I was born and raised in Maine and come back a couple times a year to see my mom here in Brunswick. I hadn't been yet to the Ram and Bull which took over a previous restaurant spot, and decided to give it a try based on the fact that one of their weekly specials was lobster stew. Let me be clear, I am typically disappointed over and over by the lobster stew I have in Maine. In my mind, it should be classic, with milk, butter, Sherry, and lobster meat. I've been searching for this version from my childhood for the past 30+ years and I finally found it here. Have they added a tiny garnish of rosemary to the top? Yes. Does it make me angry or detract from the sweet perfect flavors of the stew? No. And the lobster meat in the stew was tender, as it should be, rather than having simmered way too long and being tough and chewy. Their crabcakes also were nice and generous, although I don't love the spicy remoulade (I feel it's too strong for delicate crab flavor) and the texture was a bit soft for me. I'm looking forward to being back during my stay and trying more items from the menu! Oh, and don't sleep on the service here, it was excellent. From several people asking me how my meal was or just saying hello, to the amazing Travis behind the bar with his big fabulous personality. Yay! read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun eatery with some unexpected vegetarian options. The hubby and I stopped in for a weekday lunch with a friend who'd been there before. It had that classic old timey tavern look, with lots of dark polished wood, and their menu, featuring comfort/pub fare, was in keeping with the ambiance. I had their crab cakes, which weren't too bready or greasy and came with a tasty spicy creamy sauce. I also had a cup of their tomato soup, which had tiny grilled cheese sandwich bites on a skewer perched on the bowl--such a fun idea! Accompanied by a glass of crisp chenin blanc, it was an awesome lunch. The hubby enjoyed his beet Reuben, which isn't something you see on a lot of menus. Our friend had the chicken pot pie, which he thought was just so-so. He liked the puff pastry crust but the filling didn't quite do it for him. Always a great meal at ram and bull! I have dined in many times and they are always accommodating for myself and my two children (I usually have to bring my stroller for my baby.) I love adding blackened haddock to any of the salads, the crab cakes are very flavorful, the butternut squash ravioli is one of my favorites too! This is a really nice spot to have drinks and dinner with friends or family in downtown Brunswick. It fits large or small groups has different seating areas from the bar area in the center to the front dining room or the booth in the back. There was plenty of street parking available. Not sure what the parking situation would be like during peak tourist time but we were fine during this time of the year. Service was great and all of our food came out pretty quickly. read more

Went out on a Thursday night, spur of the moment, to comfort a grandchild who really, really wanted a burger. We had been wanting to try it, and decided this was the day. I ordered the French dip - which was pretty good; flavor of the au jus wasn't great, but it was good! The smash burger looked good, and it was gone quickly. We were kind of disappointed in the potato wedges, a bit on the dry side. The greatest part was that we shared the skillet cookie - very yummy. We will try it again, maybe for lunch. One of my favorite places to eat in the whole area, excellent cocktails and a really well thought out menu that's kept me coming back regularly. Gets updated and added to here and there, the elote dip is an instant order every time I come and their crabcakes are solid as well. The sweet potato ravioli with cream sauce gets upgraded often and it's one of my go to's for entrees, though their smash burgers and especially their prime rib sandwich are excellent and well worth a try. It's priced for the area, so definitely a nicer night out but I've always felt like I got what I paid for and anyone I bring here always wants to come back. read more

Took my and daughter out to celebrate my wife's birthday. We made reservations which I highly recommend on a Friday evening. Anastasia, our server was stellar, attentive without hovering. All three entrees are on my list to order again. We were sated very near the entrance os it was a tad loud due to the customers waiting to be seated. That said, it's a pub, it's Friday night, it stands to reason sitting near the door might be a bit loud. On my next visit I'll see if I can find a seat that's a tad quieter. read more

This Lead to a Bit of a Boring Sandwich with Simply Lettuce & Pickles Remaining yet Better Than Any Other Local Chicken Sandwich I've had. The Chicken was Juicy While Not Too Salty and the Buttered Brioche Bun Was Very Good. I'm not a Big French Fry Person and Their Seasoned Fries are Top Notch Excellent for Sure. The Hostess had My Food Ready Upon My Arrival and Greeted Me with a Smile. Pros: The food is really good! I definitely recommend the Fried Haddock sandwhich. I have really appreciated that every time I ate there the host has always been wearing a face mask. They(?) were also so accommodating when I asked to sit away from other patrons as my partner is immunocompromised. Cons: WAY to loud. I could barely think. I've switched to takeout just to avoid the absolute assault on my senses I get at this place. PLEASE get some noise absorbent wall art / ceiling panels or something!! Disappointing at best. Overpriced for its dinky portions, service minimal, gf breading is salty, terrible. Onions "straws" are leftover fried bits at the bottom of the fryer- certainly no onion in them. Was rly looking forward to this location re-opening but it was such a let down. I have been twice- the 1st time was for lunch. I had a hamburger with a gluten free bun. Everything except the bun was delicious. It's hard to find a good gluten free bun- it's not worth the extra money. The serving of fries was huge. I left more than 1/2 on my plate. Next time I would request less fries because they just were waisted. I love all the gluten free options. The 2nd visit I had fish and chips - gluten free! It was delicious. The serving was large enough for 2 people so I have lunch for tomorrow. The restaurant is a bit noisy. Sitting in the corner by the window I found it to be quieter. Opening weekend at the Ram & Bull in Brunswick (formerly Joshua's location). Online reservations were not available on the website, so I left a voicemail. Didn't hear back, so I used the contact us to make reservation, and received an email confirmation. Sadly, when we arrived, our reservation had been taken by another party in error (not sure if stolen or innocent mistake ) We had to wait, but tried to be good sports about it. Finally got seated about 20 minutes later. Surprisingly not even an offer of a comped soft drink. The place is very noisy, so had to shout to try to have a conversation at the table. The place was clean and cleverly decorated though. The saving grace was the food. Best French dip I've ever eaten! Although there is a bar, they would only make drinks on the menu. I mention again that this was the first Saturday of this new restaurant, so I have hope that they can work out the kinks. The food is top notch, so I will definitely give it another go. read more

I'm a big fan of this pub. Service has always been welcoming and I have enjoyed all my meals. The only time that was a miss was when we mistakenly went during Bowdoin alumni weekend. Just a long wait for the food, but they were gracious and gave us a free app. We will go back often and bring guests. You can get a nice salad or burger, enough options for all. Glad they've moved in to this space. If you like IPAs, and while Maine has numerous delicious ones, I am a fan of the CT IPA on tap, delicious and hazy--Fat orange cat baby kittens is the name which is too fun not to order. I called ahead of time and Order a $20 cheeseburger it was supposed to have a pickle some lettuce and a tomato on it with some onions they were supposed to come with it it did not come with a tomato it did not come with a pickle I had no lettuce that had way too much mayonnaise practically dripping they squash my burger out to the point it was falling apart and the bread was soggy then when I came in to get the order and handed them the money the waitress just said Thank you and didn't even offer me my change back so I gave her no tip and I will never be returning here again this was an extreme disappointment ..!!!!, if I wasn't so hungry I wouldn't have even bothered eating the burger it was gross !!! read more

It was a girls night out last night and we chose the Ram and Bull. You couldn't get a better waitress than Mary. Very friendly!! She had a smile on her face from beginning to end. Mary gave us all the time we needed to choose from the yummy menu. Mary was very attentive and the food was scrumptious. All three of us ordered something different for meals and dessert and we did not have any complaints about anything. I can't wait to go back and try something different. Wow wow wow! So excited to have this place around. There are so few elevated casual dining spots in this area and there's obviously a huge demand as they've been real busy ever since opening a couple of weeks ago. I've already been in 3 times and I've had nothing but wonderful experiences each time. The first time I swung through solo and got a little two-top by the bar with no wait. I had the French Dip sandwich and it was the best I've had. That onion au jus is to die for. The next time my partner and I sat at the bar and we really enjoyed the bustling atmosphere. It almost felt as though we were tourists in a new city. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was perfect. Then, just last night, I went with a couple of friends. We sat in the window right by the street and again the food was so tasty. They were slammed, but the staff were still attentive and friendly. I ordered the haddock sandwich and my dinner mates got the burger and the banh mi and everybody was real happy. I am so grateful to be able to go to a really good local place now. It's obvious the menu was thought out and they put a lot of effort and care into the renovation and intention into the bar and cocktail list. There is a MASSIVE difference in quality and flavor compared to other area restaurants with a similar price point. I'm looking forward to my next visit already. We just flew in from Chicago, after visiting our daughter for a few days. We had some delicious meals in Chi Town and this meal at Ram & Bull in New Brunswick was as pleasing. We arrived around 6 pm and it was bustling on a Sunday night. We sat at the bar and had excellent service from Jia (sp) and Phil. My Harvest Bowl hit the spot (and so pretty!) with veggies, cranberries, pepitas and beets. Filling and nurturing. My husband loved his Cuban, a good balance with all of the ingredients and flavors. Raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing was perfect! Not over sweetened. Fries are great!
