What a cute and cozy place for a quick dessert! The staff was very kind with letting me get many samples. The ice cream is as the name suggests, buttery and creamy! I tried an interesting matcha or pistachio flavor? I forgot what it exactly was but it was great. Any time I am in downtown Decatur, I will be here for a scoop!
Small ice cream store with plenty of dessert options, including markers on the menu for gluten containing, nut containing, and vegan flavors! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for chunky ice creams. Ice cream: 5/5 I sampled Mimi's chocolate cake and it tasted a little too dry, was looking for sweeter flavors. Went with banana pudding and OG Goodness, and both of them were delicious. Others in my party got cookie monster, as well as a kids vanilla with chocolate chip cookie topping. All flavors were great! The flavors that have mix-ins have a good balance of toppings built in, so the only thing we got on top were sprinkles which were FREE! Service: 5/5 the woman serving us was pleasant and gave me multiple samples, obviously familiar with the menu too. She even put the kids size scoop in a single cup to make room for ample amount of toppings which was kind of her. Ambiance: seating inside to accommodate a few parties of 3-4, and a long red bench outside that can comfortably fit 3 people.
Butter & Cream in downtown Decatur is typically my go to spot when I am in the area and craving ice cream, so I was excited to try something new on this visit. I ordered the Cookie Monster with toffee cone bits on top. The texture of the ice cream was great, very smooth and creamy, which is exactly what you want. However, the flavor itself just did not come through. It almost tasted like a base without much depth. The only moments of real flavor were when I bit into the cookie pieces or the toffee bits, which were both enjoyable, but the ice cream on its own felt like it was missing something. It is a bit hard to describe because the consistency was there, but the taste simply did not match. That said, I am not writing Butter & Cream off at all. I have had other flavors here that were absolutely delicious, which is why I am willing to give this one another try. Overall, still one of my preferred ice cream spots in Decatur. I am just hoping for a little more flavor the next time I order the Cookie Monster.
Really cute parlor. Great spot to grab a sweet treat after having a bite to eat at whichever surrounding restaurant you choose. They do have seating inside a a bench that sits in the front. 3-stars are because there was a very long line and they had younger young ladies working the front and I have to say our young people don't have any urgency about anything lol. I laugh because I have a young person in my home. They weren't rude or nasty at all, just slow motion. I had a small peach sorbet, very good. I would stop in again for sure. Oh and for the dog lovers, they had Pup Cups.... you're welcome.
I love this ice cream shop. It's small but they have everything from scoops, malt shakes and treats. They even had pup cups for your pets. I got the dairy free vanilla waffle cone and it's honestly the best DF ice cream I've had. And FREE sprinkles too
We stopped in for some ice cream while visiting my brother in law in the area. Cute shop with a nice variety of flavors, with plenty of vegan options as well. However we thought the portion to prices ratio was a little pricier than what we're used to in CT, and while it was good, I thought there definitely could've been more toppings mixed in. The waffle cone was also stale. It satisfied our craving but I think I still prefer Jeni's.
This shop in Decatur promised distinctive flavors. My service experience was not great. I stood around waiting for at least ten minutes without even being acknowledged, which I think was partially due to online orders as there weren't that many people actually there. Eventually, I ended up with a couple of strong flavors, one berry-based sorbet and their version of mint chip, which had kind of a baking chocolate chip and a strong aftertaste but was interesting. It was on the pricey side, though my two scoops looked more like four so I can't say they skimped on portion size. It delivered the promised flavor and their ice cream cookie sandwiches looked nice. This was a good place for vegan and gluten-free needs with a variety of interesting options. They just need to make sure they can keep the line moving.
Great local spot for ice cream. Went with honeycomb forest and it had a nice sweet honey flavor with the texture along with the ice cream being quite creamy and good texture. Flavor here was good and texture was great well. There was only one worker so the wait was a bit long but the service itself was good. It was also nice that sprinkles are free and they had vegan options.

I ended up ordering a bourbon something with a peach flavor. And honestly it was ok. None of the flavors really popped or stood out they kinda just got lost in each other. The checkout system is different, you have to remember what flavors you ordered and I'd assume for a family of four that might be difficult. It also slows the checkout process down I was halfway through my cup by the time I paid. Some seating, but if it's a busy night like the night I'd came I'd just grab and take a stroll through the area. Parking in the area is terrible. It's best if you can find public street parking because the lots are ridiculous, worse than parking in the city. Overall it's a nice local option. Jenni's is still my number one but if you're in the area give them a try you may pick better flavors than I did or enjoy it more.

Solid ice cream spot that even offers free sprinkles! Where can you go wrong with that kind of deal! Staff was very friendly and answered my questions about what some of their flavors and what was in them. Generous portions and the ice cream was very good! I can't recall the name but the ice cream I chose had cake pieces, cookie dough pieces, and brownie pieces! The store isn't overly large but they do have some seating inside for those hot nights and a bench outside to sit on as well! read more
Great ice cream spot in Decatur. Definitely try the OG Goodness. It was creamy, rich, and packed with flavor without being overly sweet. Easily one of my favorite flavors, and I would order it again. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the shop has a nice neighborhood feel to it. It's a great place to stop for dessert while walking around downtown Decatur. There are plenty of flavors to choose from, but the OG Goodness is definitely worth trying. Would happily come back the next time I'm in Decatur. read more

The service was incredible, I was able to try a couple of samples before I landed on this ice cream. It was one of the best flavors I've had, it had little pieces of carrot cake and the flavor was just so yummy. Can't wait to come back ! read more

He allowed me to sample few flavors but I ended up going with his recommendation of the honeycomb forest and the OG goodness. Both flavors were sooooo good alone and together. He was absolutely pleasant and honestly the reason I left with my scoops. Will definitely be back! read more
Yeah, sure, there was a line, but it is just the testament to the amazing ice cream that is available within this local ice creamery. The have a fun selection of flavor offerings and are happy to let you taste a few to make sure you choose the right one. I went for a classic mint chocolate chip which was sublime. I was pleased with my flavor choice and grateful that they even have a mini-sized scoop, which was perfect for me! I'd go back in a heartbeat!! read more

Ice cream on a summer night always hits the spot. Service was quick and friendly even during closing. staff were friendly and allowed me to sample the flavors. They serve your samples with metal spoons, so that's pretty friendly for the environment if you're into that. They serve a multitude of deserts, ranging from ice cream, sorbet, cookies, cakes, so on. I did a two scoop cup of honeycomb Forrest and chocolate PB chunk. The chocolate and the honeycomb go really well together. read more

Best butter pecan I've ever tasted. And I consider myself a connoisseur. Free sprinkles! Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Very patient with my daughters and nieces as we sampled. Cute little shop that smells like waffle cones. I can't wait to go back! The hot fudge was very rich, so I can't wait to go back and taste the butter pecan without any additions. We stumbled on this ice cream shop by chance as we were walking around the area. The flavors here are incredible - I got their Persian Rose and Honeycomb Forest. I've always been a fan of floral flavors, but even my friend who doesn't like a strong fragrance enjoyed the rose. The honeycomb was so rich and sweet -- you could see and taste the chunks of honeycomb. I sampled some other flavors and tried my friends' & everyone highly recommend their ice cream. My same group literally came again a few days later because the ice cream here is THAT GOOD! read more
My family's favorite place to enjoy ice cream honestly. Though this location can get quite busy, it moves along quickly and before you know it you're ordering. There is limited seating, however that's their charm to downtown Decatur because walking around with scoops of Butter& Cream in hand just hits different. Try it. Who doesn't love ice cream?? I imagine there are some, but not this chick!! A good deal of flavor options for scoops of ice cream. You can get it in a cup, cone, dipped cone, waffle cone or GF cone. Buy it by the pint, quart, or half gallon! They also have milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, floats and slushies. If you're a pup parent, they have a cup for your love too! All bases are covered. 6 vegan options available: vanilla, dark chocolate sorbet, strawberry sorbet, plum blackberry sorbet, mimosa sorbet and caramel. For sandwiches they have 2 selections: butter & cream and vanilla on chocolate chip cookie. I had half scoop of vegan vanilla and plumb blackberry sorbet. I'm not a huge sorbet fan but this joint was amazing! Not too sweet but very delish! I loved the texture, the creaminess and the taste of the vanilla. Also tasted the caramel. Good flavor there too, not overly sweet like I expected and nice creaminess. Street parking is available. We parallel parked right across the street and walked over. Service was great. Inside seating is available if that's your jam. Can't wait to come back! I'd like to try the vegan sandwich with vanilla on chocolate chip cookie. read more

In all of my visits to Butter & Cream, it's been consistently great! Butter & Cream is a small, popular, well managed ice cream shop on Church Street in downtown Decatur. Parking is always available in paid parking lots and parking garages nearby. Every time I've visited Butter & Cream. the employees are always welcoming, providing smiles to all customers. If you want to sample a flavor, or two, or three (or more), they are happy to provide it to you, and tell you beforehand what's in it. This is not a simple vanilla or chocolate type of place; it has many high quality, gourmet flavors, most of which they try to get from local suppliers. They also don't always have the same flavors readily available. In this shop, customers line up at the back of the store and order at the counter. This is where customers can request samples. Employees hand scoop the ice cream, or make slushies, shakes or floats, and customers pay when they get to the cashier. At the time we visited at the end of May, 2021, Butter & Cream required masks to be worn by everyone and no one was allowed to eat their treats inside. While customers are inside, there are quirky and artsy things/objects on the walls to admire. My personal favorite ice cream flavors are toasted coconut or green tea ginger. The toasted coconut has a nice coconut flavor and crunchy slivers of toasted coconut mixed throughout. The green tea ginger ice cream flavor really stands out because the ginger taste is bold. Ya gotta love ginger to appreciate the green tea ginger ice cream. Whenever I'm in downtown Decatur and I feel like a cold treat, this is my go-to ice cream place, and I don't even consider the other ice cream places in the area. read more
My husband, friend, and I stopped in for ice cream after eating dinner in downtown Decatur. I had seen this spot on Instagram recently, and requested we try it on this trip. I had a waffle cone with "OG Goodness," which is brown sugar ice cream with pieces of ooey, gooey St. Louis butter cake. It wasn't my favorite and it tasted very milky (which is probably most other peoples taste!). My husband had a waffle cone with "Freckled Chocolate," which is classic chocolate ice cream with chocolate freckles, and "Snix," which is peanut butter caramel ice cream with handcrafted nougat caramel peanut bar pieces. He thought the chocolate was better than the snix. I would go again, but I'd try another flavor and get a cup rather than a cone. I would try the "Tahitian Vanilla" or the "Butter Pecan" next time! read more
