Went in on a Monday it was nice it was open so many places are closed . They have a happy hour special 2 beers and nachos $10.00. Was vey quiet while we were there . The waitstaff was good. The food ok . We ordered the potato cakes with pastrami, cheese and onions was disappointing to find that hey we're just hash brown patties with toppings . It tasted fine but not what we would call a potato cake not homemade like we thought. Got the chicken wings which was a good serving and they were very good . Small note the celery looked like it still had some dirt on it . Could have just been scraped before serving. All in all it was fine for what it is. Seems to have a great Trivia following. read more

Absolutely nothing wrong with this spot- it's just not very interesting after 3 tries. Friendly bartenders and servers,local crowd, occasional live music. But the beer selection is more American than Irish, missed drinks average, and the food is , well, subpar. I had a decent pastrami sandwich special, but failed to realize that not a single vegetable will appear without asking:-). Pickle was good! The Shepherds Pie lacked flavor with tough ground beef, and could have used the oven over the microwave. We chose this pub because it had clearly marked GF items on the menu. My wife had a GF Killarney Chicken Sandwich, and I had Bangers and Mash. Both were delicious dinners. Jacob was our server, and he patiently spent time with us talking about the area. We were pleasantly surprised to be treated to live music while we ate dinner. We ate at the Byrne's in Bath. Great Shephard's pie, bangers and cabbage. The bread that came with our meals had a Jameson's (Irish whiskey) flavor that made it delicious w the main courses. Also, the bread slice weighed like eight ounces--like heavy. But it settled in nicely. Cheesecake had real whipped cream. Great, friendly service. Very accommodating restaurant for a last minute party of 8. Service was truly excellent! I ordered a salad with smoked salmon and it was wonderful! My husband had the french onion soup and he said it was rich and delicious. He also had the BLT. It was gone in a flash! Others had the Reuben and chicken sandwiches and all were very happy! Not our first time dining here, we have had great food in the past but yesterday was a bust. The onion soup was the star of the meal . But the two sandwiches were below par . We ordered a pastrami sandwich and a Rubin . Both sandwiches came all chopped up like you would get at a sub shop . Not sliced and warm . This was grilled and chopped. . Have had them there before and they were never served like that . I would not have driven from Kennebunk if they were. The waitress was great and the restaurant is still a fun place to go . My guess the cook on Saturday originally worked for Jersey Mikes because he surely never worked in a deli or any other place that served pastrami and corn beef. We won't abandon out trips to Bath every place deserves a second shot . But I'll ask if it's sliced or chopped next time . read more

We went here on a Saturday for lunch on a recommendation from my boss. It wasn't super busy there were maybe 5-6 tables of people and the bar was mostly full. The place was very clean and cute. A nice little Irish pub. The bartender greeted us and told us to sit where ever we like. We chose a spot by the window so we could people watch. The food was DELICIOUS! We started out with what my boss told me were called Unicorn Balls. Apparently that is NOT what they are called as our server gave me a look of confusion. But when I explained them they are an item that is not on the menu but now for the life of me I can't remember what the server said they were called. They are this little deep fried balls of chicken bacon and gooey cheese. So good! Then for lunch I got the Pastrami Burger and he hubby got 10 Byrnes Hot wings. My burger was amazing!!!! It was HOT, juicy, melty and delicious. The burger was cooked to a perfect med well, the pastrami was so tender and full of flavor. The 2 types of cheese, cheddar and Swiss play perfectly with the 2 meats. Finally it's got thousand island dressing and Cole slaw(on the bottom...perfect burger construction). I ate only about 1/2 of it because it was piled high and I was so full!!! We took the rest home because cold leftover burgers and wings are the hubbies secret shame. Haha! He stated is wings were awesome. He asked the server for the recipe for the sauce because he said it was perfectly balanced. But it's a secret, as it should be. Our server was Kayla. I don't know if management will read this but you have GEM in this server!!! I worked for Disney World for 10 years as a server so I have seen really good and really bad servers. The level of this girls hustle and personality are something you don't see very often in servers anymore. She had all the tables in the restaurant. I mentioned with us there were 7 tables. We were her only 2 top the rest were 4s, 5s and I think an 8 top. She hustled! We never waited very long for anything. She was super attentive. I was so thirsty that day and kept sucking down my waters. She was still on top of it and remembered anything we asked for. Been many times to Sea Dog. Decided to stop by Byrne's today for a quick lunch. Nice selection of beer on tap. Ordered Reuben and pastrami sandwiches. Heard someone else say delicious to the corner beef hash with poached eggs and hollandaise. I was tempted to get that as it is made from scratch in house. Sandwiches came out steaming and super crispy. Would highly recommend. read more

This is coastal Maine's version of Cheers. It's where you go to play trivia (best trivia night in Maine - though the prizes famously "suck"), watch sports, and get to know the bartenders and owner (and probably the cooks and the waitresses too). You'll be impressed by the interesting microbrews on tap. The homemade desserts are like something you'd get at your grandma's house. If that's what you're expecting, you'll love it. We had dinner here since we were attending their song writers' night (very worth checking out... some great talent there) and didn't want to drag the instruments all over town. On the plus side, the place has a great array of on-tap options, including my fave, Downeast Cider. The bartender showed some real hustle. The food was hit or miss. The appetizers we had: leprechaun balls (buffalo chicken bites) and nachos were good, but not spectacular. The hubs liked his shrimp tacos, but my mac and cheese was truly awful. The cheese sauce had been overcooked, leaving the pasta rubbery and greasy, with blobs of congealed cheese throughout. Later in the night I saw someone else got the mac and cheese and theirs looked creamy, so consistency might be an issue. read more

Bynres Irish Pub is located at 16 Station Street in Brunswick, Maine (there is also another Location in Bath, ME). My GPS didn't actually recognize the street so if you happen to have the same mentally retarded GPS, then just follow the signs to the train station which is off from Maine Street and that's were you can find Bynres. The wife and I arrived at about 6:30 on a Monday night and there were only about 4 couples and some folks at the bar. This concerned me, usually at this time of night a place should be packed full and also being located 2 minutes from a local college I would expect it to be busier. However the place was very clean and we were waited on within a few minutes of seating ourselves. Bynres is decorated with an obvious Irish and local sports teams theme and its fun to sit back and take a look at the memorabilia on the walls while chugging your beer. We started our meal with a creation called Cashelmole from the appetizer menu. Half Guacamole, Half Salsa and Laced with huge hunks of Cashel Bleu Cheese, this was served with perfectly crispy toasted Pita Bread wedges. The dip started with the flavor of a creamy cool avocado and cheese but finishes with a fiery hotness that hits you in the back of the throat. It is great, and we finished the entire bowl. It is also offered on almost all the sandwiches for a small added charge. As we finished our appetizer the meal arrived right on time. Simone had ordered the Americanized Shepherds Pie. I ordered a Karls Irish Pastrami Burger, one of the house specialties. The restaurant gives the option of also upgrading your sandwich with a pretzel bun so I went ahead and did that also. My burger was excellent. Cooked perfectly medium well, it was juicy yet still dead. The burger sat on top of a bed of cool Cole slaw and was topped with a generous portion of flavorful grilled pastrami and melted Swiss which was then drizzled with Thousand Island Dressing. Half Reuben, half burger and completely good. Simones Shepherds Pie was unfortunately a disappointment. The menu says ground beef and pork simmered in Guinness Onion Gravy which sounds excellent but we both found this to be very bland. The gravy tasted like water and the mashed potatoes that topped of the pie also tasted like they had been blended in the same water. After adding lots of salt and pepper the dish was a bit better but still sub par for an Irish Pub that should specialize in dishes such as this. So overall, regarding the food I will refer to the timeless recording artist Meatloaf (which is also one of my favorite foods), "Don't be sad cause two out of three ain't bad". Two very good dishes, one below average equals out to 3.5 stars for me. We will probably be back but not for the Shepard's Pie read more

This pub in Brunswick is right next to the train station. Good for a drink while waiting to embark on your journey, or just to meet friends. The restaurant is one open room with no partitions. This causes sound to jumble. When it is busy, it can be a cacophony of noise. The walls are filled with generic beer signs and mirrors.There are some unique items for decorations, but for the most part, it is a bar trying to look Irish. On certain days, they have Irish pipes and drums from the public safety corp. This is a nice event, just not a time to enjoy dinner in a quiet location. The food is ok. There is nothing special about it. It isn't bad, but it can be salty and tastes generic. It is like many Irish themed bars, that are trying to capture a nostalgia and an aesthetic of what Americans believe Irish is. Service is good here. They are prompt and attentive. The manager is affable and pays attention to the customers. Overall, it is a good place. read more

One guy was doing the bar as well as the tables, and he did fine since so few people were there. The food was basic, nothing to exciting, but competently prepared. Place was clean. But there isn't much Irish Pub atmosphere unless there's at least a bit of a crowd. I need to check if they do take-out because that would be a great option for food for the bus or train. Whoever put $$$$ in the price category is off-base, the place is about the same as most others of its type. -------------Followup---------------- Returned on May 28 at about 5:30 to a very full place, server was great, food came quickly despite crowd. One of our party has a veggie wrap which she said was very good, I had this open face pastrami type thing which was decent . Someone else had the Bangers & Mash and reported it was authentically Irish, i.e. boring. Fourth person had a BLT which was reported as good. I went here with my son for lunch. He got this huge footlong hotdog and he liked. It was a slow day, but we had a nice time. The staff were pleasant and the food was decent at an okay price. There were a group of elderly women playing cards and they looked like they were having a great time. But, I give the bartender a 5. One of the women was leaving the building and had a dizzy spell and fell...the bartender was there in a split second and tended to her, now that to me was awesome!! read more

Went on a Sunday hoping to watch one of the 4pm football games but it happened to be the night they had the songwriters so couldn't turn up volume on game. Went last month 3/2013 expecting good food after hearing a review on TV but came away disappointed by how average it was. We only had sandwiches but how can they screw them up. The bread tasted and seemed commercially bland, meat was grocery deli like, thin and no taste and the sauce was non-existent. Lots of beer choices but everything was dirty including the menu. Stopped by for lunch today, a beautiful fall afternoon. I sat on the patio and enjoyed a bowl of Irish onion soup. I'm an onion soup snob and this one grabbed my attention by adding cashel (Irish blue cheese) to the dish. The bite of the blue complimented the savory broth exceptionally well. Definitely worth the stop, so good in fact that I took a bowl of their beef chili to-go for dinner. I wasn't disappointed, it was rich with just a bit of kick.
