Stopped by Nikki's Pizza today on a rainy afternoon and had one of those unexpectedly great experiences. I walked up with my dog planning to tie him to a light post while I ran inside to order, but before I could even get to the door the manager noticed us and invited us to wait in a covered alcove so my dog could stay dry and comfortable. It immediately made me feel welcome. While waiting, I grabbed a drink ,.. they have cocktails, draft beer, and bottled options ....and the whole place had such an easygoing, friendly vibe. Therefore, I had to visit Nicky's for a taste. Traveling to eat every good slice of pizza in the five boroughs of NYC, my standards are very high. Sadly, Nicky's regular slice fell short of my expectations. The dough was lacking any taste while the crust was somewhat cardboard-ish. In addition, it felt like there was barely any tomato sauce. All in all, not a very good slice of pizza. What's worse was witnessing the owner and an employee arguing with a customer. Not every customer is in the right. I don't believe that concept. However, this was a small matter that could have been avoided. The customer complained, then the employee escalated the situation. Instead of the owner diffusing the argument, he poured gasoline on the fire. Not saying the customer was absolutely right, but a shouting match really dampens the mood of the other customers. Lately, Nicky's has become our "Go to" when we're hungry for a tasty pizza, and our last visit did not disappoint. Nicky's is on Main Street and though one might be worried about parking, there are plenty of spaces available. We parked in the lot by the Ice House Amphitheater. Our friends got a spot right in front of the restaurant. Our server was pleasant and after initially being seated by the window, we requested a move closer to the fire place. We ordered our usual: Grandma's with sausage and mushrooms on one half. When the pie arrived after about 15 minutes, it looked great. The sauce at Nicky's is a bit tangy and slightly sour, which we prefer. The crust is thin and slightly crunchy with a nice chew included. The large pie is cut in eight pieces, so each is us got two nice sized slices. The restaurant is cozy and features two dining areas. I'd say it's one of the best pizza places around BUT do not order pizza a couple hours a head of time. The last time I did that, the pizza seems like they made it and the left it on top of the oven for over an hour. The crust and undercarriage was very hard, it started to hurt the roof of my mouth. I had ordered a glass of beer and when she came over, she actually slammed it on the table. I turned to my husband, knowing he was going to say something, I said no just let it go. My husband decided to speak to the gentleman with the contaminated gloves and asked him not to touch our pizza. All of a sudden, the owner's daughter approached our table yelling loudly that my husband called her nasty not only did he not call her nasty, what he did say was to the young man not changing his gloves is nasty. She approached our table with so much anger that an employee had to hold her back. We have an autistic son that was so upset. He actually started crying once we reached our car no Bueno! sitting at another restaurant we ran into a few friends and asked about their experience at Nicky's. because I know they frequently take out. He complained that they blow on his pizza to get the extra flour off that shocked me, and if we had been sitting outside, like we usually do, we would've never known what was going on in the kitchen. Tried Nicky's for the first time last week. Waitress was sweet and the pizza was pretty good, I'd go back again for it. It was a bit small for a large tho. The fried raviolis were very bland and the sauce served with them tasted like a chunky jar sauce. The garlic knots were flavorful and not greasy. All of our food came out hot. This is an HONEST review from someone who loves Nicky's. The food itself deserves 5 stars. From the appetizers to the cannoli, everything is AMAZING. Even if you take a pizza togo, it's great. That being said, tonight has left an extremely sour taste in our mouths: To start, we brought 4 friends who hadn't had Nicky's and they were excited to give it a try after our raving about the quality of food and service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a kind young woman who offered to accommodate our party of 6 with an add on table. We said thank you and proceeded to wait for her as she directed us. After 10 minutes, a LOVELY gentleman came to us to say "we can't sit you because we are full. You'll have to sit outside." I told him that we were waiting on the young women who told us to wait. He the got an attitude and told us they were FULL. they were indeed not full. We were looking at 5 open table. We still stood there to wait since he said it would be 45 minutes. He finally came back reluctantly to accommodate us a table. Two hour surprise, he was our server. He took our drink orders and then went to the back to get on his phone and gossip. When we got our drinks there were NOODLES in the bottoms of the cups. He was rude about that as well. He was sassy and nasty towards us the whole time. One person NEVER received their food and instead of telling us that it was never made, an hour and a half into our dinner he rushed the kitchen to make an order that was never even made, and did not tell us. After everyone was finished with their DESSERTS, we then told him to not rush a pizza because ours already took 40 minutes to make so another pizza would obviously take longer than the 5 minutes he suspected. The manager gave us no resolve and when we told him to take the pizza off and not make it, they then tacked gratuity onto our bill !!! Haha, such a funny way to end a terrible night with the worst server I have ever encountered. Pretty sure he was also drunk from all of the word slurring and missing orders. To the one cook who came to apologize for the noodles in our drink, thank you. You were the only person there that gave any relief to the situation. If it wasn't for the food quality, I would give this 1 star. Maybe don't force people to stay an extra hour for food that was never made and make them pay for it on top of gratuity. I have really missed Nicky's Pizza. Whe I found out that the location in 5 points closed, I literally cried because they were my favorite go-to place for NY thin crust style pizza. But I happened to be in Lexington and saw the name, so I went inside and asked if they were the same place. And they were. Straight up, I hugged the server, I was so happy!! So of course I had to order a few pieces "by the slice". The Sicilian is a deep crust pizza. I got it with sausage. The dough is just so fluffy but also crispy and flavorful, it begs for a bowl of extra sauce for dipping. But for me it was just a bit too much dough. I don't eat alot of bread so this is strictly a personal preference and not a slight on their ability to make awesome pizza. The other slice was a "Grandma slice" with shaved meatballs and OMG ! This was just so awesome. The crust wasn't quite as thin as Thin crust, but it easily definitely hand tossed. Oh so good! The place is bigger than the 5 points location with excellent natural light and they do serve beer and wine. They also have salads and pasta dishes if you're not in the mood for pizza. read more

Easily the most bittersweet review I've ever written. We have tried this place multiple times and somehow it's never been good for my family. Anytime I've ordered it by myself it's always incredible though. With the family, the food has always come out cold or overcooked. Nobody liked their food. We asked around for a laid-back place with good food and drinks, and we were pointed to this place. I don't eat meat, so I ordered half jalapeños/feta, and my husband ordered half pepperoni mushroom. The pizza did not disappoint; it was delicious. I was a little skeptical at first, as I'm used to my favorite places in the Northern VA/DC area. I also got the house salad with no olives and the red wine vinaigrette; it was good. My husband ordered the chicken wings extra crispy, and he thought they were okay, but he agreed the pizza was great. I had a pizza here about a month ago and it was good however, tonight the pizza was AWFUL I ordered a margarita pizza and I received a cold crust swimming in tomatoe sauce with a few pieces of cold round cheese not even melted. Excellent service was received by Logan. My wife and I decided to visit this restaurant downtown Lexington Saturday evening. Although the pizza order took a bit longer than we anticipated, it was well worth the wait. The size of the pizza was way more than enough for two people and would have easily fed a third person. JUST THE FACTS: 1. My husband's meal was brought to the table 15 minutes AFTER mine so we did not get to enjoy our meal at the same time. 2. His meal was burned to a crisp. The stromboli was BLACK on the bottom and edges. Totally inedible. 3. When we spoke to, who we were TOLD was the manager (although I highly doubt he was), he immediately came back with "I'll have you know that is a PERFECTLY COOKED stromboli" even after I showed him the hard as a rock, blackened bottom and crust. When we told him we would never come back to eat there be replied "WELL THANK GOD!" 4. I asked for the check but after waiting another 10 minutes without getting it and watching 4 to 5 teenagers behind the counter (including the manager) joke around, laugh and watch tv, I went up to get the check from our server (Kate was very nice and yes, we tipped her well). I signed my copy of the receipt and told her "God bless you for working with that moron" (hey, I said I would stick to the FACTS so yes, I said that). We left and we will NEVER go back. 5. They did remove the stromboli from our bill but we never got an apology (or ANY clue that he cared at all) from the "manager", Benny. All we got were excuses. 6. I got a comment on my post about how awful they were, from their Facebook page, stating how upset they were at my behaviour and even a thinly-veiled threat of a retaliatory negative review for MY business if I left one for THEM.
