Blue Rooster Bakehouse - Oberlin, Ohio Driving through…read moreOberlin, I was looking for a good cup of coffee and decided to stop in at Blue Rooster Bakehouse. The menu is written on a chalkboard, and there's a display case showing off all their fresh pastries and treats. I was hoping for something savory, and the barista mentioned the only option was a cheese croissant. It wasn't shaped like a traditional croissant, but the dough was flaky and buttery, filled with jalapeño and cream cheese, and finished with a sprinkle of salt on top -- surprisingly delicious. I ordered a Doppio, which I later learned is a double shot of espresso. It was strong, smooth, and paired perfectly with my pastry. I also picked up a slice of gluten-free banana bread for my husband. They had about four gluten-free/vegan options available, and everything looked freshly baked. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the space itself was cozy, seating around 15 people. However, accessibility could be an issue -- the narrow layout and tight walkway would make it difficult for anyone using a wheelchair to navigate. My total came to around $12, which felt reasonable for a specialty coffee and baked goods treat. Overall, it's a charming little spot with quality coffee and friendly service -- a place I'd return to when I'm in the area and want to splurge a little.

We finally settled on oatmeal cookie (man it's so good), fig/goat cheese/pear pastry, berry pastry, americano, and a chai latte with oat milk. We had a blast eating outdoors at the picnic bench, nice breeze even on an August morning! If we're ever in town again, this will be our Go To spot for sure.

Dubai chocolate destination! This bakery offers seasonal/while available Dubai chocolate varieties…read morewith in-house made ingredients - pistachio cream, chocolate ganache (no clumps), and kataifi. All cups are made to order resulting in better taste. Options on the menu were banana Dubai chocolate cups, strawberry Dubai chocolate cups (single layer or double layer) ($7-15), truffles ($4 each), chocolate bars ($10-20), and jars (pistachio crunch and peanut butter) ($8-10). I ordered Dubai chocolate cup with double layers ($15). The serving was generous but I really felt that $15 is not a reasonable price. I tried Dubai chocolate cups at Middle Eastern events and festivals, so I was comparing my cup to those cups. The ratio of ingredients felt unbalanced. There was almost too much of everything and it overpowered the flavor. The whole thing also tasted very salty which was unexpected. I appreciated the real pistachios in the cup. I wouldn't get it again (due to being too salty and pricey), but it was nice to try once. Aside from Dubai chocolate, they also have seasonal kolaczki - raspberry, blueberry, nut, apricot, cream cheese, apple, strawberry, and cherry ($24.95 per 2 dozen). There's also cupcakery inside with various flavors like strawberry lemon, peanut butter lovers, triple chocolate, and zebra cake. Cupcakes are $4 individual and can be purchased in larger qualities. Any cakes, cupcakes, or other treats can be ordered for pickup at the bakery. Ordered 24/7 online and picked up 7 days a week. The service was pretty good. Employees really wanted to know if customers enjoyed the experience and cupcakes. The interior of the store is no frills - white walls and comfy red booths. The shop is pretty small. Overall, this bakery is a gem for North Ridgeville community where there are not many other bakery/cupcakery around.

I feel like there is something for everyone here! My husband thought the Dutch apple pie was out of this world. I thought it was different because it was chopped oats. We were not a huge fan of the chocolate chip cookies, the texture kinda got me, and the chocolate chips were an interesting flavor. My mom thought the pecan tarts were so yummy. I could literally taste how fresh and homemade that dough was, I thought it was very good as well, but probably would try something else instead next time. The cinnamon roll was interesting because I thought it was a lot more Joey than we used to and it had an icing on top. I actually really liked it. I am not someone that likes the super glazed sweet stuff so this was the right amount for me. My husband and I were not huge fans of the Fry pies. They were glazed, which is a personal preference. But the filling was just too much for me, I like more writing than filling, especially in the middle. It was a little overwhelming. I also felt like they were filled with more of the canned stuff rather than fresh bc of the consistency. The fresh sourdough bread was out of this world. I'd definitely recommend getting a bread loaf!!!

We have tried many baked goods in the area and I have to say the glazed donuts were one of the best I have had. So light, pillowy and full of flavor. I was not so much a fan of the chocolate chip cookies, but my family loved the molasses and ginger cookies.

Donna made us a GF, dairy free [for my lactose intolerance], egg free cinnamon pistachio cake that was one of the best cake/breads I've ever had in my life! With a terrible sweet tooth, I seek out treats in every city I ever visit too-so this is saying a lot! It was the fam-favorite by the WHOLE family, even those who have no allergies. We had homemade brownies, cookies, carrot cake and apple pie as options at our holiday feast, and we still ate Donna's cake in less than a day! It was unbelievably delicious, and I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone! The frosting was also incredible! We also had a regular chocolate Belgian Jim Beam cake that was delicious, but we were all enamored by the cinnamon!

The Avon area is lacking in good bakery options so I had high hopes when I heard about this bakery…read more My mom and I decided to check them out after having lunch at the always lovely Treehouse. The interior is a bit drab. Outside they had an Italian flag, but there wasn't anything Italian inside. We walked in and were surprised to see that there wasn't an obvious display case of goodies right away. The first thing you encounter is the freezer that is full of all kinds of cakes sold by the slice. To the right is another area with breads. In the back is a display case with cookies. The only Italian cookies were Pizzelles and the other cookies didn't look appealing. A definite strength of this bakery is that they offer a large selection of gluten free baked goods. This would be a great option for someone with Celiac disease. Since everything is sold individually it would also be great for providing a gluten free option at a gathering where you don't want to make everyone eat gluten free. My mom and I settled on a slice of Strawberry Cake which was reasonably priced at $3.75. The slice was large enough for us to split. Neither one of us liked the cake or the frosting. My mom tossed her half after a couple of bites. When I asked my mom for her expert option (she has been baking from scratch for longer than I've been alive) on whether it was made from scratch the verdict was that she didn't think so. I really wanted to like this bakery and I especially like to support local businesses, but this just fell flat for us. I would have loved more than one Italian cookie option as well. This area needs a good Italian bakery!
