Stopped in to try this cute new ice cream shop based out of New York, and I think they check all the boxes for what makes a good ice cream shop (variety of unique flavors, vegan options, milkshakes, sundaes, and toppings). However, the shop wasn't the only thing they brought down south, they definitely came with New York prices too lol. Pricing: While they have a variety of really unique flavors, the pricing is slightly higher than what you'd expect at a comparable ice cream spot. Plan to spend around $8-$10+ depending on your scoop count (1, 2, or 3 scoops), plus $1.25-$2 per topping. Also note: they're cashless and only accept contactless payments. Food: There were so many flavors that I honestly struggled to choose. I ended up with Mango Sticky Rice and Honeycomb. Both were good and creamy, but a little too sweet together. I sampled the Passionfruit Sorbet too, which was super tart, but in the best way. I actually wish I wouldn't went with that one, and think it would've balanced out the mango perfectly. Inside: The shop is super cute, bright, fun, and inviting with a retro-modern feel. There's a row of bar seating and one group table inside. Heads up to all my 30+ folks: the bar stools have zero back support, so don't get too comfortable lol. Outside seating is available as well, and since it's located in Ponce City Market, you can also take your ice cream to their indoor seating areas. Service: Service was great. The staff was friendly, encouraged us to try any flavors we wanted, and gave thoughtful suggestions/opinions on several of the flavors we were interested in. read more

I've been here two separate occasions and both times were so enjoyable ! I really love this brand - it made me believe that there's a way to have creamy delicious vegan ice cream and not compromise texture - Jenny I'm taking about you ahem! I've been going to van Leeuwen since I lived in NY and I'm so happy we have a location in Atlanta. The vegan flavored are so good, the staff here is kind and they do not rush you with choosing a flavor. Now- those plastic spoons - guys I literally cut the sides of my mouth using them. The spoons are deep and a bit sharp (I know it's a round edge but pls.) be careful if you decide to get a cup, but hopefully they've since gotten better spoons. We have enjoyed pints of Van Leeuwen ice cream from our local grocery store for a while now. We were excited when we saw that a physical location opened and we could taste some other flavors. We'd come to PCM for dinner one weekday evening, and my husband decided he wanted some ice cream for dessert. There were only two young ladies inside when we walked in, which was nice. The young lady working behind the counter let us know she'd be right with us, so we had a few minutes to take a look at the options. It's so cute in here. All the bright colors are just what you'd expect in an ice cream shop but a change from most places. I didn't really want any ice cream, but the employee was more than happy to let me taste the pumpkin cheesecake, which was delicious, and another flavor that I can't recall right now. She also mentioned that she thought the pumpkin cheesecake would be great in a milkshake. Once my husband had his order, we found a spot outside for him to enjoy. He ordered a scoop of peanut butter brownie honeycomb with a scoop of cookies & cream. I tasted his peanut butter brownie honeycomb, and it's a must if you're a fan of PB and chocolate! --Shout Out-- Shout out to Allie and Emily for interacting with us waiting in the hot and humid outdoors --Location/Parking-- In the new building of Ponce City Market, located across from West Elm. Parking is in the same vicinity as Ponce City Market. --Ambience-- Similar to an ice cream bar with seating for maybe 10 indoors. There is an outdoor patio that is shared with several buildings. --Service/Staff-- Allie was awesome in talking and interacting with us waiting outside. Everyone was fast and efficient in getting through the long line. It is ice cream season. --Products-- Delicious mouth watering soft ice cream. I believe this is a chain, but could be the first in Georgia. I feel like I am cheating on Jeni, but this was absolutely worth it. Cookie and Creams was my choice. It was so perfect for such a hot morning. --Capacity-- This is more of a boutique. Because of the elaborate display. I don't recommend more than 5 people inside the store and for the tour. --Overall-- One of my new go to spots for ice cream. I had visited a location in New York and was really excited to see one opened in atlanta! This is in Ponce city market but a building next door to it while still being in "property" so you will need to find parking at the market. Upon entering you are greeted by a really Colorful shop with a really friendly staff. They were patient and willing to let us sample flavors. I sampled pistachio and ice cream cake and it was so good I decided to get two scoops of it! The staff were really friendly and the whole aesthetic of the shop was so colorful and cute. Came for ice cream after seeing this place open up at ponce ! I enjoy their pint ice creams and wanted to check this place out. The service was not as friendly as I hoped for, they didn't seem very friendly when we were asking to sample an ice cream flavor and we had to look around and ask someone. The cherry flavor was good but the vegan cookies and cream ice cream was okay. Also, that was the only amount of vegan ice cream we got. There was no more to the vegan cookies and cream scoop. Van Leeuwen is amazing! It's my favorite ice creams shop and I'm so happy that they opened one in Atlanta! Every time I head to New York, I always stop for my favorite flavor (Earl Grey Tea). I'm happy to see I don't have to travel too far now that they're in ATL! For their grand opening, they served $1 scoops and greeted everyone with a smile and positive energy! I had the opportunity to meet Ben, one of the founders, and he was such a delight! You really can't go wrong with any flavor, so I recommend trying a few before making your choice. I look forward to visiting again soon! The flavors are delicious and unique. The storefront is always bright and inviting and, most of all, ice cream is good for the soul! Van Leeuwen is always my favorite ice cream brand so when I'm near one I have to go! The workers let me sample several flavors and were very patient while I decided on my order. I went with the gooey butter cake flavor with chocolate hazelnut sauce, and that sauce was so good! I expected it to be like Nutella, but it had chunks of hazelnuts in it and was a more fudge-like texture. The inside is very clean, cute, and has some seating as well. read more

I've been here a few times and service is always good! If you go once Ponce is closed you can park on the side for free which is awesome! They have unique flavors and some seasonal too! We have had their ice cream from the grocery store and was excited for a brick and mortar location. The space is brand new and very welcoming with bright colors, off to the side of Ponce City Market (not inside). We got there and there were only a few people there. We sampled our hearts out with their metal spoons and landed on the brown sugar cookie dough brownie with the dark chocolate curls. After getting our ice cream, there was then a huge line! We beat the rush. We had our choice of the indoor bar seating along the window, the few tables inside, or the tables outside. We went to the bar so we could look out and people watch, but there wasn't much. They also sell their pints here that are the same as in the grocery store, but way marked up. read more

We made the 1.5-mile late-night trek here after a concert at the Fox Theatre, and I would absolutely do it again! I've been wanting to go to a Van Leeuwen ice cream shop for quite some time now, and they surpassed my expectations. The workers were so nice and patient as I requested sample after sample. The inside was colorful and clean, and the ice cream menu was very big. I ordered a scoop of the Marionberry Cheesecake and the Peanut Butter Brownie Honeycomb in a waffle cone. While it's a bit pricey, I'd say it's worth it. The ice cream is high quality, and they don't skimp on the scoop sizes. I'll be back next time I'm in Atlanta. read more

I love VL ice cream especially their earl grey flavor. Strong tea flavor and very creamy and smooth. This store is very new and is located at ponce city and they have a huge variety of flavors to choose from. Today I got the mango sticky rice and the brown sugar brownie flavors. Friday Urban Picnics is run by the Atlanta Street Food Coalition, and held every last Friday of the month from March to October, 11-2pm. Location is the back of Sweet Auburn Curb Market. At today's picnic, I arrived around 11:45 and lucked out with finding a parking spot. Lines were very short too - but that all changed after 12. Good Food Truck and Yumbii were probably the most popular. Westside Creamery, The Pop Shop (or maybe it was The Pop Stop), and Black Tie BBQ were there, too. I think almost all items were under $10. Today I had Good Food's $5 Poodle which was to die for: French Toast hot dog bun, beef dog, apple maple slaw, ... and then they strongly encourage you to add maple syrup and spicy mustard. Whoa that was really yummy - messy to eat though and I had sticky fingers afterwards from the maple syrup but no complaints from me :) Next time I'm trying one of their savory cones filled w/ all kinds of goodies! The Indian rice crispy treat sounded intriguing, too (curry, coconut, and candied fennel seeds)! For dessert I had a $3 generous scoop of Westside Creamery's bourbon & bacon ice cream. Just a hint of bourbon flavor and surprisingly thick pieces of bacon throughout - honestly I was expecting bacon-infused flavor but my bad for expecting anything else but the real thing!! They had some great flavors to choose but I went with bourbon & bacon since the Westside guy said it was his favorite. I've already marked my calendar to make a field trip to the next several picnics b/c there are too many new things to try! Some tips: Bring cash. If you're lucky enough to find parking in the Sweet Auburn parking lot, it's free w/ validation - look for the table outside that validates tickets. Otherwise make a purchase inside to get parking validation. When I was driving back to work, I also found free parking available under the interstate - free for the first 90 minutes.

City councilman Kwanza Hall showed up sportin' a Fixie bicycle which is a local bike shop by husband and wife team Mikel and Pinky. Parking was easy and free on the street or you could park in the Sweet Auburn lot but it looked packed. If you couldn't come this time next time bring a hungry belly and an adventure to try new delights. I'll definitely be supporting local food again at Urban Picnic.

It came with a flaky and fresh homemade biscuit and was a great breakfast with just a touch of hot sauce added. It's not a great spot to walk too early in the morning from a local hotel. We met a character on the street who told us to "watch out for the crazies in the area". That said, we didn't feel unsafe, but it would have been preferable to drive or scooter to the market. There was plenty of parking and uniformed security on site. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helped with meal suggestions.

The space is pretty tight, and you're going to be close to the tables near you, but we were able to sit comfortably. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders, and afterward she came back to answer any questions. Most of the food was ready at the same time. We appreciated that it came out as it was ready and wasn't left sitting. And everyone enjoyed the food! The only "complaint" one of my friends had was that she thought there was a little too much sauce in her shrimp and grits dish. She felt that the sauce, while it tasted great, overpowered the dish and she would've liked to taste more of the grits flavor. All in all, I'd say we'll likely be back to try something else on the menu.

The line was long and this will likely be the case a lot of the time so this doesn't work well. My daughter had a special order of beef taquitos that had to come out later so you know her sides were cold. When she requested new sides or to warm them up she was met with an attitude by one of the workers so that didn't go over well. This was weird to us because the food shoud be warm at the very least, so customer service was lacking there but they did honor her request. If they are going to keep this cafeteria line style setup, we all thought the meats and entrees should be first and then sides so as to avoid having lukewarm or cold sides because all four of us had cold sides by the time we sat down after getting get our drinks and sauces and stuff. And sides should come out together with the special orders so the food is not cold. But hey, I know I'm not Lewis, but yall got my two cents anyway Overall, we had delicious food in a nice, clean establishment. And on the plus side, the Beltline is literally a few steps away!
