Completely Upset regarding Management at Butterfingers. I purchased a chicken salad sandwich at the Crown point location that was made at either the Highland or Munster location according to management in Crown point. According to management at Crown-point, she stated that they use chicken breast not skinless and unfortunately sometimes maybe a piece of the bone or Cartlidge may have been left by accident. Well, apparently that's what happened with me. I ate a chicken salad sandwich from the Crown point location, that was all I ate that day. I unfortunately ended up with a foreign body lodged, possibly a bone in my esophagus, and when I contacted the manager at Crown point, she didn't seem to be too concerned. I even stated that I may end up in surgery, I explained I didn't want this to happen to somebody else and that they may wanna pull the rest of the sandwiches off the shelf, The only thing she stated was that she would contact the Highland and Munster store. I then asked her if she wanted my phone number to get a hold of me, she did not seem too concerned. She took my number and to this day I have not heard from anyone its been 6 days. I consistently buy cakes From the Highland location, this was the first time I was in the Crown point location. I purchased a Carrot cake for Easter and it was the first I ever purchased a chicken salad sandwich However Mistakes like that should not happen... I pass this bakery all the time so I decided to give it a try and it was not what I thought it was going to be. I ordered a wrap and the gentlemen who took my order also made the wrap. So after handling cash he made a wrap without gloves. I really am astonished at the good reviews for this place. Those people are either shills or live in a food desert. The chicken salad is tasteless, consisting of dry chicken breast swimming in mayo. Ever heard of salt or seasoning? Guess not. The cheesecake was the worst I have ever tasted with terrible texture, no flavor and a topping that must have been plain sour cream. After one fork I said no thanks and moved on. The cupcake I tried was a step up merely being just poor but not offensive. Same thing with the tuna salad which I bought also. Maybe I'm a little biased because I work in Chicago where they know about good food, but I could give you a half dozen deli's in Chicago that make a better chicken & tuna salad than this place. I went to Butterfingers for lunch with coworkers. There were two large display cases forming an L and about 5 round tables with seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Taking up about 60% of the display cases were their desserts - cakes, cookie bars, etc. I was dissapointed that a majority of their cakes were sold as entire cakes and only there were only slices available for 2 cakes. The slice of cake I did have was good, though. They have one long display case of lunch food, most of which comprised of salads (macaroni salad, chicken salad, etc.). I ate their breaded chicken, which was excellent. They did have a sandwich menu, which was pretty basic. Their small crescent rolls were average. Butterfingers could benefit from offering more creative sandwiches and coffee-shop type items to eat. They almost have it right, they just need a little creativity. read more

Used to go there all the time when we lived closer. I don't remember customer service being this awful. Just very unhappy looking people work there. Sad. Food was excellent years ago. Today it was just average. I had Tuna on croissant and it was just ok. What confused me the most was sweet pickle instead of the dill pickle. I kinda expected a dill pickle on my sandwich. They need to specify that. Some peoples really dislike sweet pickles. All the salads had mayonnaise on them. Nothing healthy was offered besides fruit salad. If it wasn't for the price of everything at this deli, the stars would be higher. They've always got something good on the menu, but you have to get there early--or it'll be gone by the time you arrive. Great salads--chicken and seafood are my faves. I love this cute little shop! They have amazing desserts. What I love is that a lot of the frosting they use isn't over the top sugary tasting. We stopped in the other day for lunch and I had the Almond Chicken Salad on a Croissant. Sooo good! We also got some of the broccoli cranberry salad on the side. It was great. My sister in law and I stopped there and had a bite of lunch. The shop was nice enough, we both ordered a sandwich. Mine was all veggies, stacked high and slathered with basil pesto. I as actually quite enjoying it until my 2nd to last bite when i bit down on something HARD. I fished it out of my food filled mouth and found It was the sharp tine of a plastic fork. There were two customers in the shop purchasing their apparently famous chicken salad and assorted pastries, so to avoid embarrassing the staff, I waited until they completed their transactions and left the store before approaching the register. I explained what had just occurred and the first reaction was, Did you get that off the table?? I explained NO! And I didn't order a side, and had no fork either. My sister in law had a metal fork with her meal. She got the woman from the kitchen who proceeded to examine the plastic and question where it may have come from, eventually comparing it to the plastic forks they use in the restaurant and reluctantly admitting it matched. Then I was assured they only use metal implements to assemble the food and was even shown the tongs used to fish out my pickles. All I can say is LOOK, be that as it may, SOMEONE at SOME POINT managed to get a piece of broken fork into the veggies or ingredients. I suggest you look over your veggies. The apologies were all laced with a big "BUT" I don't see HOW this could happen, and barely any I'm so sorry there was GARBAGE in your FOOD. In the end I just told them, look, I"m just really GLAD i didn't swollow that! And we left, because that was all they had to say about it. So, was my sandwich good? I don't recall, my stomach clenched at the garbage in my food, and the reason I won't go back, is because they could't just take full responsibility for the mistake and apologize. As if I should have to convince them it happened and try to walk them through HOW it was possible! read more

Amazing food, shockingly bad customer service. A birthday cake is a special thing, and since their reputation is so high, I was excited to order a Butterfingers cake for my daughter's second birthday. I drive to the Munster location, just a few blocks from my house. They don't take birthday cake order there, ostensibly because the baker is across town at the other location, and even worse, the cake you order can't be delivered there. I'm annoyed, but they're supposed to be so awesome, so I trekked to Highland. And there I found a huge line and an ordinary clerk (NOT a baker) to take my order. At least 25% more expensive than anyone else in town, only two types of cake, one type of frosting, and only flowers for decoration (nothing else, like the simple rainbow I asked for. And then they refused to let me taste a sample, saying they just didn't do that. So we left, and went to Jewel, where we DID get a sample, a free cookie for my kid, and a beautiful white cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream frosting, and a rainbow! I love their baked goods - LOVE them - but for that kind of money I expect a little more that I didn't get. So no more Butterfingers for this family. read more

Their service is the worst. I've been trying for 3 days to get in touch with the Highland location (where all the food is made) to place an order for this weekend. They have 1 phone line, no voicemail and no way to send a message electronically. I call and call and call and just get a rapid busy signal. I finally called the Munster location, but they aren't allowed to take the orders. All they can do is "try" to get in touch with Highland and have them call me back, but after 3 days I still haven't heard from anyone. Apparently they will only let you place an order if you're able to go in personally to their location (where they can't ignore you). I'm giving up and will go elsewhere. read more

I've grown up eating pastries and deli goods from Butterfinger's. Over the years, I noticed a dip in quality specifically with the baked goods. The brownies have become coyingly sweet and many of the cakes are coated in so much frosting that it's impossible to taste any flavor except for just sugary sweetness. I still do enjoy certain items such as their double chocolate mousse cake. Their deli goods such as chicken salad are delicious, but slightly overpriced. I would recommend going early to get a fresh loaf of dill bread or wheat bread! Overall, still a nice local place to get a light lunch or something sweet. read more

This place is delicious. It's a refreshing break from the constant flow of chain restaurants and food that all tastes the same. They make everything fresh, and put their own unique twist on classics.
