I live right down the road from Butcher Block, and it is a great spot for a quick sandwich, wrap, or breakfast. They also have a variety of meats, prepared foods, and groceries. I recently had a pesto chicken wrap from there, which was delicious! The food was ready quickly and everything tasted fresh! I wish they had more of a grocery selection. Since I work a 9-5, I also find the store is not open when I am off as they close early and are not open Sundays. Overall, great spot on centennial village! read more

This has been my go-to place for about 15 years now. Lunch, dinner, and now that they open at 7am, I get breakfast here as well. Best of all, they started making their own bagels right on premises and got a new coffee bar as well! The staff is great and the heat-and-serve homemade food has been my dinner staple for years. Sandwiches, wraps, salads, homemade soups, stew beef, pork chops, a nice bottle of wine (or beer or maybe something a little stronger) and even an occasional tomahawk steak can all be purchased here. The list goes on and on... homemade heat-and-serve dishes like mac and cheese, meatballs, chicken francese, rigatoni in pink sauce, stuffed peppers, stuffed mushrooms, breaded pork chops, marinated chicken, stuffed cabbage, chicken pot pie. Butcher Block is a fantastic deli in the south side of Cranford. For a couple years I would routinely grab lunch here, and they consistently delivered great tasting hot sandwiches. Normally I'm not a fan of cole slaw but theirs is fantastic, the best I've had. Even though I moved out of town a couple years ago, Jesse in particular still remembers my go-to meal. He and the others are really friendly, even when things get busy during the lunch rush. Speaking of, the line can get pretty long between 12-1pm but it's worth it. It's a small place with limited seating, but most people grab their food and go. There's a small produce section and good selection of alcohol. Side parking lot always has spots available, even when it gets busy. Some people have pointed out that there's some water damage to a few of the suspended ceiling tiles, but I'm pretty sure they replaced them by now. Regardless, looks can be deceiving and Butcher Block has some great food. read more

Butcher Block is a really great local deli. They have sandwiches, wraps, salads, and even panini. Everything I've had there has been great. My go-to wrap is the smoked honey turkey! They have every spread you could want from honey mustard to horseradish mayo. There is also a wide Selection of snacks and drinks, including some alcohol if you need a one stop shop. There is also a small produce area with fruits and vegetables. In addition to sandwiches, they have great prepared salads and some nice prepackaged cookie options if you need something sweet in your day. You can even grab lottery tickets while you're there! The downside is they're closed on Sundays and their current hours are 9-3. So it's not the spot to grab breakfast before work or lunch for work. But if you can make it during the open hours you'll enjoy a great sandwich! read more

This is a fantastic deli. It is not a burger joint with a wait staff to serve you burgers, contrary to a few reviews here. You come for sandwiches, not a sitdown meal. This place is a solid deli with fresh meats and vegetables. The bread during the week is better than the weekend, but that's really a nonissue. If the dirty air vents stress anyone out, I would recommend grabbing a 6 pack from the coolers in the back. I come here every week, and it is always consistent. Butcher Block is a great place to go for sandwiches and hot food. It is family owned and has been serving the Cranford community for quite some time. The Roast Beef and Fresh Mozzarella wrap and homemade macaroni and cheese are personal favorites. Also if you prefer quality meat from a neighborhood butcher as opposed to a supermarket, then I strongly recommend the Butcher Block. The staff at the Butcher Block is attentive to their customer's every need and as a result, I strongly recommend their catering services. Decent place that I stop in for a sandwich on occasion. What gets me is the slow service and long line to get a sandwich. Since my last visit I will avoid this place from 12 to 2 because it takes forever. What slows the line down even more is the owner is so hooked on making profits he makes everyone weigh the meats to be exactly 1/4 lb per sandwich like they can not go a little over by a slice or 2. If you have enough experience making sandwiches you should not have to precisely weigh everything for fear you give someone too much. I also don't know why 25 people wait on a long line here? This place is located within walking distance from my job, great when I Dont have time to make breakfast at home. Just coming off of a 3 week dIet with NO BREADs...I was craving my 2 eggs over medium , bacon(well done) on whole wheat toast with butter and black pepper....I couldn't wait to order, I missed my sandwich. I placed a lunch order online, paid with my credit card so I could just stop in and pick it up. When I arrived they had my order mixed up with someone else's, my charge didn't go through so I had to go through the process again (even though I had a confirming email prior to going there). Then they overcharged me and when I tried to straighten it out, the woman at the register was incredibly rude and nasty. She wouldn't let me finish a sentence and yelled at me "Talk to my boss!". After going there once or twice a month for the last few years they stopped getting my order correct. Today sent me over the edge when I was told a grilled chicken sandwich was supposed to be cold. Why did I bother calling in? Several people get their sandwiches and leave, now at 12:15 she calls me up to pay. One fellow was sitting waiting as well (longer than me) and he eventually stood up as if he had been forgotten about. The place is not the cleanest. I agree with other reviews about the air vents and the unsold items sitting on the shelves. People really only go in here to grab a drink and something from the deli. Tiered of all the reviews for these excellent retail shops that are not true and are so old. Anyway the Butcher Block is my only deli/butcher shop to go to. Always the best and freshest food. Sandwiches are the best and their variety of meat and ready to cook delights have raised the eyebrows of my friends when I serve it to them. If they are out of something, you can ask for it and they do their best to comfort their customers. Don't forget the homemade soups.... I have been a customer of Butcher block for years now, eating there two sometimes three times a week. After what I witnessed today, I will no longer be a customer there. The owner who was helping behind the deli WAS NOT WEARING GLOVES. He started to make my salad and then stops to answer the phone, write down an order then starts to make another salad, grabbing lettuce and then chicken with his bare hands all with no gloves on. WHAT??? I am so disgusted by this and how unsanitary that is to do. That is a health violation right there! I have overlooked how old and run down the place is but now I can only imagine what the back looks like and unclean it is there! I think the health department needs to make an appearance and ensure all employees who are touching food wear a hat and gloves at all times! read more
