I've been into this place twice. The first time ima to get a Cartier bracelet polished. The first thing this guy does is grab his loup and starts evaluating the authenticity of the bracelet. I didn't ask him to. I wasn't there for authentication services. I know because I night it from Cartier. He has comments like "are you sure this is real?" I'm not sure if it is? Where did you buy it?" Blah blah blah... dude. I'm here to get it polished. Period. I left and took it to another jeweler to get polished. A couple weeks ago I go back to have him give me an offer on a 1.10ct VS1 G color diamond in a platinum setting. Real mined diamond. And the cost to mount a single lab diamond in an earring setting. The moment I hand him the lab diamond... again with his unsolicited opinions... "I hope you don't pay anymore than about $175 to 200 for this... lab diamonds are sooo cheap blah blah blah" DUDE... I don't ask your opinion. I asked what you'd charge me to mount it. If you want unsolicited advice/opinions.... HES YOUR GUY!! PS his offer on that diamond set in platinum was $700. Interesting how you thought a 25 year old ring was a lab diamond (lab diamonds didn't exist 25 years ago) that you offered $700 for set in platinum but in the same visit you told me you rendered your opinion on what I should have paid for the lab diamond I had. Save it. My message remains the same. I went there twice thinking you went out of business and there was a new jeweler but you merely moved around the corner. (PS another jeweler offered 200% of what you offered.) Maybe if someone asks you "do you think this is fake?" Or "what should I pay for a lab diamond..." You answer them. I had an elderly neighbor, who is no longer with us, who bragged on the store where he got all his watch batteries replaced. That is all I knew of Mr. Goldman's store. Sometime back, I bought two Anne Klein watches for my two nieces as gifts when they were old enough for such things. This Christmas, I decided it was the time. This afternoon, Christmas eve, at three in the aft, I realized that the watches needed batteries. There are two jewelers near me bu remember what Charlie always said. Mr Goldman was open and was kind enough to replace the batteries. When he told me the price, I asked him to add $10 to the amount he was charging me for doing it late and on Christmas eve. He said it wasn't necessary and as I was leaving, he put a closed sign-up and locked the door. I got the impression he was ready to leave when I walked in. Thank you, Mr. Goldman for staying. He store is not large but I got the impression from looking around that if you were looking for something, he could find it. I can tell you he kindly made my holiday much nicer. I will go back there. First and Last visit! Jay said he could replace the battery on my grandfather's watch in a week(had to order the battery). He said he would throw the band in the cleaner for "half a day" at no charge, because it was not a big deal...He had my watch for 5 WEEKS!! No calls. No updates! I stopped in to just get it back, fixed or not. He told me it was still at his watchmaker, apologized, and said he could get it back by Monday...As soon as I got back home, he called. It had been filed under the wrong letter - HE is the one who wrote down my name in the first place! So, I drove back to get it. It works now, Thank you Jay. BUT after all of that time, he Still Did Not Clean The Band! 5 WEEKS!! He could have, no SHOULD have cleaned the band, first thing! He also should have called me a couple of weeks ago, with a status update. How is this place still in business?! I will not be going back to Jay ever again. Jay has done well by me three times. First, I had a number of items to sell, including two good, older watches. He made me a very fair offer that was far superior to another local jeweler who advertisers as a specialist in such things. The second time, I had some odd items, including a charm bracelet of my mothers for which I had no use. Jay evaluated it and, again, made me an offer in excess of what I expected. The third time, I had three watches that needed minor repairs. He took care of all of them for a pittance. This is a great little shop. If you have jewelry or items for sale, give them a chance to make you an offer. You will not regret it. The same if you need repairs. Also, although I have never purchased any items, they have an interesting selection and would probably help you find any item for what you were looking. A good and honest jeweler! I sat through all the salesmanship shpeels he had to give me and looked through the pieces he had to show me. He didn't have what I was looking for, and this was a I need something by tomorrow kind of situation, so jay and I narrowed down what I wanted and he said he would have it ordered and ready for me the next day. We ended our interaction that day exchanging phone numbers and said we'd talk the next day. The next day jay didn't call as he had promised. If I had relied on him, I would have been let down and embarrassed on Valentine's Day. Recently visited this jeweler to have a ring resized. Was quoted a resize at $80, then $85 when I brought it in to drop off. Furthermore, the gentleman told me that he keeps any gold he removes as that is included in his price. Took my Movado dress watch into Jay Goldman Jewelers on a Friday, to replace a dead battery. I brought their coupon for a Free replacement battery, from a local coupon ad packet. Trudy greeted me warmly, wrote up my repair invoice, and gave me a copy. Gave me tips on how to extend the battery life, and said the watch would be ready Monday. Sure enough, I walked in Monday afternoon, and Jay greeted me at the counter, meeting for the first time. My watch was ready, he wrapped it for me to carry. We chatted about my being new to the neighborhood, and he invited me back anytime I need anything in jewelry, or to market something on eBay, through their authorized online store. Very poor service. I took my watch in for battery replacement and it was set aside and forgotten. After two weeks and no phone call I attempted to pick it up. It was still not done. The second time I called first to find out the store is closed while the owner is on vacation. It has been a month and I still don't have my watch. I came here trying to engrave a ring. The price that the owner gave me was a little high but I was wiling to pay since it was a complicated design. After I finally got an update 2 weeks later, the owner asked my if I could go over to his shop to check out a sample. Since I work all day, I asked him if he could just email me a picture of the sample and he tried to raice the price 50$ for 1 email. He ended up rasing the price 100$ more. Here it was, an ordinary day and I had recently lost my wedding ring. We were driving by JG and I said, "let's just stop in so I can see possible settings." I had seen others on TV, etc with the halo setting, but never saw it on my hand. I walked in, and was greeted by Jay who was very welcoming. The store is small, but has a nice selection. I told Jay I would possibly be interested in the future in a halo setting diamond band w/solitaire. He pulled out the most beautiful halo band ever. I put on my finger and it was love.
