Our Morgan silver dollar from 1882 as scanned in CoinSnap.
    Jeri S.

My daughter and I had a large number of silver dollars, silver dimes, silver half dollars and other coins dating back to 1882. When we looked up the value/condition of the coins, we were able to peg the value for each since all had been in circulation. We used an app called CoinSnap, which scans both sides of the coin, identifies it and assesses its condition against current value ranges. For example, the 1882 Morgan Dollar was rated F-12 (Fair-12), as all detail was readable but it was obviously not in terrific condition. The range value for Morgan Silver Dollars from that era was $36-79; CoinSnap assigned $40 to our Morgan. We did that on each coin in the pile. None were "strike it rich" types of coins, but a few were assessed at "almost uncirculated condition" with values over $100. Even the Eisenhower dollars and Kennedy half dollars (most were nickel wrapped copper) from various years were valued at $4-8 apiece. We knew selling coins needs to have a win for the buyer so we devalued our cache (pun intended) by 30%. We took several coins with we knew might only be worth face value. All in all, the conservative dollar value of our little collection was in the range of $700. We were not prepared for what awaited us at C&C. We selected C&C based on Yelp and Google reviews. I had grown up with a father who was an avid coin and stamp collector. He had me help him with his collections regularly. I cataloged new acquisitions and sales. I learned a lot about what to look for, proofs and uncirculated coins, error coins, mints, etc. When we walked into the store, the cases in the front were full of coins and other collectibles. I'm sure we looked like rubes from the hills somewhere because these coins were inherited from my in-laws, and collecting age and dust in a cash box since they passed. We had sorted them into plastic bags so it was easier to see the silver from the more recent nickel-wrapped copper coins. The first thing the person who greeted us did was to dump all our coins into a pile on his counter and started talking about the price of silver and that the Eisenhower and Kennedy coins were only worth their face value. Etc etc etc. Perhaps this is common practice now but it was more similar to a pawn shop approach to collectible coin trading than it was to the last place I had been with some of my dad's coins after he passed away in 1978. That shop respectfully cross-referenced each coin, its condition, along with our written Inventory and gave us a fair price based on the collectible value of the coins minus a decent margin for the store. I asked the guy why wasn't he looking up the value of the coins against their condition. I showed him the app and how it had scanned in the coins. He said "that's nice but not how we do it here." He offered $150 for the silver, didn't give two whits about their age or condition, and offered to take the Eisenhower and Kennedy coins and give us paper bills for them. We also had a very interesting collection of paper currency from multiple countries that was signed by servicemen during WWII. When I researched this, I found they were highly collectible. My husband and his dad were both military, and I thought a shop that traded in collectible items should be interested in the historical value of the bills. He said he would take them "off our hands" for $30, because "the only people who would want them" would be WWII memorabilia collectors. Perhaps our experience was framed by my own naïveté, because it's been 45 years since I sold some of my dad's collection, and perhaps this shop is used to people wanting to get gold and silver cashed in so they can buy food, booze or drugs or pay the electric bill. That's common out here. However, how do they deal with stamps and other memorabilia? What do they do with the coins after buying them from us for minimal value? Assess their true value and resell them in the shop? I don't know but it's just a hunch. It was a wholesale disappointing experience and one that I would not recommend repeating.

The finished product thanks to them! [Taken 5-17-14]

They cheat on price and fees. Unlike other coin shops, they always have a large inventory of coins. It was convenient. Be careful!!!

The amount of stuff in this mall is out of control -- my upcycling brain was on overdrive as I wandered about - so many options to give all this old stuff new life! The neighborhood is a little sketchy -- when I came in some lady was being accused of shoplifting and on the way out she was knocking things over and screaming at the top of her lungs - so that was something, LOL. They do have a little information kiosk when you arrive where you can grab a piece of paper that has a map of the store (the aisles have street names) and you can remind yourself where you saw something. They also have a little relaxation area with tables and chairs and restrooms -- which was nice, I always need to use the restroom! And it was well maintained. I did go right before Christmas and the place, to my surprise, was packed and the checkout line was very very long! But they seemed to be cycling people through fairly quickly. I didn't end up getting anything because I was on a schedule and didn't have time to really absorb it all -- so I will definitely be back when I have more time!

Sweet! I came in here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am and the back parking lot was almost already full! This place is popular and people know about this spot. I love their concept and they have a lot on offer especially now being the holidays! I spent a good hour looking at things and hopped in line around 11:30am and the line to pay was growing pretty long. Their process to purchase items is that you get a number at the door and then when you want something, find a helpful staff and they will take your items to the front for you. A nice concept especially if youre buying large items like furniture. Hard to describe what the style is here, maybe I could call it hobo cique or something like that. Either way, I found myself with a good amount of items and this place is lovely to holiday shop for friends and loved ones! Definitely come check it out! Its an awesome unique place with one of a kind items!
