My son's civic was overheating so I brought it into Route 11 to get checked out. I let them know…read morespecifically what diagnostics had been run at a previous shop before my son left for JMU, but they said they had to run (and charge) for their own diagnostics. I get that, so I agreed with the assumption they could resolve the issue. After review, they advised me the wrong coolant was in the car (which I have trouble believing because I've always bought the same coolant and never had an issue), they advised a coolant flush was needed, they said the fans were not working, and they let me know that there was an unrelated power steering leak. Additionally, they recommended I replace the upper and lower radiator hose. They said these were not an issue, but it was probably about time. I agreed to let them do everything except the upper and lower hose being they said they were fine and not leaking. I also agreed to a dye test which included putting dye in the power steering so they could find a leak. All of this was to the tune of roughly $1,000. A few days later they said it was ready and my son picked it up. I asked him what they said about the dye test and he said they did not say anything about. I called the shop and was told, oh yeah, he should bring it back in a few days so we can see if the dye is leaking. Unfortunately, I only found out about this because I called back in. Then a few days later the car was overheating again. My son takes it back and we are told the issue is the upper and lower radiator hoses. I asked how they were fine a few days ago when they were just a "recommendations" (that I declined), but now they are the root cause of the issue. They told me they watched it and now they see after it's been on a long time the hoses swell and leak. The explanation did not sit right with me, but I'm hours away and my 18 year old son needs his car so I let them do it for another $350. However, unfortunately again, my son drives 4 hours home a few days later and the car overheats. The shop texted me and called me that day asking how it was going and wanting me to come back and get some other work done. I responded it wasn't going well and the car was overheating still. I sent them photos of the coolant under the hood, but they stopped responding. I took it to a shop locally and they diagnosed it as a bad thermostat and the car has run smooth since. I wanted to like this shop as my brother recommended them, but unfortunately I cannot recommend them as the customer service is lacking. I'd advise to find a different shop for your car repairs.

I was only temporarily in the area and needed a mechanic's help. My car was still running fine but I had a super aggravating issue of my window going down part way and getting stuck. I tried fixing it myself --I bought a replacement switch at a parts store, replaced it, all without success. The parts store recommended a new motor and regulator --I picked that up but realized it was over my head. So, I tried the dealership first, they were quick to tell me it was out of warranty but offered to "take a look" for a steep diagnostic fee. Fortunately for me, I was in the area and decided to give Gold Wrench a shot. So, I called and made an appointment. I showed up just a few minutes before my appointment and basically immediately my car was pulled around for them to set to work. How many times can you say you went to the mechanic and they were on time!? I mentioned I had replaced the switch without success and that I had the regulator/motor in the car. Everyone working here was super friendly, seemed enthusiastic about being welcoming, and about providing professional service. They also had a waiting area with a bathroom, free bottled water, and TV while you wait. Within a few minutes, the mechanic came out grinning. I thought "oh no.." but, fortunately he had good news! Turns out, I didn't need a motor/regulator change. The glue on a piece of soundproofing foam in the door had let loose during the temperature change and was physically blocking my window from going down. In the past I've been to mechanics that would have written up a massive bill (such as Miami Lakes Jeep) or told me they changed a part but didn't (Jiffy Lube in Miami). My bill was totally appropriate for their time, I left with a fully functioning window, was able to return the part I didn't need, and most of all, I found a family mechanics business that I could trust.
