside. It was so cute with the little rainbow jellies! The vanilla soft serve itself was really good so I think I would've been happy whether it was a plain sundae or completely loaded like this one. Food: The regular price of their sundaes are about $10 but really $12 once you include the 20% tax. The flavors were good though. We had the Chery Colada parfait which was a vanilla with cherry and pineapple and the Once in a Blue Moon which is a blueberry ube mix. The cuban pork and boriqua bbq chicken sandwhiches were approx $18/$22 with tax and $17/$21. So you can easily spend over $100 for a family of 4 stopping for lunch. No judgement, just letting you know what to expect and you can decide if it's worth it for you. Service: Non existent in the sense that you stand in line order at a window and seat yourself if you can find a spot, your food comes up at a window, and you throw your own trash out afterwards, but they charge you 20% extra on every items. Why not just raise your prices 20% and put a sign that says no tips? I guess employees would earn more money when it's busy on a Sunday but make less when its slow? To each his own. I'm just letting you know what to expect. Ambiance: It's a walk up sanwhich and soft serve ice cream food place in a great location by the Sandy river. We came on a Sunday and it happened to be their Anniversary celebration so they had a dj and they were doing a collab with some burger place. On this day, it was either pulled pork or bbq chicken sandwhich options or the burgers and the sign said food could take as long as 55 minutes in addition to the line that was over 30-45min long. So we opted for their sundae specials for $8 and burgers because we assumed the burgers would be cooked faster while we were still in line for the ice cream. But NO! Despite no line and nothing being cooked when we ordered, the burgers weren't ready until long after we got our ice creams and finished. Burgers were actually a bargain! Only $48 for 3. So that was only $16 each. Parking was awful. Seating was not much better, we were able to find a table to share with others. I had been wanting to come here for years seeing them on IG and here on yelp but don't make it out to Troutdale very often. So I was happy to finally try them out. Unfortunately I don't know if it is always a 1-2hr commitment. Visited on a holiday weekend expecting a long wait but this drive in knows how to handle a crowd! The line is efficient and ordering is easy (especially when everything that you see coming out of the kitchen looks delicious). The pork sliders and Caesar with shrimp were made with fresh and flavorful ingredients and I can't wait to try their next season menu! Make this your new summer spot. Impressed is an understatement when it comes to this place. This is a killer restaurant masquerading as a simple drive-in. My partner took me here on a surprise date and it is one of my new favorite spot! We tried the pulled Porcetta & Harissa sandwiches. Both were incredibly flavorful, creative, and surprisingly high-quality. The soft serve "Larch Mountain" also ROCKED our world. Definitely the best soft serve I've had. Located conveniently off the freeway and on the Sandy River, this little drive in has lots of indoor and outdoor seating. You can drive through and order or stand in line to order. We ordered the waffle grilled cheese with tomato soup (sandwich comes with kettle chips) and the antipasto salad, as well as two giant cookies for later. The food was delish! I don't think I'd order the tomato soup without the sandwich. The salad was a small size--heads up. But the food was plenty for me and the hubs. You can order soft serve ice cream when you pick up your food order (you can pretty much order it all kinds of different ways--they want you to have the ice cream). Being a 40 minute drive from home it definitely took a very specific day for me to want to go here and I finally had the chance to check it out this past week. Unfortunately I would say that I am quite disappointed in what I had here. The sandwich was super oily and didn't have any flavor that really cut the oil. In addition the price was quite high for what it was and they auto included a 20% convenience fee which I did not like. What brought it back a bit for me was the sundae. It was definitely some good soft serve and I would for sure come back again just for that if I was in the area, though it definitely doesn't warrant a long drive back. It was a bit of a wait but our order was long so it's understandable. The Blood Orange sherbet had that great tangy flavor I've been craving so that fulfilled mt sweet tooth. The name is a bit intimidating but the flavor was sweet. As for the Bourguignon, I feel like the chef was previously a sharpshooter/marksman because the food sure hit the spot. I love that the menu rotates! It's nice to try something new and we enjoyed it for the most part. I thought the prices were fair but a few of our group felt it was more expensive for what it was. The waiting was difficult even on a cold weekend day in the winter, as the space is tight and you have to try to find a spot to wait in while the staff go off a waitlist for an open table. The tables outside were cold despite the heater on an especially windy day. But the wait for food seemed less than in the summer (maybe 30 minutes versus an hour plus), as was the line (but it was still popping!). Upon arrival we could see that this was a very popular attraction as the lineup went around the building. They had delicious grilled cheese sandwiches (we got the original, not the fall themed one) and decent cider. The tomato soup was okay. The pulled pork sandwich with slaw was good but a little messy. They give you a little buzzer so you can walk away and then come back for food. Tip: the drive through is basically only drinks and ice cream. If you want any food, plan on going inside. It could be different when you go but while we were there, at least one car reversed out of the drive thru for that reason. Tip 2: bathrooms are in the park and are a bit of a hike, like 3 minutes away so plan for a walk. Tip 3: try to get a spot inside if you have more than one person in your group. This place was hyped up so much that we just had to go. Hubby got a meatloaf sandwich which was really tasty, and had shredded cabbage in it so it had a nice crunch. Very unusual sauce, thick and really, really good tasting and very different. so I would say the meatloaf sandwich was a hit. I got the sweet potato that had miso and Parmesan cheese, etc. in it with bonito flakes on top. What we call sweet potato in New England is different than what they call sweet potato out here in Oregon. This was yellow flesh and different tasting, and very interesting. Though I wouldn't order it again, it was baked nicely. We had to try the ice cream for dessert, so we got three kitty sized. Was good but very expensive. 3 kid sized were $26. Our 3 lunches were also expensive. Everything has 20% added of course. Son got a plant-based sandwich that had squash and vegetables and roasted chickpeas and candied walnuts in it, and it was with some creamy sauce that was kind of yummy. The waffle was buttery, the pork belly was tender & the thinly sliced apple added a nice crunch. Apple Cider Slushie Float with Vegan Pumpkin-Maple ($10 + 2 for pumpkin maple soft serve) - the slushie was too icy. The pumpkin maple soft serve was alright. Bruleed Sweet Potato ($7) - would get again. The potato was so soft & the Parmesan miso butter added a unique taste. The herbs & bonito flakes made it aesthetically pleasing. I came on a weekend and was prepared to wait, yet thankfully despite a line, I received the sundaes in 10 minutes, as they were extremely efficient. I got the seasonal tropic thunder sundae. The vegan pineapple and coconut soft serve it came with was tart, creamy, and not too sweet. I also loved the moist rum cake topping, which were big for cake bites. My boyfriend got the larch mountain sundae complete with the most decadent vanilla and chocolate soft serve. The overall presentation and creativity with the add ons for their sundaes is unmatched.
