The staff was attentive. They may seem a little short to some people, but they know what they're doing and work hard to make sure the horses and the people are safe. I have always though they were friendly. My 7yo and I had a great time on our second trail ride here. My daughter has done the pony rides for years and has always loved them. The people who work here are some of the nastiest, most unfriendly people I have ever encountered. The horses are irritable and dirty --the poor things are unhappy and I feel they are not well cared for. We were there for five minutes being scowled at by the workers and then left. I've visited here before and was scowled at by unfriendly people, but I figured maybe they were just having a bad day. Today was the worst. Love this place. This was my 2nd time there. The horses are gentle for beginning riders like myself. The guides are friendly. The people who run the place (owners?) are so nice. You can tell he horses are taken care of (a lot are rescue horses). The stables where they are kept is well taken care of and clean. I would 100% recommend C & L stables. read more

So it was POURING but we were determined to ride given we drove from Boston. AMAZING experience! We were matched to beautiful lovely horses and although we had to wait out the rain it was totally worth it. We chose the beach trail, got rained on along the way but definitely enjoyed the ride, the trail and the experience. Everyone at the stable was nice, informative and very helpful. Our guide Brian was sweet, answering our 100 questions and always keeping us informed along the ride with tips on how to maneuver the horses and really make the most of the experience. My handsome horse was awesome, very well trained and hardly had to do anything other than enjoy myself and keep my balance. I already told my mom she was coming with me next so yea HIGHLY recommend. This was an awesome place to learn how to ride. I took my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday and he's never been on a horse. We did an hour long tour on the trail and along the beach. We both had a wonderful time! The horses were well behaved and the instructors were awesome. Lee, the owner even did a wonderful job matching our personalities to the right horses! I was a little nervous since I haven't rode in years and they were all very supportive and nice to make sure I had a good time. I highly recommend this place for any skill level! I gave my four nieces a trail ride here and was extremely happy with the service! The girls were treated to a great ride with some trotting and horse sense . Saturday morning we arrived at the pony ring in Goddard Park. The website stated they start pony rides at 10. We got there at 10:30 and nothing was going on. By 11 the ponies were out. It's $5 for 5 minutes- very reasonable. There is a sign in sheet. There were two ponies and two attendants, who were very nice. The kids enjoyed their rides. Just beware: there is a multi-colored cat who is apparently quite mean living at the barn. She was really nice to my daughter but after we had already met her they warned us she is mean. Also, behind the pony ring there is an opening which looks like a secret garden it's covered in poison ivy so don't go wandering around! Huge puddle near the actual stable with lots of tadpoles for the kids to gawk at! Yee Haw! read more

I don't really do reviews, but this place was amazing. The crew that they have is funny and outgoing, the horses are gorgeous, and the pricing is unbeatable. We paid $30 for an hour ride, there wasn't much of a wait at all, and the whole time the women were talking to us. It was just a great atmosphere! Excellent trail riding experience, caters to all levels. Went for a ride with my boyfriend and cousin, both intermediate riders, while I'm advanced. We did the 1.5 hour beach cove ride. It was only $45, a complete steal compared to Newport Equestrian Academy, which quoted us $100 each for a lesser ride with only walking on a road near the beach. At C & L stables everyone was very friendly and professional. The horses were in great shape and very clean and well cared for. We had a private guide at no extra cost who was friendly and knowledgeable. She took us walking, trotting, and cantering through the scenic and quiet trails of Goddard Park and onto a beautiful long stretch of beach around the cove. The horses were safe, but energetic and happy to be out on the ride. Perfect in every respect! Tip: Ask for Cathleen if you can she was a terrific guide! read more

They were running a little short staffed so we had to wait a bit past our reservation time to get started, but it was well worth the wait. My friends and I came to Rhode Island for a few days on vacation and the bay side beach horseback riding was on the top of our list of things to do since there's nothing like it in the city. We were beyond satisfied. At $45 for 1 hour and 15 minutes, the prices are reasonable and the staff are wonderful. We had Jimmy and Kathleen as our tour guides and they are as good as they get. None of us had any horseback riding experience but Jimmy and Kathleen walked us through everything and made sure that we were comfortable and safe. I went here with my daughter and 10 year old granddaughter for my birthday last week. Not only was the service the most unfriendly experience I've ever received, they cut our time basically in half because THEY must've been running behind schedule. My granddaughter also at one point had to go to the bathroom, which then the unfriendly woman (who I think might be the owner) proceeded to huff and buff and clearly not trying to be discreet about it. I will never come back here. If you don't like your job, quit. If we are only going to get half of what we paid for, then give me half of my money back. read more

BEWARE OF CAT signs throughout the property alarmed a relative in my party who has a fear of cats. We inquired when we arrived over the phone and the stable woman said, it's for people to know not to touch the cats and has had cats stolen before. We explained gently that a person in our party had a phobia, anxiety mounting, and two of us got out the car to talk in person to see how many cats were roaming the property. The Stable woman was extremely dismissive and immediately snapped " so it's just going to be the 2 of you then?!" The cat will just come out, say Hi, and go". We explained that was what we wanted to avoid and instead of presenting options or offering to check on the whereabouts of the cats she proceeded to share an anecdote impersonating the last person she encountered with a fear. We did not indulge this display. My mom replied, we will need to cancel. And she threw up her arms walked, away saying well now she can call others on the waiting list. It's my birthday today. We drove to Rhode Island from Connecticut to have some fun. I rarely ever post bad reviews but her rudeness was jawdropping. read more

My husband and I went riding here during our honeymoon. It was a wonderful experience! We both had never ridden before but they made us feel like we were pros. The land was gorgeous, our guide was great, and the horses were perfect. My only complaint would be when we first arrived and got out of our vehicle. We walked up to the barn where there were a bunch of people standing around and giving pony rides to the kids. We felt awkward and didn't know who to talk to or what to do. We just kinda wandered a little until somebody asked if we were the 1:30 ride. But other than that I would definitely go back and recommend this place to anyone. read more
