BEST Contemporary bike shop around! I bought my early 1990's BMX GT Performer from them when I was a kid in the early 90's-- they rehabbed my bike to almost the exact specs as they could. The owner and staff are SUPER awesome!!! We take our kids bikes there for servicing and accessories. If I could quit my job and just hang around these folks all day, I would. I have an e-bike, and I ride over 5,500 miles a year. I use my brakes sparingly, very sparingly - relatively level ride, and I ride primarily at about 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM when little or no traffic is on the streets, so I do not stop much. I've had the e-bike almost 2 years, now. My first set of front brake pads (O.E.M., hydraulic discs) lasted almost 4,500 miles. Firth and Wilson in Northern Liberties (my go-to E-Bike repair shop) replaced them. They lasted 4,200 miles. Enter "Bumbling-Bustleton Bike Shop!" I'm on vacation on Cape Cod. My BRAND NEW front brakes are trash after 130 miles, metal on metal. The repair shop said, "Obviously an alignment issue, because the metal plates behind the pads (no pad whatsoever remaining) on the right side, and minimal pad on the left side of the rotor) are "arched" so the pads NEVER were properly aligned with the rotor, and warped." My rotor is trashed, gouged by the metal on metal. It gets better. My rear derailleur was slipping, missing gears. When in for the botched brake job, I asked them to check out the derailleur to see what's wrong. Bumbling Bustleton Bike-Shop told me, "The lower gears on the cassette are worn out and so is the chain. Nothing is wrong with the derailleur. You ride so much, it's just worn out." This made sense to me, so I accepted it, and asked them to order a new cassette and fit the bike with a new high-quality chain. They promised to order the gear cassette. They forgot me and the order. It's been over five weeks, now and heard nothing from them. I began thinking, "I ride on level terrain, I very rarely use the lower gears, how could they be worn out? My Cape Cod shop fixing all the damage BUMBLING BUSTLETON BIKE-SHOP did to my brakes just confirmed, "The gear cassette is fine - not worn out. The chain will soon need to be replaced (but not immediately). They thoroughly cleaned and lubricated the rear derailleur and the cable from the rapid-fire shifter, and it's shifting perfectly, now. Let me repeat that - SHIFTING PERFECTLY, now. A coworker has had issues with this shop (never calling back, forgetting about him, etc.), also, and now gets his service in Bensalem. I'm looking at another expensive TREK brand E-Bike, and was considering BUMBLING BUSTLETON BIKE SHOP for the purchase. NOT! TREK, in Manayunk, has my business, now! read more

Friendly service and knowledgeable staff. A team member named Brian helped me select my mountain bike. He arranged to have the one they had in stock built so I could test the size. He and I then picked out the color I wanted on their computer system and he ordered it. It came in fast and was built in just a few days. They even threw in a free t-shirt. Really nice dude. A few days after purchasing my bike a cable for the gears snapped when I was out for a ride. I brought it back and Brian said, "no problem." He had it fixed within an hour... at no charge. A-OK. Not terrible, not great, but so far it's been a decent ride [ha, get it? Ride? Metaphors?] The service is pretty solid and they have the ability to do same day tune ups and the like. They're pretty knowledgeable and can help you get parts that aren't in their inventory. That's where some of the issues come into play, as the time it takes for parts to come in is not exact. I find myself waiting for longer periods than estimated on almost everything I ordered. Perhaps I'm bitching because I've been spoiled by big box stores and Amazon Prime with free two day shipping, but it's definitely a throw back. The actual bike servicing is decent as well, but seems the tune up I received left a couple of things loose as I needed to have someone give it another once over when I was away on a ride. Loose crank at the bottom bracket and a skipping rear derailleur is not a confidence inspiring mechanical issue to have, but nothing extremely serious either. I come in as often as my paycheck affords me, and I'm learning to like the guys there; Josh and Mike are the two who seem in most often and are very nice people to chat with about all things bike, as they are also the chief bike mechanics there it seems. It's tuck away behind the primary strip, near Paddy Whack's and a car wash, and the shop looks like it's in a constant disarray from all the bikes they're building and servicing, but it's a nice place to step into for your bike needs. read more

I went back w/ the bike to get fitted and bought a helmet. I went into this shop based on a recommendation. I was directed upstairs where the bikes were. While looking at the bikes I was greeted by Mike, who I presume owns the place. He was very knowledgable about the bikes and helped me pick the right bike in no time at all. He ordered the bike I wanted and had it the next day. All purchases are final, so the man tried to upsell me into bringing my wheel in to be serviced. I understand that he's a small business owner, but this seemed disingenuous. Ok so first off the address is VERY misleading. This place is not on the boulevard but more like off a side street behind AC Moore. I had an extremely hard time finding this place. I had to call and get directions. The gentleman who answered the phone was extremely helpful however. The place is smaller than it looks in the pictures. It seems more like a bike accessory store than an actual bike store. There were maybe 2-3 bikes actually in the store. The people seem nice and the store was clean. I read somewhere in other reviews that they don't accept returns so they need to work on that. I never experienced an issue with that and my experience was mostly positive. read more

I read the previous negative reviews after I dropped my sons bike off so i didnt know what to expect. My initial impression was positive but I just tried to pick up his bike and noticed they would be closing at 4 so i called ahead to see if i could still get it if i showed up at 4:02. The answer was not helpful, basically, " Try and see. Im not the owner." When your a small independent business going above and beyond goes along way and in this case they are not willing to do that. Door were locked and lights off at 4:02. They could have just said; no we close at 4. There are a few other bike shops in the area and I plan on checking them out in the future. read more

Be careful shopping at Bustleton Bikes. They have a undisclosed no return/refund policy. Watch if they try to sell you on a special order bike if they dont have the bike in stock, you always need to be fitted on the bike before you purchase it. I was looking to purchase a Fuji. Mike the sales man fit me on a Trek 19" that he had in stock. He special ordered me a Fuji which I was un sure about the size as they didnt have that bike in stock. Mike insisted the Trek was the same exact size as the Fuji. Well the Trek he had in stock fit me fine. He ordered the Fuji based on that frame (his recommendation) and when the Fuji came it was too small for me. Bustleton bikes then held me accountable for thier faulty sales men recommendations. I lost $1600.. I recommend if you need to shop here being careful as they seem to not care what they sell thier clients just that they get the sale. read more

I dropped my bike off at Bustleton Bikes to get 2 new tires put on it. That's a 5-minute job. It took them 7 days to do it. I called almost every day, asking about the job's progress, and received different answers each time. On Saturday morning, they said they would do it either that day or on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon when I actually dropped off the bike, they said they would have someone do it on Monday. On Wednesday, they said it would get done later in the week. On Thursday, they said they would do it on Friday. On Friday, they said they were waiting for the tires to be delivered from another store on Saturday. Finally, on Saturday, it was done. I know they were busy, but I also know that they must have been pushing my job to the end of the list day after day. The guy did apologize and thank us for our patience when we picked up the bike, but it was too little, too late. read more

I went in needing a quick chain fix because I was moving out of town. I was hoping they could help me out, but I never should have told them I was moving! When I picked up the bike, the bike salesman said it was fixed and made me sign a waver to get my bike back! He knew he did not fix it, and he charged me $40 anyway!!! SCAM ALERT!!!!! During a time when bikes are impossible to find do yourself a favor and DO NOT give your hard earned money to Bustleton Bikes on 9261 Roosevelt Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19114. My husband was sold a bike that was too big for my son at 4pm last Friday night. Instead of putting him in a bike his size according to the TREK sizing chart they insisted he would grow into it. Well when they got home I barely fit on it and I am 5'8". I tried to call the bike shop to remedy this, but they were closed. On Sat. at 10am I called when they opened and told them the situation. Tom brought the bike in and they took it back and charged him a $72.00 restocking fee. This bike was bought already assembled right off of the show room floor so to charge a restocking fee is ridiculous. I emailed the owner and he didn't respond. I called him on Tues. and he never called back unitl today. He was very condescending and refused to refund all the money. So not only does he have the bike that he can still sell, but he also has almost $100.00 of my money for absolutely nothing!!!!! MY husband said he wheeled the bike right back into the rack. As so called bike experts, they should have been more concerned about putting my son on a bike that fits him, not making a sale. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to have your money stolen from you. He offered me a free bike tune up instead of my money and I told him the bike shop we went to gave us free tune ups so I didn't need that, I just wanted my money back. It's a SCAM!!!! Stopped in first time to have my bike tuned up. Didn't even know the shop was there and found it on google maps. Super clean store... guy who helped me immediately took my bike to give me an estimate. After a few short minutes, after filling my tires with air, adding a little chain oil, checked breaks.. said the bike didn't need anything at all. Very honest! I will absolutely come back her if I need a new bike (plenty of new bikes in the 2nd floor showroom) or an accessories I need for my bike. Definitely be back if it needs any repairs. I went to get my bike checked out, I was told the problem was my back brake and that it will cost $21. When I get there to pick up my bike may be an hour later I was charge $36.75? WOW!!! I've been cycling for years and I've been to many shops in the city mainly because of where I live (southwest), but I've recently moved to the northeast and entered a very clean and inviting environment when I walked into Bustleton Bikes. The mixture of bikes were perfect (bmx,road,mountain,hybrid) the knowledge all the employees had made me feel secure about purchasing a new bike. They didn't pressure me on getting anything and I actually wanted a bike that wasn't my size and they insisted that they order me the right one and not take what I seen. (I never was properly fitted anywhere else) they took there time with me and I felt the love. It wasn't about the sale it was about the continuing relationship for years to come.
