Pros: if they can fix it, they will Cons: you have to wait a few weeks! I brought in my iron and cuinart steam oven both of which I couldn't decalcify The iron was fixed in a week with a new chord and thermostat too plus decalcified! The oven took 3 weeks and it's my toaster oven too! So no toast! They told me there was gunk in it and he had to decalcify it and I used the steamer option a lot! So even though the instructions say to do it twice a year for heavy usage, it's obvious you need to do it every month or 2! My exposure to this repair service is for the espresso maker. I generally don't believe in having appliances or electronics repaired unless they are under warranty/ extended service contracts as have had bad experience with getting stuff repaired in the past. We are talking about a fridge going kaput after 6 months of repairs and a washer that croaked after 4 months of repairing. Luckily for this espresso maker I had extended coverage through the credit card so went ahead and tried them. They take there time in fixing stuff so keep that in mind (maybe on site repair is offered for large appliances but I am not sure). My espresso maker had the same issue come up after the first go at it however they fixed it properly the second time and more importantly gave me some proactive care tips (much appreciated). Now I am back to getting my daily caffeine fix with my fav appliance in the kitchen (trusty old Breville Espresso maker). Give them a try if you must have your appliances fixed or are looking for some replacement parts. read more

I got my Breville Juicer fixed. I think the motor was bad. Great service. They explained to me well - what was wrong, and what needed to be replaced. The other day, I called in to get their opinion about my old AC cleaned up, and they explained to me in details some options. Very professional. They also seem to carry some refurbished products, and they know which ones are good as they do repairs (know which ones come back more often than others). read more

This place does do good work, but it takes them a very long time to get your appliance back with little communication. I dropped off a mixer last September to have a gear replaced, and finally received a call back 6 weeks later. They told me they were just getting to the repair, and they'd have to order parts. It took another 6 weeks before they called to say it was ready for pickup. Had I known it would have taken them 3 whole months to repair a gear, I would have taken it elsewhere. read more

I found that Butler's was an authorized repair shop for my brand of coffee grinder. The switch was broken. They repaired it within a few days for a fair price. They did say that in the summer when they are busier, it may have taken a bit longer. A friend told me they also had a good experience with a dehumidifier. Glad to have this place in my neighbourhood. NB They opened on Gerrard in the '20s and have been in their current location since the 40's. It's a cool, old-school shop. read more

My coffee maker decided to stop pumping water on Christmas morning. I too to the internet to see what could be wrong..and how much to replace my machine. Then I remembered seeing Butler's so many times as I drove by...so I called them and had my machine dropped off for me. Machine was taken in December 30th, and with the New Years I was prepared to be without the machine for 2 weeks. Received a call on Friday jan 3rd my machine was done (we had already approved any small repairs) and ready for pick up with a total repair cost of $30.00!! Service was quick and friendly. Butler's Appliance Service provides the worst customer service! I thought that being a family business that it would be a reputable and trustworthy local business. When I called to ask re: the repair for my stove, Craig informed me that the issue was very common and could be fixed however when it could not be done, Butler's did not call me to inform me and both my husband and I had to contact them. Craig was quick to defend himself that the charge to my credit card were for the service call, plus taxes. My complaint is that being experienced in Appliance repair, they should have not wasted my time and money for a discontinued part. I experienced unfriendly service and frustration with Butler's and that is my personal opinion and warning to others as a consumer. Buyer Beware. read more

I was first referred to Butler's by The Maytag Store. 'If you can't find it anywhere Butler's will have it.' I then went through a terrible ordeal with another appliance repair service who, after billing several hundred dollars and a promise to come back to finish the job, seemed to dissapear. So I called Butler's. They came quickly. Provided an estimate and a timeline to get in the parts to repair a refridgerator and dishwasher. Called back, fixed everything and charged exactly as quoted. An absolute rip-off this company is. I called Butler's to come and repair a belt on a dryer. There was a base service call fee of $50 which I had no problem with. I understand it takes their time to come and assess the job. Upon arrival, the technician was not even in the house 5 minutes, did not even open the dryer to look at it, turned it on for about 5 seconds and offered a quote of $350. When I asked to explain what needed to be repaired I was told a blower motor was needed - yet the dryer was blowing and had heat. Then the technician refused to even open the top of the dryer and look in it to show me what needed to be repaired. Said I would be charged more time and money to do that. Then the surprise that another $10 was being charged to just walk in the house. The $50 was just to show up - no assessment of the problem. So $60 and they were not even willing to open the dryer and do any form of assessment. Horrible customer service. The technician got to the point of raising his voice at me in my own house. I would not recommend these people to my worst enemy. read more

I brought an air conditioner in and was told that it would be a quick fix as they had the exact parts in stock. I was also told it might be a $60-90 repair. I left a $25 deposit. Two weeks went by and I did not receive a phone call. I noted on their card that they indicate they are 'not responsible for items left more than 30 days'. I called back and was told that they did not have the part in stock and that it was a costly part, thus they needed my approval to go ahead with work & had been 'waiting for my call'. I was then told the repair would cost in excess of $130. I took a day to think about it and called them back to approve the work. I received no phone call after this point. Another whole month passed and I called them back and was told that it would be ready the next morning & to call to get a confirmation of final price. I called the next morning and was told that it might or might not be ready, despite what I had been told, that it was going to cost $162.58, and that they could not commit to having it ready on any particular day. When I raised the issue that the machine had been in their shop for over 2 months I was told it was off-season so they didn't rush. Meanwhile they could not explain why they had never called me once and how this was supposed to work given that I'd called 3 or more times & could never be given an affirmative that the item had been repaired or when it would be repaired. I became furious, having already rented a vehicle for pickup as I had been told it would be ready (again, after over 2 months!!! and a confirmation!) and when I demanded my deposit back was told no way. This is the worst service I have ever had in my life. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Brought my Breville coffee grinder to be fixed. They informed it would take 7-10 days to fix. Asked them if they would call me if takes longer, they said yes. After 14 days I called and was informed they are still trying to find the part. No apology for not calling me. They informed me they would call me once the part is located. Again, I waited and waited. Called them again only to be told the grinder required two gears, but it can't be fixed due to one of the gears not being available. Here's the real kicker, apparently parts for one of the gears has NEVER been available from Brevilles supplier. WTF? How do you manufacture a product without having repair parts available. Like others, I am so sorry I didn't do more research before using Butler's for a washing machine repair. On the recommendation of my local hardware store, I contacted them to look at an issue with my washing machine. For over a month I have been dealing with a faulty repair, promises from the owners of follow up that never happens, inaccurate stories about the nature of the issue, and the worst experience on a home repair I have ever experienced. My machine is much worse now and they have done nothing to address the issue. I will be filing a complaint to the company and then to the better business bureau in Ontario. As someone who believes in supporting local business, this is a wake-up call to read about the experiences of others. I hope that by writing I have at least saved others the same issue. read more

I took in my Hoover rug cleaner . I was told that it would be done in 7 to 10 days.I was asked to give a $20 deposit. I told the person that I really needed the cleaner at the latest in 10 days. I called in 8 days and it had not been looked at. The person told me that it would be looked at that day and should be ready in 2 days.I phoned back in two days and I was told that it would be a while for the machine to be repaired as a part had to be ordered from the States. I told him I would pick up the machine as It was taking too long to repair as when I bought it in I was led to believe that it would be done in 7 to 10 days. I asked for my $20 back and it was given back grudgingly. I was told that I misunderstood what was originally told to me and that I was not being reasonable. read more

A small problem, or so I thought, but no one else could help. My old, otherwise indestructible pressure cooker wouldn't pressure-cook, because the rubber gasket was toast. They had what I needed, and went to considerable trouble for what was a small ($15) sale. I'm glad I know about them - I may need them again someday! - and I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

As an authorized Brevile dealer, took in our espresso maker to be repaired as it was leaking. Four (4) weeks later, called to see where they were at. (It was in the queue to be fixed). "No sense in ordering a part when we don't know what the problem is". Great, except we waited 4 more weeks (until we dropped by to pick it up as of course, no one called), and were told that it didn't leak. First time we made coffee, it leaked. Did anyone actually use the coffeemaker to see if there would be a leak? Apparently not. Did anyone believe us that there was a problem? Apparently not. What a waste of time. read more
