I had a fabulous time listening to some blues and R&B vibes while at C-Boys Heart & Soul. Opened by the people behind another legendary Austin live music spot, the Continental Club, it has a cool story behind it. Warm, red vibes abound in this chill music venue. Great live music show that started right on time and had the crowd hooked right in. Some people bopped a bit, others just stood swaying. There are a few tables and seats but it's minimal so if you go to a show, prepare to stand. There is usually a cover charge but check their calendar for exact artists playing and prices. It has dive bar vibes with a good selection of beers, and that includes 0% NA Heinekens which we appreciated. Bartender was on top of things and kept us happy. The swankiest club on South Congress. This club just screams swank. I even read the magazine Swank and see all that they're talking bout here. This place is a juke-joint that specializes in live music, has a big ol' outside patio, with a food truck. The place seems to be the renovated, or newly moved, or something- the Armadillo World Headquarters, which was an important Texas music movement featuring Jerry Jeff Walker and Willie Nelson. There's like no parking here. When I came, a donkey came in the back door and started jamming to the live music with its human friend. The upstairs bar is much less crowded, with a Japanese GI bar vibe. It's got this south pacific kinda feeling that makes the beer go down better. When I went, Texas was in the midst of a Lone Star Beer shortage. Fortunately, they found one last long neck to serve up to Dale Watson as he played at the outdoor stage. Ding! read more

Will take your order then purposely walk to other people who are older and serve them first, the walk back to you and look at you straight in the eyes and say "sorry man? I'm busy" in a passive aggressive manner, and still not serve you your drink. Whatever he's got going on internally/self hatred, is not good for the customers and he needs therapy. We went on a Tuesday night. Like most bars, they do not allow dogs in so Molly and I hung out on the patio and listened to the music inside. The patio has plenty of seating and a food truck. My home club is the Mohawk. But I may just have to make room for a second home club. * * * C-Boys occupies a unique niche in the Austin nightclub scene. In a city with 6,439 nightclubs, that is saying quite a lot. C-Boys is a rhythm and blues/soul/funk club in a town dominated by rock and roll, alt, hip hop, and Americana. Bands that play at C-Boys don't show up in a lot of other places in Austin. * * * C-Boys is also A CLUB WHERE PEOPLE OLDER THAN 25 DO HIGH QUALITY DANCING. I SAY, WELL HEY! Most "Dad-Bod and Old Chick" bars have middle aged folks sitting around doing nothing. They talk among themselves or listen to the band. Their asses are firmly nailed to their chairs. If they got up and danced, they would probably wrench a knee or overload their pacemakers. You wouldn't want to have to call an ambulance out to the club. * * * If you want to see amazing older dancers, you have to go to Texas Swing Dance Halls. At the White Horse, there are 70 year old superstars who have been doing Texas Couples Dancing all their life. Ditto for the Broken Spoke. You watch the old pros in action and your jaw drops at the smooth, stylish and massively creative moves. * * * If you want to see amazing dancing with the band not wearing cowboy hats, you have to go to a club like Barbarella. There all the dancers are nubile and aged 30 or younger. Watching the dancing is great because everybody is hot. But they also have legitimately excellent dancers as well. If an old guy dances, they are cool with it. But that old guy is a curiosity and a freak. * * * Where are the amazing older non-Cowboy dancers? They all hang out at C-Boys. As soon as the funk band started the first song of their set, THE DANCE FLOOR IMMEDIATELY FILLED. And these weren't just jigglers or telephone poles swinging their hips back and forth three inches. This was MAJOR MOVES CITY. People were throwing themselves into the music. Arms and legs were going off in every crazy direction. Bodies were contorting, turning with the beat. Samuel C is 67 years old, and is a dancer of the Major Moves City persuasion. My arms and legs were going off in every crazy direction. My body twisted and turned with the beat as well. For the first time since I came to Austin, I was in club full of people older than 30 who really get it. They know what you are supposed to do when a band starts to lay down some serious rhythm. * * * For what it is worth, C-Boys' is also one of the most atmospheric bars in Austin. It is styled as an 50's-early 60's lounge for serious heavy drinkers. The decor is for people who are drinking boilermakers at 2 in the afternoon. Wholesome people need not apply. The 50's style neon sign advertises "Cocktails". The bar is dark. The front windows are translucent glass blocks that keep outsiders from seeing the drinkers within. The windows are lined in red neon. In Sin City, the bars look like this. Sin City bars have the same lineup of bottles they have at C-Boy's. When I was a good little Jewish boy growing up in Boston, I was taught that productive people like us don't go to bars like this. I am happy to frequent such establishments today. * * * C-Boys has style, has class, has amazing bands and you can dance up a storm. What else do you want for a night on the town? read more

Service was outstanding- the waitress kept it moving - she was all over the place making sure everyone was taken care of. Drink prices were priced just right!! Wow I don't know where to begin. My husband and our friends went here and as soon as we got inside the guy at the door said $5 a person. My husband and his friend both gave $20 and he went crazy and said don't shove your money in my face. First of all no one was shoving any money in his face. We are normal classy citizens. We are not no disrespectful people. Anyways he took the money and our friend went to talk to him ti explain to him that no one was shoving their money and that what he did was rude and he said he didn't care and we felt very out of place. I think since we weren't white he treated us that way. If you're not white get ready to feel extremely out of place and looked down on. Will never be back or recommend to anyone. Bartender lady is super rude. Not sure why she is doing a customer service related job. I was trying to ask her when the band closes and she started yelling. We all knew she could hear but she kept on yelling "WHAT", "WHAT". And then yelled at us to move away from certain area of the bar. She is a white lady, around 40-45 years old. Stopped by for Chicken $hit Sunday. First impression C-Boys is a mini version of the Continental Club. It's dark and cool and a good venue to hear some good music and get your drank on! I was expecting it to be more crowded as compared to Ginny's for CS Bingo but it was a holiday weekend and the music was great and the beer was cold. As a bonus, I got to say Hi to Ginny who is still looking rather spry. I would love to come back when Dale Watson is playing (next Sunday) and I'm sure it will be more crowded.
