Came here after visiting the lighthouse for lunch, and I had the shrimp tacos which were amazing! It was more than enough food and very flavorful! The kids cheese quesadilla was also a very generous portion and was enjoyed by my son! I will return to try additional items for sure! I have been coming to Buxton Munch for several years. Inside the innocuous shopping center location is a sweet little hideaway with a nice vibe, friendly folks, and very good food. It is a great place for lunch with lots of menu options, super fresh dishes, and excellent service. Our party all ordered fish tacos, we had both blacked and broiled fish; both options were delicious. We especially liked the creamy/spicy sauce. read more

Umm, I don't know if these people have ever had actual tacos. Like, ever. Because what they refer to as the "best fish tacos" in the area are extremely basic and utterly disappointing. Despite their posted behest to "be patient," I got frustrated while waiting 10 minutes to be seated in the tiny dining room. The décor is fun but odd, clearly curated by an old hippie living out his life-long dream to run a 'laid-back' beach café. At the 30-minute mark, we were presented with a plate of grocery-store bought ingredients emptied out of cans and bags onto a plate. Shredded cheese, black beans, white rice, diced tomatoes, raw onions, iceberg lettuce and a slab of fish that may or may not have come from the freezer; all were presented without love or imagination. The accompanying "fish taco sauce" was pretty much ranch mixed with mayo, and did nothing to enhance the experience. At least there were tootsie rolls thrown into a plastic basket, right next to the foil-wrapped tortillas (which were a little mushy). Hey, we were only there once and we only tried one dish - the dish that they tout as their specialty. But I like to think that I've had a decent array of fish tacos, and this version doesn't even chart. I was recently in Baja, Mexico. My expectations may have been a bit lofty. read more

this is my favorite place. the staff is amazingly nice. from the outside, it looks very sketchy on the outside but it's beautiful on the inside. Once i walked in, great thoughts went through my head about the place. There's a long wait for the food, but it's completely worth it. the place has amazing food for reasonable prices. Quality, original, fresh food. One of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Lots of variety on the menu, fish tacos and shrimp tacos are also amazing. Skip the fried mac n cheese bites, they were underwhelming. I recommend ordering your food to-go as it can get very crowded inside, also the ambience is a bit lacking, TONS of handwritten signs all over the walls with messages such as"BE PATIENT, THIS IS NOT FAST FOOD" and "Be Nice, Be happy, be patient" etc. I imagine they must have been inundated at some point with impatient tourists, otherwise why such redundant (and somewhat rude) signage. That being said, each time I ordered to go food while on my vacation, it was ready in the quotes amount of time with no problem. So if you're looking for a great place to pick up some sandwiches/wraps/salads on your way to the beach, this is a great choice. Oh, also forgot my other reason for leaving 4 stars instead of 5...no online menu!!!! It's 2017! Who does t have their menu on their website??? Fortunately someone had posted a picture of the menu on TripAdvisor and I was able to use that. So if you're reading this and trying to figure out what you want to order, look up TripAdvisor and use that menu. read more

There is no being on the fence about Buxton Munch! Fabulous food, excellent service in a charming location! We have tried many items on the menu and have always been impressed with how clean, healthy, and delicious the food is every time! I strongly disagree with Food C's review about the owner!!! She spent a great deal of time talking my husband and I when we first came to Buxton Munch!!! Over the years I have observed her visit tables and speak with guests. Today was my first time dining at the Buxton Munch Co. The food was nothing short of awesome it exceeded my expectations, good food is hard to do this place is on point. I would also like to add that the service is excellent! I came with my girlfriend today and she had the Rock Fish Tacos and I had the Rock Fish Sandwich the fish blackened it was seasoned very well alot of people tend to over do the seasoning it was perfect! This fish was cooked well not over or under it was just right texture flavor everything was good. It was served on a good hogie roll alot of people think that the bread is just a vehicle for what is inside but the bread is a very important part and this bread definitely held up to the protein was toasted well and did not get soggy or fall apart throughout. The fries were nice and crispy also well seasoned. Very nice plate set as well food is an art and this was very beautiful the tacos are served deconstructed on a very nice rectangular plate I love the build your own approach. We also had chips and salsa. The chips are home made and once again seasoned perfectly the salsa is home made and is not too thick or too thin. O am very particular about salsa and this stuff was perfect. The fish tacos a served with a home made hand crafted special sauce that I could literally eat on everything a perfect touch to an already amazing meal. When in OBX this place is a must!!!! The food is all fresh, beautifully presented and delicious. The homemade sauce that comes with the fish tacos is like nothing you have ever tasted, a secret recipe of the chef. My family used to come here every year, but 2012 was the last time we came, so I was ecstatic when I learned that my parents booked a house for August 2016. And for the past 4 years I craved an amazing, delicious, fresh wrap from the Buxton Munch. I woke up on my first day in OBX and strolled into the Munch 15 minutes after it opened and ordered one of my favorite wraps - the Jamaican chicken. My boyfriend, who I had been raving to about this place for the past 8 months, ordered the buffalo shrimp wrap. Neither meal disappointed. Amazing as usual! My whole family missed this place; they all ended up grabbing wraps there before heading to meet us at the beach. The place has expanded since we have been here, to meet the high demand, I'm so happy to see they are doing so well. It's an awesome little place that serves some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted. The service is always friendly and the food is fresh-made with love, so anyone who says otherwise is rude and entitled and clearly doesn't feel the chill, laid-back vibes that hit you as soon as you walk through the door (I happened to read some of the lower star reviews). Stopped in for lunch. Food was very good and portions large however they refused to split our bill even after telling us they would before we even ordered. For a place that is so crazy busy that they would refuse to split a bill in half you would think they would have a better system in place for paying. Also, when i asked before ordering if my husband and i could be on a separate check the server was very rude and said they dont do that before saying fine that he would because i was confused but he was just very rude after that...and as i said...still wouldnt split at the end even after agreeing to. This incident is definitely a true reflection about who you really are...Oh, and nice touch on going on Tripadvisor in the past week and finally saying thank you to your customers who gave you positive comments weeks ago when you manage to address negative feedback within 48 hours. Yes, I did call your waitress an idiot, in my comments but not in the restaurant, because while in the restaurant we asked her a simply question and she looked at us, whined some mumbling words and ran off as though she could not speak. And yes, your message was indeed harassing...enough for Yelp to open an investigation about your comments you made about the "Yelp website" itself. For a website that you are trying to get your "customers to boycott", you sure use Yelp a lot. No forgiveness needed here...keep it for yourself. You keep giving reference to me "slandering" your restaurant from August til now, not hardly. I'm just someone who wrote a comment about the service I received and wrote a comment. You decided to write back calling me a liar and accusing me of having bad behavior. What's bothering you is that you are use to berating customers who write negative comments and astonished that someone had the nerve to call you on it. My initial comment was left alone until I saw your feedback. So, if you want this left alone then maybe you should practice what you preach. Had constant awkward interaction with woman taking my order from the counter (wanted to order to go). I had a couple of questions about the menu and she was rude and unhelpful and rushed me even though there was no one behind me. She and ladies in the kitchen seemed to be arguing. I got the crab & avocado wrap -- not good! Hardly any crab and they put premade guac on it. I couldn't even finish half of the wrap. Husband got the rockfish wrap and said his was good and there was a good amount of fish. He's finishing the rest of my crab one and said it's just eh'. As first time visitors, our group wasn't sure what to expect. Man, were we pleasantly surprised! This hole-in-the-wall local eatery was nothing short of amazing. The restaurant warns you ahead of time that you will probably wait a little bit, both for seating and for your food to come out as it is fresh and made to order. But pleasant company added to the pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant make waiting much more bearable. The fish and shrimp tacos, burger, and crabby patty that our party ordered were all flavorful and delicious. The portions were generous, and the price was reasonable. It is definitely on our list to visit again next time we visit, and we would highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for some local flavor. read more
