It has been some time since I visited. We stopped in this past Friday to what used to be a nice place to have breakfast. 1 Denver omelet, 1 bowl of oatmeal raisin toast and 1 cup of coffee $29. Coffee was $4. First ever for me. Oatmeal $8 and $2.5 for raisin toast and another $15 for an omelet. Completely price yourself out of my market. Food was good. Waitress was also kind But prices are out of line. $4 coffee? I will go to Sophia's in Michigan city if I'm going to spend this kind of money. Decent cafe, but room for improvement I ordered the pumpkin zucchini muffin, which was flavorful but had a doughy texture and was so crumbly it completely fell apart when I tried to cut it. For my meal, I went with the soup and sandwich combo. The chicken salad sandwich was passable but bland. Yhe chicken lemon rice soup was very disappointing--it lacked any real flavor at all. My child ordered the pancake and scrambled eggs, and unfortunately, the eggs were overcooked while the pancake was undercooked. Hubby, a Navy veteran, and I met our son for breakfast/lunch on Veterans Day. I'm a fan of, and ordered eggs benedict, hubby ordered the 2x2, and our son a super omelette. I was a little disappointed with the eggs benedict, but both boys enjoyed their meal and both got refills on their drinks. Our waitress asked about military service. The noise level was fairly quiet, the few there friendly and the service not overly attentive. The prices are fairly reasonable and the dining area clean. My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the town where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we ate most meals out. Susie's Cafe was the last of them. We ate our last breakfast before heading to Chicago to fly home here. My wife's brother is crazy about their cinnamon rolls, so we wanted to go there to tell him what he missed. We did indeed have a very large cinnamon roll that all of us shared. I was not as impressed with it as the others were. However, I will say that the icing they put on it was the best I've ever had on a cinnamon roll. For me, the piece of the roll I ate was a little too dry. I wasn't in a breakfast mood. That was probably a very bad thing. I opted to order off the lunch menu. As many of you probably know, meatloaf is my absolute favorite food. And, although I never expect it to be "fantastic" like my wife's at home, I often make the mistake of ordering it in restaurants. This was one of those mistakes. It was served as an open-faced sandwich on top of two very nice pieces of white bread and beside a healthy pile of mashed potatoes. The gravy on all of it was delicious! The side of canned corn was actually quite good, as well, after they doctored it with seasoning and butter. The meatloaf was not horrible. But, it wasn't good either. I wasn't in the kitchen to watch them make it, but it looked like they put everything in a blender, pureed it, poured it in a pan, and baked it. It was a very dense slab of brown stuff that actually looked like fried liver to me. It tasted okay, in an over processed kind of way. I would NEVER order it again. My venture into the meatloaf made me think that this is pretty much a microwave heat up kind of place, except for the made to order breakfasts and baked goods that other people are probably smart enough to gravitate towards. My wife's breakfast sandwich looked and, according to her, tasted great! My sister in law's omelet also looked really good. Would I go back here? Yes, but I would stick to the breakfast menu. The food is just okay nothing special. Service is good. Been going here for years and recently we have been disappointed. The food nothing special and what really irritated us was the surcharge for eggs. I got it when eggs were at their peak but it has come down and they are still charging. Also $.50 per egg is ridiculous. When I brought up the extra charge they said everyone is doing it's. No this is the only place In town doing it. On top of that I asked for sourdough bread and they charged $1.50 more for one slice. If the food was exceptional maybe but not what we received. read more

My dad has always stopped in here to bring us their giant cinnamon rolls, and so he took me here the day before I had to head back to Connecticut for some sweets to bring back with me. Great customer service, I sadly have to give it a 4 though because the girl wasn't careful enough and put my box of cupcakes underneath 2 very heavy giant cinnamon roll boxes and smushed them. I didn't get a chance to try the famous cinnamon roll but otherwise it was a great experience. I had a corned beef hash and Swiss omelette with hash browns and sourdough toast. Sourdough was tasty. Hash browns were crisp, but the omelette was ok. Tasted like they use the Kraft singles type of American Swiss cheese and not real Swiss cheese. Wish I had known or if real Swiss was an option. The corned beef hash was fantastic though. Coffee was a little subpar. Could have been old or could have been the fact it was about an hour before close. I hate to be that customer who comes in before close but the place was packed when we arrived. Service was fantastic and I wish I could remember the gentleman's name who served us. Suzie's is close to my house, and we come here a couple of times a month. We came for lunch and the parking lot was packed, but inside we were seated right away. The server we had was wonderful, she was very nice and helpful. I ordered the open-faced turkey sandwich, and you can tell right away the turkey is roasted in the restaurant. The slices were thick, like they were hand carved. The amount of meat was good, and it was served on two slices of white bread with mashed potatoes, corn, and gravy. The mashed potatoes were creamy and good, and the corn was flavorful. The star of the meal was the gravy, it was delicious. I feel the prices are reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. I highly recommend Suzie's Café. read more

Susie's is a surprisingly large place. The aaa staff was spot on with service. They have a nice large dinner counter as well as lots of seating. I had the biscuits scrambler, which is 1 biscuit with scrambled eggs and gravy. Sadly the gravy is a hard pass. Light white and flavorless with little to no sausage. The scrambled eggs were fine, light and fluffy, but covered with gravy kinds of killed it. The biscuits seemed fresh and was good. Overall I would come back and try something new.
