Love this little ice cream shop! I've visited Butter & Cream before, but my latest visit was a favorite. After spending a sunny afternoon celebrating my besties birthday with her and a few of our girlfriends, we decided to keep the fun going with some ice cream. Never too old for a random sweet treat! Although we were already in the neighborhood, we lucked up on a day when everybody and their mama were outside, which meant limited parking. So we had to pay for parking on this visit, but ended up making it worthwhile by strolling around Decatur Square with our cones. I When we entered, there was one employee behind the counter and they were so kind. There were a few customers in front of us and some behind us in line, so apparently we weren't the only adults in the city who were craving a sweet treat. The store was so cute and covered in art and clocks created with ice cream scoops. We decided to taste a few flavors that were new to us and the employee was so patient with us. We all decided to go with the honeycomb flavor, and I added on a scoop of strawberry because I believe in treating myself. I was bummed that they didn't have sugar cones, but a waffle cone worked. My ice cream was SO good! And they were quite generous with the scoops. As I'm writing this out, I'm wanting a fresh pint of my own again. Butter & Cream in downtown Decatur is typically my go to spot when I am in the area and craving ice cream, so I was excited to try something new on this visit. I ordered the Cookie Monster with toffee cone bits on top. The texture of the ice cream was great, very smooth and creamy, which is exactly what you want. However, the flavor itself just did not come through. It almost tasted like a base without much depth. The only moments of real flavor were when I bit into the cookie pieces or the toffee bits, which were both enjoyable, but the ice cream on its own felt like it was missing something. It is a bit hard to describe because the consistency was there, but the taste simply did not match. That said, I am not writing Butter & Cream off at all. I have had other flavors here that were absolutely delicious, which is why I am willing to give this one another try. Overall, still one of my preferred ice cream spots in Decatur. I am just hoping for a little more flavor the next time I order the Cookie Monster. read more

Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for chunky ice creams. Ice cream: 5/5 I sampled Mimi's chocolate cake and it tasted a little too dry, was looking for sweeter flavors. Went with banana pudding and OG Goodness, and both of them were delicious. Others in my party got cookie monster, as well as a kids vanilla with chocolate chip cookie topping. All flavors were great! The flavors that have mix-ins have a good balance of toppings built in, so the only thing we got on top were sprinkles which were FREE! Service: 5/5 the woman serving us was pleasant and gave me multiple samples, obviously familiar with the menu too. She even put the kids size scoop in a single cup to make room for ample amount of toppings which was kind of her. What a cute and cozy place for a quick dessert! The staff was very kind with letting me get many samples. The ice cream is as the name suggests, buttery and creamy! Really cute parlor. Great spot to grab a sweet treat after having a bite to eat at whichever surrounding restaurant you choose. They do have seating inside a a bench that sits in the front. 3-stars are because there was a very long line and they had younger young ladies working the front and I have to say our young people don't have any urgency about anything lol. I laugh because I have a young person in my home. They weren't rude or nasty at all, just slow motion. I had a small peach sorbet, very good. I would stop in again for sure. My sister opted for a chai ice cream cone with one scoop on a sugar cone, along with a blonde brownie. She couldn't stop raving about how amazing the chai ice cream was--she absolutely loved it! Even though I'm lactose intolerant and didn't get anything for myself, I was tempted to try her ice cream because it looked so delicious. This shop in Decatur promised distinctive flavors. My service experience was not great. I stood around waiting for at least ten minutes without even being acknowledged, which I think was partially due to online orders as there weren't that many people actually there. Eventually, I ended up with a couple of strong flavors, one berry-based sorbet and their version of mint chip, which had kind of a baking chocolate chip and a strong aftertaste but was interesting. It was on the pricey side, though my two scoops looked more like four so I can't say they skimped on portion size. It delivered the promised flavor and their ice cream cookie sandwiches looked nice. This was a good place for vegan and gluten-free needs with a variety of interesting options. They just need to make sure they can keep the line moving. read more

Very Bad Service! I went to Butter & Cream because I heard good things. Unfortunately the staff was very rude. Being new I asked about what they served and was told with an attitude "We only serve what is on the board" all my family's other questions were answered with the same type of response. Ordered my shake and when the server put whip cream on it like I asked her not to, when I mentioned no whipped cream please she had a fit. I wanted to talk the manager but she seemed to had a scowl too. Many of the other customers experienced the same with their orders. Maybe the entire staff was having a bad day but I will not be returning to find out. read more

Came here on a Friday evening, because my go to ice cream spot is Jenni's but I wanted to try something new. There was line out the door which is always a good sign. I ended up ordering a bourbon something with a peach flavor. And honestly it was ok. None of the flavors really popped or stood out they kinda just got lost in each other. The checkout system is different, you have to remember what flavors you ordered and I'd assume for a family of four that might be difficult. It also slows the checkout process down I was halfway through my cup by the time I paid. Some seating, but if it's a busy night like the night I'd came I'd just grab and take a stroll through the area. Parking in the area is terrible. It's best if you can find public street parking because the lots are ridiculous, worse than parking in the city. Overall it's a nice local option. Jenni's is still my number one but if you're in the area give them a try you may pick better flavors than I did or enjoy it more. read more

What a cute quaint ice cream parlor with a handful of unique ice creams. They offer tastings with their adorable metal mini spoons (plus one star for the environment!). The staff were so patient in giving us time to decide and tried their best to fill each cup. I got their chai latte ice cream and loved it. We stumbled on this ice cream shop by chance as we were walking around the area. The flavors here are incredible - I got their Persian Rose and Honeycomb Forest. I've always been a fan of floral flavors, but even my friend who doesn't like a strong fragrance enjoyed the rose. For sandwiches they have 2 selections: butter & cream and vanilla on chocolate chip cookie. I had half scoop of vegan vanilla and plumb blackberry sorbet. I'm not a huge sorbet fan but this joint was amazing! Not too sweet but very delish! I loved the texture, the creaminess and the taste of the vanilla. Also tasted the caramel. Good flavor there too, not overly sweet like I expected and nice creaminess. Street parking is available. We parallel parked right across the street and walked over. Service was great. I tried the Honeycomb Forest: 9 very velvety and sweet Cashew Crème Brûlée: 2 it had a strange after taste Bourbon Peach: 2 the bourbon flavor was there but that peach was not for me I settled with the Og Goodness: 9 if it had a pinch of salt it would've been a 10. It had butter cake in it and it was delightful! The space is cute & perfect size. They had space to sit inside and a small bench in front of the place. I'd recommend trying it out. Is it truly possible that I've never reviewed my favorite ice cream shop in Atlanta?! Say what? I love Butter & Cream. You know why? You can guess by the store's name - this ice cream is truly creamy. I don't normally love ice cream that you have to scoop with a spoon (I'm a soft serve or frozen custard girl at heart). That said, this ice cream is such a great consistency, no matter what flavor you order. They folks working there are nice, friendly, and give you the option to sample flavors. My all-time favorite is butterscotch brownie, which is perfection, but the most recent time I got midnight snacks, which also has pieces of brownie, as well as other types of chocolate within. I like that adults can also opt for the kid's cup/cone, so you can just have a small portion if you're already full from dinner. read more

In all of my visits to Butter & Cream, it's been consistently great! Butter & Cream is a small, popular, well managed ice cream shop on Church Street in downtown Decatur. Parking is always available in paid parking lots and parking garages nearby. Every time I've visited Butter & Cream. the employees are always welcoming, providing smiles to all customers. If you want to sample a flavor, or two, or three (or more), they are happy to provide it to you, and tell you beforehand what's in it. This is not a simple vanilla or chocolate type of place; it has many high quality, gourmet flavors, most of which they try to get from local suppliers. They also don't always have the same flavors readily available. In this shop, customers line up at the back of the store and order at the counter. This is where customers can request samples. Employees hand scoop the ice cream, or make slushies, shakes or floats, and customers pay when they get to the cashier. At the time we visited at the end of May, 2021, Butter & Cream required masks to be worn by everyone and no one was allowed to eat their treats inside. While customers are inside, there are quirky and artsy things/objects on the walls to admire. My personal favorite ice cream flavors are toasted coconut or green tea ginger. The toasted coconut has a nice coconut flavor and crunchy slivers of toasted coconut mixed throughout. The green tea ginger ice cream flavor really stands out because the ginger taste is bold. Ya gotta love ginger to appreciate the green tea ginger ice cream. Whenever I'm in downtown Decatur and I feel like a cold treat, this is my go-to ice cream place, and I don't even consider the other ice cream places in the area. read more

My husband, friend, and I stopped in for ice cream after eating dinner in downtown Decatur. I had seen this spot on Instagram recently, and requested we try it on this trip. I had a waffle cone with "OG Goodness," which is brown sugar ice cream with pieces of ooey, gooey St. Louis butter cake. It wasn't my favorite and it tasted very milky (which is probably most other peoples taste!). My husband had a waffle cone with "Freckled Chocolate," which is classic chocolate ice cream with chocolate freckles, and "Snix," which is peanut butter caramel ice cream with handcrafted nougat caramel peanut bar pieces. He thought the chocolate was better than the snix. I would go again, but I'd try another flavor and get a cup rather than a cone. This local ice cream shop does have some strong competition with Jeni's being within walking distance. As stated in the name, the ice cream here is pretty buttery and creamy. The flavors are categorized as classic, signature, and seasonal. Two of the seasonal flavors stood out to me: raspberry pistachio and chai. Chai is a definite winner. Like many other local dessert businesses that make chai flavored desserts, the chai flavor came from the blends created by The Chai Box, an Atlanta woman-owned business. I have tried and like many of their different chai blends. I hope this flavor is kept in rotation even when the season is over. read more
