We started with guac topped with fried grasshopper which I was excited to have my friend try. The grasshoppers were nicely fried and pretty meaty seasoned with lime and salt. By themselves they were a bit salty but good with the guac to balance it out. The chips were nicely fried and homemade as well. For entrees we shared the chicken mole and tlayuda with tasajo which reminded me of flank steak. The chicken mole was yummy with a hint of spice and came with rice and torillas. The tlayuda was good as well similar to a quesadilla with a thinner, crispier toasted tortilla filled with cheese and beans. The steak itself was a little dry along with the tlayuda itself but overall a good meal to eat some traditional Oaxacan food.

The croissant with dulce de leche was one I surprisingly loved. I am not a big caramel fan but this pastry has just the right amount. We were warmly greeted by the staff and multiple inquiries were made regarding anything to drink. First, we settled on water and Coke Zero, but eventually got a pour of Cascahuin and also a Carajillo. The bartender was amazing! It seemed as if the drink orders were endless, but watching him make drink and drink and get the orders ready was like an art. And that Carajillo was delicious! For food, we opted for the Pescado A La Sal (for 2 people), grilled veggies with goat cheese, and shrimp cocktail (small) with saladitas. We were also given a basket of bread. And at the beginning, as a starter, we were given a chicken appetizer with tortillas and lime to enjoy. In all, thr portions were perfect and the food was delicious. The small shrimp cocktail was small enough to hold us over for the main course, the fish. The veggies were the perfect compliment to the fish. And that fish was probably the best I've ever tasted. It was comparable to some I've had elsewhere, but at a fraction of the cost! For dessert, we opted for the chocolate mousse, but that was very rich and a bit to sweet for me. All in all, impeccable service, great staff, and the quality of the food was top notch. We also enjoyed the piano player behind us adding to the atmosphere. Speaking of our setup, they had put down linens for our meal, something I'm not used to seeing for a bar meal. It was a nice touch. I say that will full certainty and it's the meal that I keep telling my friends about now when I'm asked about the food in CDMX. My maternal grandma is from Oaxaca, so when her sister recommended this place for Oaxacan food in the heart of Mexico City, I was definitely excited, as I knew that she is an expert in authentic Oaxacan cuisine. We ordered: - Tlayuda de 3 carnes (cecina enchilada, tasajo, chorizo) - Mole negro con pollo - Prickly pear ice cream & "burnt milk" ice cream - Chilacayote, Tejate, & Horchata drinks Let me tell you -- I am not generally a huge fan of mole. In fact, if there are other options, I tend to pick anything other than mole. But when my aunt told me that I HAD to try it, I listened, and oh man, am I glad that I listened. This was the most flavorful, chocolate-y, delicious mole that I've ever had in my life. It had great consistency (I tend to dislike the thickness of mole sauce) and just an overall amazing blend of flavors. The rice was also delicious, I know rice seems like a simple dish, but when you grow up in Mexican culture, you know GOOD rice, and trust me, this is GREAT rice. My mom's tlayuda was INTENSE. When it came out, I specifically remember my mouth dropping, because it was HUGE and looked absolutely delicious. The cecina enchilada was full of flavor and not necessarily spicy, but I could taste the range of spices used and it made for a very unique dish. The chorizo was probably the best tasting chorizo that I've had in Mexico so far. Let me finish with the sweet stuff - please trust me, and try the Chilacayote drink. It's a mix of stringy squash and pineapple, I don't know how to describe it, but it was absolutely delicious. The burnt milk ice cream was my favorite, I know it sounds odd, but it was creamy and flavorful and I definitely recommend for anyone to try this unique flavor. I am SO glad I gave this place a solid chance, the foodie in me was SO satisfied, and I recommend this place to ANYONE visiting CDMX!
