Kayaking isn't something I'm familiar with. Anyone who knows me knows I have two left feet, and swimming isn't my strong suit. The AWESOME team at Osprey Sea & Surf made me feel so comfortable, and had me kayaking a 2.5 hour trip up the Westport River with some pretty basic, but useful instructions. This was a lot of fun, and $65 is a fair price point considering it is hassle-free, and everything you need is included. You can't really compare to the beautiful views either. read more

Unimpressed. Despite stating that they wash kayaks between each use, ours had a paper towel left in it from the prior guest. Also, one member of our party had a kayak that seemed very low quality and as if it was warped. It was crowded and kayaks were booked one after the other...felt extremely rushed and over commercialized. I would not rent here again, there are enough other alternatives. Ease of getting into and out of the water were fine and the scenery was very pretty. You are passing tons of other people though. And that makes it somewhat close quarters during pandemic. read more

Love this place! Showed up yesterday without a reservation around 2 pm and had 2 and 1/2 hours in the water. i really wanted to try stand up paddle boarding however due to the low tide they suggested we kayak instead. No biggie... i packed a cooler with lunch and drinks and it fit right inside our kayak. It was perfect! It cost almost 60$ for one kayak with two seats. My paddle did pick up some seaweed and our kayak got stuck a couple times due to the low tide. It didn't take us long to figure out the path we needed to take. The scenery was so beautiful and the water; glassy. Green trees and cat tails on both sides of the channel. Be on the lookout for rocks ahead.. we weren't paying attention and collided with one but we just used our paddle to push away. The staff are all very nice and helpful. Let's face it, the bread and butter of any kayak place is the casual tourist and this place does a great job outfitting recreational paddlers. Being about 40ft. from the river, you can get outfitted and go right out. I happen to be interested in taking up more serious sea kayaking. I've taken a couple lessons here and the instruction is superb. I spent 20 years as a ski coach and have a handful of certifications and accreditations as a sports coach so I know what's important when coaching. I wanted to get outfitted so I could adopt the sport and was able to get a good deal on a used boat and get top quality gear to go with it. The staff were great at helping me pick out my gear. I'd recommend Osprey to anyone who just wants to paddle for an hour or two, take a tour, or learn to do serious sea kayaking and purchase gear. read more

Situated over the pristine marshes and picturesque rural landscape of the East Head of the Westport River, you'll find a small gem of a nature adventure destination in Osprey. The shop provides trips, kayak and surf instruction and rentals for sea, surf and river. We were particularly drawn to the new sport of paddle boarding. Need a lesson, no problem, they have 2 hour rental & lesson combos twice a week for $55 total. For equipment, kayaks are rented by the half day (3 hrs)/full day (6 hrs) and paddle boards are hourly. Call ahead! Being 1.5 hours away from Boston we were an hour late due to the busy Southernly weekend traffic, however, the owner very kindly extended our reservation every time we called. Great for big and little folk too. Toilet facility is a no frills porter potty but you can rinse off with nifty camp shower bags and change in the changing room. Bring lots and lots of sunblock. After burning off all those calories, the country store across the way provides a great deal of snacks and delicious frozen lemonade to quench your thirst for fuel. An afternoon quietly paddling along the river with nothing but the sound of corn silk blowing in the wind, birds and the warm summer sun as we made the 2 mile journey to the ocean. A serious modern take on Mark Twain's rafting adventure. All that was missing, a good straw hat and a pair of overalls. The piece of wild grass you can pick up along the way. Huckleberry Finn would be ever so jealous. read more

Came by on a absolutely gorgeous day last Saturday without a reservation (not great planning..) and looking to rent a SUP for the afternoon. After taking a few minutes to go out back and check out the inventory, the woman who was waiting on me came back with a thumbs up. Board was available!! Not only was I outfitted with the board, the flotation pack and the leash - they were able to help out my friend who was having issues with her own blow up board. The river has the most beautiful scenery, with turtles, crab, and fish everywhere. My friend and I had the most enjoyable time paddling and chatting away that we failed to really note how far we had got and that the current we paddled with was fairly strong. Until it was time to go back... Fortunately, one of the guides that works for the shop was guiding a few kayakers and told us that the current was pretty strong and if we wanted, we could paddle further up river and catch a van. Not wanting to return my board after dark... we took up this offer! Prices were beyond reasonable, the staff were accommodating, helpful and friendly and the day was a blast. Loved kayaking down the river- bring food and park the kayaks to eat lunch. Very pretty and the rental place is great. Worth doing.

This place is great! Sam was very helpful with finding us the right class for us to try Stand Up Paddle boarding. We took the 1.5 hour long semi-private class. Our instructor, Kate, was equally as great. She was able to adapt the class to focus on board skills we had difficulties with. We will definitely be visiting Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures again soon! The folks at Osprey were very helpful for us; called the day before, looking for a kayak outing with a guest from out of town. They put together a Sunset Tour for us on the spot (7 people) and we had a pleasant 2 hour paddle on the most beautiful river ever. Saw a blue heron and lots of other water birds...the boats themselves were awesome, clean, and well-maintained. Good instruction and equipment. Very easy and pleasant, and the people couldn't have been more accommodating. Go for a beautiful trip on the river...you'll enjoy it. read more

I have been here several times and it is a great outfitter with staff that are very knowledgeable. They offer good equipment for a decent price along with tours. They are great for beginners and more advanced kayakers. The location is near the ocean so you can go ocean kayaking or you can fight the tides down the river for a good workout and a chance to see plenty of the local wildlife. read more

We had an awesome time last Wednesday! Showed up with our 5 young children and Gus outfitted us all with life vests, paddles and kayaks--such a kind young man and super helpful! It was a very relaxing time on the river, didn't see any way we could have gotten lost and that made me relax, too :). Also, we came in probably 30-45 minutes after our hour had ended and the kind owner told us not to worry about paying the difference. We were pleasantly surprised and very grateful! I called this place to get information, later when i go up there after a 35 minute drive I was told that the tide was too low and if we really wanted to enjoy it to come back around 230. I agreed and said yea I'll do that. When I come back around 230 they acted like they didn't even speak to me earlier and if I had a reservation. I told them no I was never told that I should make a reservation you just told me to come back. They informed me that they were all booked up. I was very upset why tell me to come back if you didn't at least reserve it on your end and you are booked up. Meanwhile there were tons of kayaks. The customer service was just very poor. They were very rude. I'm glad I drove and wasted gas to be treated so rudely. I definitely won't be returning and make sure anyone else I know doesn't either. read more

I see there are a few good reviews here, but beware. The people working here have much to be desired. I had reservations for 2 kayaks (doubles) for 4 hours. They said it was all set. I got a call later that day to say they did not have 2 doubles. I was told we could go at 1:30 instead. We showed up at 1:30 that day and then we were told we were in the book for 10:00. I reminded them that they changed it, and I got a "ah, okay". We got back before the 4 hours which we had reserved, but then caught holy heck for arriving back after 4:30. For that we had to pay a late fee. I was confused because we reserved for 4 hours starting at 1:30 so when we returned at 5:00 I thought we were fine. Nope! The gal working even said to my kids and I that they weren't "dicks" (great customer service, huh?) around there, so they wouldn't charge the $100 late fee, but only $50. It's really too bad the service was bad, because the place has lots of potential. It was a very serene river to kayak. If you bring a lunch, keep in mind you can't bring your kayak over to the river bank because it's all private property (or, at least that's what the gal at Osprey told me when I asked about stopping somewhere along the river). If you go, it's enjoyable, but be prepared for poorly trained staff. I emailed the owner and he was kind enough to get back to me to apologize at least. Nevertheless, our next rental will be elsewhere. read more
