This shop carries fabrics you cannot find anywhere else. They have a ton of quilting fabrics and supplies, but the most important thing for me as a customer is the fabric for children's clothing. It is a smocking heaven with pre-pleated and constructed garments ready to be smocked and the selection of quality fabrics is impressive. When I am making a special item whether it be a dress or quilt, this is where I go to purchase fabric; an heirloom item needs to be made with the best quality available and they have it all! Lovely quilting shop that has everything you need. A good selection of quality quilting cotton, batting, notions, and threads. They also carry a selection of patterns mostly for bags/quilts but some garments too that look fun to sew. The ladies are very friendly and welcoming, the store is clean and well organized. Reasonable prices too. Will definitely be returning to support my local quilt shop, and I highly recommend stopping in if sewing is your thing. read more

Beautiful selection of very nice quality fabric. I'm not a quilter, went in for some nice fabric for a project for my sons wedding and found exactly what I was looking for. I felt a tad slighted by the employees as I wasn't there looking for a quilting project, this is the store specialty. When I mentioned I was a knitter, the store owner basically discounted my knitting as something not needed in our warm Texas climate. Obviously, she doesn't understand there are many different kinds of yarn just like there are different kinds of fabric. Will I go back? Of course, if I think they have what I might need. read more

Buttons and Bows is a quilter's and any sewer's delight. We showed up today minutes before closing with what ended up being a large request. At every turn we were met with a yes and unbelievable stewardship from the owner. She was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to share opinions on best fit, despite me being a bit difficult. The fabric selection is impeccable. This is a first class shop. I have done my research and this far exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait to return! read more

I discovered Buttons-N-Bows while I was looking for an online seller who sells the Bonnie Blue Pattern line. Whenever possible I like to support small businesses. When I ordered the first time I had not realized that Paypal used my old address for the shipping even though I changed it quite some time ago. I wondered why it never arrived and discovered the issue when I finally went to paypal to look. I re-ordered and alerted the owner of the shop that it could be possible that the first order may be returned and to make sure to send the new order to my new address. The lady responded that if it comes she will let me know and issue a refund. The second order arrived in a timely manner without issue and is as good as or better than I was expecting. A week later I received the first order because the new occupants of our former residence were kind enough to forward it. I contacted Buttons and Bows and asked if I might be able to return the one that arrived from the first order and exchange it for a different pattern. She said it would be fine and so I will do this. It was kind of her to work with me on this mix up when she really did not have to be accommodating at all. I do love the selection of products offered at this store and I learned of several other pattern companies that Buttons and Bows carries which I would like to sew for my children. Browsing through the patterns they offer created so much inspiration for the possibilities of what I could make for my daughters.The quality of the patterns is much better than what is typically offered in big name crafting stores such as JoAnn's and I do not mind paying for good quality that will last through many sewing sessions over the years. I think the prices are reasonable considering it is a mom and pop shop and it sells higher-end and not as easily found patterns and other items. I will definitely order from here again and would recommend it to others who are sewing for children. read more

I love this store- the ladIes are friendly and helpful, they take time to answer my questions and tell me how to sew some of the beautiful items they have on display. The fabric and notions here are such high quality (much better than anything you will find at Joann's). If you want to make children/baby's garments or quilts, this is the place to find inspiration, patterns, fabric, and notions. I have been going here for alot of years. Owned by the loveliest lady who always makes you feel welcome. Even if all you want to do is drop in for a chat and look at the wonderful things she has. This not your typical fabric store. It has fabulous fabrics, trims, threads, patterns, etc.for hand or machine smoking. They also offer classes. There is also quilting supplies and I believe classes also. And if all you want is to make a child's garment this is where you will find inspiration. I cannot say enough about this lovely little jewel of a shop. Hopefully it will be around for many more years. She also sells smocking and sewing machines. This is a very nice shop run by a wonderful woman. She has your basic quilting cotton and a pretty decent selection of wide backing fabric. The shop's overall style is very traditional but she does carry nice stuff. She also has a whole corner dedicated to smocking fabrics, patterns, and supplies. Normally I'd seek out a shop with more items to my personal modern quilting taste, but she is so close to me and so kind that I keep coming back for all of my staples. Oh, and if you are looking for college licensed fabric, she has most of the major schools in the region. :) read more

I just called this store asking if they have buttons in bulk, some person answered the phone and told me in very rude tone "no, not really and no, we do not", I am all for supporting small business but I will not be shopping at this store. After an online search, I was looking forward to visiting this shop during a trip to Houston last summer. I took my my daughter-in-law, who lives in Houston and was pregnant with my first grandchild, and her mother, in hopes of getting many ideas for garments and plates she would want me to make for my new granddaughter (I am a prolific smocker and seamstress). I had intentions of purchasing several specialty fabrics I can only get online, as well as some design plates and several patterns. When we arrived at the store, there were 3 women working/visiting at a front table. Upon entering, I asked if we could dispose of a small closed bag of trash and perhaps a drink cup. I was told by the younger of the 3 women, she would prefer not to dispose of our trash. . .I took it back outside to my car. When I returned to the store, even though it was obvious I was there to browse and shop, I was not asked if I needed any assistance nor were my daughter-in-law or her mother offered assistance; for all intents and purposes, we were completely ignored. Finally, when I was unable to locate a specific smocking plate on my own, I approached the older of the 3 women to ask for help. She did indeed find the plate for me; I purchased it and left without buying anything else. I could have easily spent upwards of $200 that afternoon, as the shop has a wonderful stock of smocking supplies, however, we were in shock at how rudely we had been treated. My daughter-in-law felt so snubbed, she has no desire to EVER revisit that shop no matter how long she lives in Houston. As for me, I will shop online or purchase what I need from shops in Dallas/Fort Worth where I am treated as though I'm truly appreciated as a customer. I can say without a doubt, I cannot recall ever being treated this poorly in a retail establishment; evidently Buttons n Bows feels secure in turning away customers and revenue. Barbie D. read more
