Nice restaurant for pizza with friendly service. My favorite is the Supreme pizza with in-house made Italian sausage. It's difficult to find good sausage for pizza anywhere and this place has it on their menu. Their pizza crust is actual pizza dough not the cardboard pizza dough that you get at other pizza restaurants. Had lunch here today with our neighbors. It was the first time for all of us. Nice quaint place with good atmosphere. We got there about 20 minutes after opening and sat in one of the booths. The waiter took our orders quickly and brought out our drinks. We ordered 3 personal pizzas and a steak and cheese sub. We had one plain cheese pizza, a Supreme personal pizza and a build your own personal pizza with pepperoni, onions and mushrooms. We also ordered one small Garden salad. 1 sweet tea, 2 waters and a diet coke. The salad was excellent. Crispy cold lettuce with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, two types of cheese and good croutons with ranch dressing. The steak and cheese sub came out and we were surprised when wee saw the bread. We were expecting a regular style hoagie bun or baguette type bun, but looked almost like a pita bread from the top. I asked the waiter what type of bread it was and he said they make their own bread. It was excellent. Looked like a naan bread almost. She ordered jalapeno's on it and it was excellent. Said she'd order it again. The pizzas were good. I had the supreme and the sausage was real good. We all agreed that the crust and cheese were very good. Two of us thought the sauce was different and must've had something it it, as they didn't rave over the sauce. I had the supreme and there were so many toppings that I didn't pay much attention to the sauce. Mine was very good. We were surprised that they only offer two sizes of pizzas...personal and large. Large is $24.95 and personals are around $14.95. They have a good selection of pizzas. Our one complaint was the pricing. They charge $2.00 for toppings and $3.00 got premier toppings. It's the same charge for either the personal or large pizzas. Our personal Cheese pizza (with no toppings) was $9.50. My personal Supreme pizza was $14.95 (which contained mushrooms, onions, pepperoni, bacon, black olives and green pepper) while my wife ordered just a personal pepperoni with onions ($2) and mushrooms ($3), totaling $15. Seems like they'd charge less for toppings on a personal size than on a large! My bill as $43.97 before the tip. Our neighbors bill for their pizza, sandwich and drink was $32.59 before tip. They were charged $4 for jalapeno's on the side and slices of tomato. read more

My wife and I have been to most of the pizza places in Columbia and have been severely disappointed. We finally found By The Fire Pizza. It is super clean and very nice atmosphere. I ordered the Alfredo Fries and Lamb Gyro. The fries were nice and crispy just like I asked for. The Alfredo fries were great. Nice and flavorful. The lamb Gyro was good. I lived in Europe for three years. I used to eat, gyros all of the time fresh off of the roller. I have a higher standard than most people for a Gyro. The Gyro at this location was OK. It was not amazing and it was not bad, it's right in the middle. The Tzatziki sauce was extremely cucumbery. They should use less cucumber next time. The sauce overall was about a five out of ten, it was average. The overall atmosphere inside of the restaurant is great. There is plenty of seating and a nice bar. They do not sell liquor at this location but they do have wine and beer that you can buy. The waitress was wonderful. She made sure I had everything that I needed and that I was ok. read more

Pizza is delicious. Located in a strip mall it is a cozy welcoming place. The staff all are friendly and it is refreshing to not be rushed while deciding. Ask a question get an honest answer that actually is accurate when you receive the food. If you have a question it is answered with a smile and detail. The bread and the cheese bread appetizers are both delicious and come out quick. The pizza has a nice thin crust that is crisp yet not hard. It is soft but not chewy. The cheese and sauce blend together with just the right amount of spices for flavor. The cheese is gooey when you bite it and there is a good amount of cheese. The sauce makes it delicious. We try something new each time we go. You won't be disappointed. The small pizza is four slices and it is enough to share between two especially with an appetizer or salad. The large is 8 slices and if you want to take home pizza for lunch or a snack later it's the way to go. An excellent addition to the pizza scene, By the Fire is a wood fired pizza place near the Big Lots on St. Andrews. I was bummed out that my favorite place closed a few months back but I think I might have found my new spot! They know how to make a really good pizza. They started as a food truck but their dining location is nice, clean, and comfortable and I expect this place to do really well! Their homemade crust is just the right balance between crisp and airy with a little bit of a balance. Although doughy crust is not my favorite, they managed to get just enough doughiness without going over the top. I ordered the spinach and artichoke pizza which was quite flavorful. It has an olive oil instead of the marinara and the cheese is almost creamy in consistency. This particular pizza has both mozzarella and ricotta and they were quite good! The toppings were fresh and I can only eat about half of the pizza as it was very filling! The good news is I now have leftovers and I am excited to eat them! I had the cannoli for dessert and it was quite tasty as well. They have a few items on their menu to include wings, salads, sandwiches, and a few desserts. I did get a side of the marinara so I could try it and dip my crust in it and it was actually quite tasty so I am sure a regular pizza would be just as good but I am glad that I got the one that I got because it was excellent! It is almost brand-new but they already have a few folks that appear to be regulars. The only negatives were the lack of unsweet tea, and the service was a little bit slow because they are understaffed. Like most other places they are in the same boat but I'm confident that once they can get some more folks on board that will correct itself. I didn't have to wait too long and they were quite friendly so it was not a detriment to my experience. Every brand new place has issues that need to be worked out and they will. Incredible addition to the local, small business pizza scene in Columbia. By The Fire is a hidden gem off the beaten path close to Irmo, in a shopping center on St Andrews Rd. But it's well worth the trip out there. Talked with the owners once and you can really see their passion for making a good pie. I rarely right reviews but this place is that good. This is truly a hidden gem. We've been looking for our "family" pizza place and THIS. IS. IT. The staff is very friendly and the pizza is SO GOOD. their Brick Oven Bread is reason enough to go there. I don't know how they get so much flavor in the crust and the toppings. Incredibly disappointing across the board- placed order @ 5:40- received text messages @ 6:09 that my order was ready..literally was pulling up to the door @ 6:10 only to be told that the order wasn't ready and it would be a few more minutes.. 6:20 I go back in and I'm told the kitchen got backed up it would be another 5-10 minutes and I show the young lady the text message from the restaurant saying my order was ready... she told me they didn't send that text the online ordering system (Slice) sent it. My question is who told Slice it was ready? so almost an hour after I placed my order it was "ready".. got home and Dear God... Half the pizza was inedible because the dough was uncooked, the cheesesticks only had cheese on 5 of the middle sticks, the toppings on the large pizza we got were lightly distributed and spotty and did not extend past the center of the pizza, and the personal supreme @ $13.95 had about 1 bite of thinly layered toppings per slice. What I found most off putting was the amount of raw, uneven cooked dough when the pizza was turned over, the lack of cheese on the "cheese bread", and the act that we waited almost an additional 30 minutes and ended up throwing over half our order away. Surprisingly quiet and cozy inside! We enjoyed the meat lovers pizza which has homemade sausage on it. My husband and I both had flashbacks to Godfathers pizza with our first bite! It was yummy! This is a great place for pizza in our area . It is hard to fix and good family restaurants around us . Fire pizza fits that ticket. Great sauce and cheese. Crust is perfect with a slight char on it. One of the better pizzas I've had . Also tried the Philly cheese steak and it was pretty darn good as well. Love the dessert canolli . The ricotta filling is home made. We got some take away this evening for dinner from this cool little mom & pop place off St Andrews Rd. We grabbed a margarita, pizza and a specialty pizza for Beth with pepperoni, bacon and onion. Both brick oven pizzas was on point with a tasty sauce and just the right amount of toppings! The service was perfect & ask for JJ as she was really helpful for our first visit.
