I loved eating here. I crave crawfish so much, and it was a great place to get that. I do enjoy crawfish steamed and in the shell over fried crawfish, but it was a good experience. The atmosphere is entertaining with the many interior decor signs, record, or pop feel items. We had buffalo wings which were huge. They were with bones, crunchy skin like you want them. The buffalo sauce was spicy but not hot were I had to eat celery or drink something. They were still very good. I also had the the swamp thing burger. Really good, nice choice of ingredients. This place is fantastic! The Americana decor, the packers table tops, the staff, and the food were all great. I had the ca c'est bon with the blackened catfish. The catfish was done perfectly and the andouille was a perfect level of spicy. It was really busy, but that didn't hinder our wait for our food. We were just traveling through doing the River Road, so this is our first but hopefully not the last visit to BBs. We just had some appetizers as we could not take leftovers "home." The meals we saw served were HUGE, and the few people we talked to said there entrees were delicious. Everything we could see certainly looked delicious. We had the alligator tails, jalapeño curds, and the chicken quesadillas. They were outstanding and so were the sauces that came with them. They, and two excellent local brews, were just enough for these two travelers. The beer selection was awesome also. They have a great Cajun and American menus fare. Sorry we did not get to try the many other enticing entrees. Wished we lived here! Service was attentive, helpful, and friendly. The location is in the center of a vibrant city. It was on a Wednesday night and friendly people were out with their children just enjoying the city. The Seafood Chicken Augratin was a terrific balance of flavors, and was served with a generous amount of garden vegetables cooked to a perfect crisp tender. Yum! Very solid Cajun food in Wisconsin. I was impressed with the gumbo and the etouffee. the bacon wrapped andoulle was outstanding. While some elements of Louisiana were missing( stiffiling heat and humidity), the décor was very nice and service was outstanding. I believe this would be the go to place to go while in La Crosse if you had the crave for Cujun. While I prefer the lighter roux like you might find in St. Martinville, and the kind I personally make there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with this darker version. It is certainly more robust. Based on the limited time I had in La Crosse(only 2 nights) I could not give this place less than 5 for the experience that I had. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped in there yesterday. It was about my 4th time there & I'm always impressed with the outcomes of the food. Yesterday Lauren was our server- she was phenomenal. Although it took a few minutes to greet us, her service was over & beyond. I told her I didn't want anything smoked but she recommended me the smoked chicken Salad and I have to say it was the best salad I have ever tasted. The chicken was right flavor and the texture was on point. She was on top of things & made sure we had everything we need & in which sequence. Overall, I do like buzzard Billy's. I am basing this review solely on the one experience we had there last week. Four of us were visiting La Crosse, saw the good reviews on Yelp here, sounded great. Our experience at dinner was so unlike all the favorable reviews, I don't know if they were just having a bad night, or if this is usual. We were, I can't say greeted as what we got was more of a surly snarl, but acknowledged by the guy at the front desk, who showed us to the first table by the front door where all the hot air and folks blow in. Many other tables open. We declined and he reluctantly led us to a nicer table in the bar area. I'm afraid it went downhill from there. The waitress, though personable and friendly, was totally clueless about every menu item we asked about. She also forgot to check on our order, as about 45 minutes later and no meal, at our request she checked on it and lo and behold it was ready. Somewhat cool and congealed, but by then we were starving so we ate it. The fried crawfish was tasteless and sparse; overfried, underseasoned, and who can't make a remoulade sauce? Just use bottled if you can't serve anything better than that stuff. The etouffe was tasteless, with a surprising lack of crawfish. Actually, it was more like really thick crawfish-favored gravy. The rice with which it was served, was just plain hopeless. On a positive note, one of the party said their fried oysters were pretty good. I am so reluctant to give a really low rating, I dread impacting anyone's business, but these folks need to know. The worst part of the evening, besides paying too much for a really substandard meal with bad service, was the poor behavior of the staff. We witnessed two occasions where the waitstaff was arguing with each other, loud enough we could all hear. In the restaurant, in front of us customers, not the back room. Really unpleasant. Great GF menu. My daughter has Celiac and a severe nut allergy combined with being a very picky eater which makes dining out really hard. Their GF menu provided her many options that looked good to her. She ended up going with the GF Shrimp Penne Alfredo which she loved. They also offer a half order on some of their dishes which is good for kids. Service was great. It is indeed a little taste of the creole. I like the Po'Boys (the veggie po'boy is actually my favorite). It's really not that expensive (around $10/head), but if you want to stay cheap the red beans & rice dish is filling and cheap. For an appetizer, I do recommend the pepper jack cheese bites - deep fried golden and cheesey, but with more punch then the boring old mozzarella cheese stick. Ah, La Crosse.
