Made the visit to Buzzard Billy's in search of some lunch time grub and they have the food to fit the bill. We were greeted & seated fairly quickly and placed an order for some deep fried pepperjack cheese curds! They arrived hot & gooey enough to make even the most healthy of person give up the diet for just a little bit. For the main course, I chose my usual standby, a burger. It was good but nothing out of the ordinary for a burger. Overall, fun little bar/cafe for a quick bite and beer. Will have to be more adventurous on the next visit to La Crosse & venture out of the burger realm. read more

Hannah was our waitress. Very attentive, very friendly. Brought my wife out her brandy sweet old fashioned, which she thought was the bomb. Brought me a zing zang bloody Mary, very good, spicy, great taste. Wife ordered a Greek salad, and I ordered blackened shrimp with veggies and a side salad (substituted salad for dirty rice because of dietary restriction, which Hannah graciously took care of). Side salad with vinaigrette was fresh and flavorful. Greek salad came out in a very generous amount, with the grilled chicken tasting moist. Two skewers of blackened shrimp were fantastic, and the steamed veggies were tender-crisp. All in all, well done on the part of Buzzard Billy's. read more

Good Wisconsin bar and food. Had talapia sandwhich, good lettuce, tomato, onion toppings, cooked petfect. Tasted good at 10:30 after a few previous bar stops. Price with whiskey soda under 15, good buy. Service a little slow after busy night but freindly. I would stop again to review their Cajun food, looked interesting. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...unfortunately the worst part of the equation is the establishment. We've been here for almost two hours, seated almost one hour ago. Were it not my sneaking suspicion that this place sucks, I'd be seated here sans a drink. Had I known I would have to wait until 10pm to eat food, I would have gone somewhere long ago. What do I do? Wait for the food that I ordered an hour ago? Or do I leave to find sustenance served in a timely manner elsewhere? So much character! This place is conveniently located in downtown LaCrosse. It does get busy, and they do not take dinner reservations. We were in town for an event at the LaCrosse center and made the short walk over to Buzzard Billy's around 4pm. The restaurant is filled with quirky, fun, decor. The large menu offers a variety of Cajun inspired dishes. I had some of the nachos appetizer, which was delicious and very big! I also had the seafood gumbo which was excellent! It was pretty spicy. Their drink menu features a lot of options. They have local craft and domestic beers, cocktails, and some seasonal hot toddy drinks for the winter months! I enjoyed the hot buttered rum drink. I was actually served the wrong drink initially. I was served a drink that contained coffee. I cannot costume caffeine, so I had to send it back. I did receive the right drink after that, and it was delicious! We were still charged for the drink, which was a bit strange. Overall, prices and service were just ok. The atmosphere and food was impressive! I do think I will come back to Buzzard Billy's again! read more

I only give 5 stars when I have no problems with a place and this would be one of them. I was seated right away and the service was spot on. I started with and highly recommend the seafood jambalaya. I followed that with the chicken czarina which I also recommend. It's nice to find something different to eat and they do a good job at it. Lastly the prices weren't bad either. After enjoying Cajun/Creole food in New Orleans I tried the Cajun Combo at Buzzard Billy's. The waitress was prompt, pleasant, and helpful. The Combo consisted of blackened catfish (which was nicely seasoned and cooked), jambalaya (which was nicely flavorful with a well-rounded mix of hearty ingredients. Borderline spicy which was fine by me), seafood gumbo (without okra. Okra isn't mandatory in gumbo - I like okra though. The gumbo was hearty and full-flavored with a touch of spicyness), and hushpuppies (I found the hushpuppies to be a pleasant surprise. These had a slight honey-sweetness to them which was refreshing and almost seemed like a light dessert version which I have never had.) read more

Delicious! As a southern-girl-at-heart kind of person I'm always excited to find true Cajun and Southern comfort food places in Wisconsin and buzzard Billy's doesn't disappoint. Their gator Po'Boy was delicious and not short on meat, which I love. Their breading is not overly done and their dipping sauces are perfect. Husband had crawfish étouffée and it was amazing with flavor. Only two things I can negatively comment on and, really, they're not complaints that would stop me from coming back. There was a bit too much parsley as it was sprinkled on literally every dish we got. Also it's a bit dim on the inside, so would likely be hard to see if we had been there later in the day. read more

First off, I want to start this review by saying we have always had great service here. Always friendly, this wait staff actually seem to like their jobs! It makes the entire dining experience that much more fun. Having eaten here a few times, I always make sure to start off the meal with their amazing buzzard eggs, which I think they now call armidillo eggs. Jalepenos with cheese in a chicken ball wrapped in bacon?! Wow. Between my wife and I, we have tried quite a few things on the menu. None have really let us down. The jambalaya is good, perfect amount of spice. The muffalata sandwhich is huge and one of the best sandwiches I've had in La Crosse. The chicken creole is great and spicy enough to make my spicy loving wife down a couple glasses of water. Anything from their blackened menu is delicious. And their hush puppies are good and comes with a sauce that pushes them into greatness category. All reasonably priced as well. read more

The hubby had the Cajun po boy with onion rooms. My sweet potato fries were a little soggy, so the waitress called them out before me and went back to the kitchen and came back with fresh, hot crispy ones. The food here is indulgent, creamy & absolutely decadent. Come here if you are in the mood to fill up, uninhibited, on savory goodness. I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of seasonings & spices used here and have never had an issue with the wait staff. The bread is warm & buttery, the seafood is fried to golden perfection & the cheese is never lacking. My FAVORITE La Crosse restaurant, and maybe even my favorite restaurant period! Takes me back to my college days at UWL :-) The atmosphere is fun and quirky and the food has never disappointed me. One caution is that it can be very busy on weekends and they don't take reservations on weekends. This past Saturday, albeit Valentine's Weekend, the wait for a table at 6:30 was an hour and a half. If you're not in a hurry, its worth the wait! If you do decide to wait (or are wanting a night cap after dinner), head on upstairs to the Starlite Lounge for a delicious martini or appetizer! They have wine, beer, and other cocktails, too, so don't worry if martinis aren't your style. The highlight for me on this trip, though, being in my newly pregnant state, is that they actually have a section of their drink menu dedicated to mocktails! read more
