This golf course is fine for what it is. I played there today, and the pace of play was quite slow. This is because during the week, the course is played by a lot of elderly men, who aren't particularly good at golf. It is also played by golfers who aren't particularly good at golf. They play there because it's forgiving and cheap. The website says that if you were walking during the weekday, the rate is $15. The website is four years out of date. It is $22 to walk on a weekday. FYI. For the most part, the course was in good condition. They just aerated the fairways, so you should be aware of that. Bring a wet towel to wipe your club heads. This really is no frills golf. It is a nine hole golf course. I gather that Sterling is the golf course manager. They manage several courses, so I don't think this course is a focus of theirs. In fact when I was on the third or fourth hole, a member of the greens staff showed up and changed the pin placement while I was standing on the Teebox waiting to hit. That function should've been done at 6 AM this morning not at 10 AM when that person change the pin placement. There are better courses in the area that may be more money for nine holes, but maybe also a better experience. In my experience, cheap golf courses attract inexperienced or just plain bad golfers. That means play will be slow. read more

If you have not been to Maynard Golf Course in the last 3 months, there is no way you can give it an accurate review. I was told by the locals that just in the last 2 years the course conditions improved drastically - and I must say - awesome. Fairways are pretty darn nice, rough is perfect, bunkers well cared for and the greens are velvet. Noticed new tees on 2 holes and simply loved the course. Buffalo wrap and a cold beer afterwards made the day. On vacation from Texas and playing as many Sterling Golf Managed Courses as I can. read more

Was excited to golf here after reading reviews. Unfortunately my experience didn't match. To start with the pros - the staff were wonderful, for $25 greens fees (+$10 cart) it was reasonably priced, and pace of play was great - went out at 9:40a on a Sunday morning with a buddy by ourselves and didn't face too many traffic jams (finished in about 2 hours overall). But the greens were in ABYSMAL shape - large patches of bare dirt on several greens. How are you supposed to putt? Also, the holes were absolutely on top of each other. At one point, I think the 5th hole maybe, I had an approach shot onto a green with 2 tee boxes and another green all within a 20 yard radius and a ton of people gathered around. Hard to think about being aggressive and going for green when a slight mishit will mean certain death for another golfer! I can understand in an urban course having to put the holes on top of each other. But in Maynard? Come on. Even Newton and Fresh Pond aren't THAT bad! read more

I drove by this place many times before finally stopping in for a round. I was a bit turned off by the view of the first fairway, which doesn't really show well from the road. The rest of the course, though, is more interesting and generally in pretty good shape. Some hills and elevation changes, nice large old trees to give a private club kind of feel in some spots. I went on a pretty good tear when I used to work near here. For $15, you can play 9 in the morning before work. It's a quick round and I don't think I ever bumped into someone ahead of me. read more

Terrible experience at this golf course today. The guy at the club house yelled at us for being ONE MINUTE EARLY!!! WE WERE AT THE FIRST TEE BOX ON TIME, ONE MINUTE EARLY TO BE EXACT. He yelled at us and told us that they were booked all day and needed to hurry up. Not our fault the group who had a tee time AFTER us were already standing at the first tee waiting. Next time let them go since they want to stand on the tee box 20 mins before their actual tee time. Finished 9 holes in 1 hour and 50 minutes but still got told to "pick up the pace" when we were half way through. Just an overall horrible experience, terrible customer service, felt rushed even though we were AHEAD of normal pace (they have a sign on the 4th that says try to keep 2 hour pace). Furthermore, the guy didnt even have a fucking polo on and hes telling us to keep pace. Used to be an awesome local course to bang out a quick 9 holes.... now it just makes you hate golf and feel uncomfortable. read more

Normally I love this course. It tends to be cheap and fairly empty on weekdays. Made the mistake of coming on a Saturday and had a terrible experience with rude staff. The tea times were backed up by almost half an hour, and everything was mismanaged. The people working were totally unapologetic and not helpful. read more

Called to make a tee time explained that my wife has a medical condition and cannot walk and needs a riding cart and was told that she would be able to . Made the reservation get there and someone else at the desk says no we don't allow carts at 5:30. Explained that I had called twice and was told she could take one. We just get waived of and given the hand. Scumb bag move by the staff. My wife and I live in Maynard and play there a lot and not that they'll care but never again. Whoever owns or runs this course you should really be proud of your staff. read more

Its old and worn. But the counsel for the aging, is simply amazing. So many activities, and ZUMBA, with a great Zumba instructor. There is a wonderful community of Seniors, and the environment is serene and cared for. read more

Nice course. Green. Fairways are cut nice and still soft. Greens roll true. Interesting holes and layout but not odd like some courses. Fairly wide fairways. Small to medium sized greens with some contour but not a ton. Not too many hazards - some sand but hardly any water. Not too tricky. Still worth playing and well worth the price of $25 w/ cart! I went over to MCC this week and found about 3 of the greens in tough condition with dirt spots on them and it was tough to put. The course is usually in excellent so I am not sure what happened this time of year. I am assuming it will be back to normal!! read more

This place doesn't get its fair due - for the price, it's great - no, it's not a $75-80 round of golf, its certainly worth more than $15-20 though. Been playing here frequently in between rounds elsewhere all year (probably at least 20 times in 2016 so far) and as of this weekend (Sept 10th), I haven't played a place with greens in better shape with the drought we have had. Pretty impressive the shape they are in and how they are rolling. Credit to the grounds crew at this place, who I happen to have played on various rounds with a few of them this year, and they are also some of the nicest people you'll find at a course. I'd recommend Maynard to anyone that likes to play a quick 9 holes and have a pretty good experience. Yea, you will find people out there that are learning and playing slow so pace my not be preferred. But what do you expect with these prices? You have to start somewhere folks, we've all been there. Also a great walking course and I get around the 9 in about 50 mins if no one is in front of me. read more

Overall, great nine hole course. Certainly challenging in places with lots of varied terrain. fairways and greens are in good shape, teeboxes can be a little worn but are largely fine. Staff seems friendly from the limited interactions I've had and pricing is reasonable. Played here twice since I've moved to Boston and will likely be back soon. read more

Kevin and Brad- I wanted to follow up on your reply to Jeanie-Marie Price. I was the Dad "who hit the ball well" and can provide some additional context. When we arrived to check in, we were greeted very poorly by your staff. In fact, the first thing the starter said to us is that they just kicked off another 2some for being "slow" and not knowing how to play golf. Both the starter and golf shop attendant were there when we checked and were curmudgeons. When my nephew grabbed the rental clubs he was greeted by the starter as "don't break any windows in here." I am a member at a private course in the NW so I am used to being treated respectfully. I would rate your staff a very poor rating on customer service. Additionally to add, the other Dad was not irate and did not scream back at your employees. I've been playing golf for 35 years so I'm not a newbie here, in fact I carry a 6 handicap. In fact, one of your maintenance people who saw the incident unfold, apologized to me, calling their behavior unacceptable. It was a very unfortunate incident and I would hope you pass this feedback along to your staff. read more

Very nice course that is owned by the town and kept up by a management company, so it is in nice condition. The tee boxes are not all grass, but for the most part they are nice to tee off from. The greens are in good condition and provide a true roll. The price is also great! I tend not give golf courses 5 stars because there is always something that can be improved This is a nice hidden gem for a "New England" golf course. read more

The course's web site raves about its junior program. So today two life long golfing dads took their sons to the course to play. First, they have no jr sets available for rent. We were visiting from out of town, so our kids' clubs were back home. So equipped with full size clubs they head onto the course. While on the first tee the pro shop staff stood watching their every move and then yelled at one of the boys from the deck--not words of encouragement or help but, "that was five"... the dads were well aware that the pace of play needed to be accelerated and were also trying to balance that with making it a fun experience. The behavior of the staff--the dads got the message they were not welcome and walked off the course--was not welcoming, encouraging or in the spirit of the game. Disappointing that a course that touts its jr program has staff members that left two kids discouraged about playing golf again. read more
