I can start out by saying my experience started out great...I called because I couldn't find their…read morelocation and the receptionist was very helpful. I went in and really felt that I was in good hands with Debra. She had started out by saying that I was under no obligation for them to actually file my taxes and that she would go through it with me and I could decide at the end. The reason I had gone was to see if I could get back more versus filing on my own through a competitor. When she was done, I initially thought my numbers were better than hers so I asked if she could save everything and give me a chance to look things over and I would call back if I was interested in moving forward. She said no problem and was very cordial, etc. Fast forward to a couple of weeks later...I check my numbers and realize that her numbers were about the same as mine. I decided to call back the location to see how much it would be to file so I didn't have to do it myself and also to double check the numbers that she had given me. When I called, Debra was not in unfortunately so the receptionist offered to help me. Once she located my file that had, since then, been deleted, she told me that it would cost approximately $400 to file my taxes. $400?!?! That was a bit more than I had anticipated, considering I did not have a complex tax return by all means so I ask her if she could verify if that included any amount owed to State or Federal taxes. She said that there was a refund on one and an amount owed on the other, but she wouldn't give me the amounts. I asked her why she couldn't give me the amounts, and she said, "Because you didn't pay!" (in a very rude tone). At that point, I told her that they had lost my business and I hung up. I would not refer ANYONE to this establishment, which is unfortunate, considering I had such a good experience initially. Just to clarify, I was not obligated to pay anything. In fact, when I left Debra's office, I gave her a $5 gift card to Starbucks as a small token of my appreciation! The thing that doesn't make sense to me about the lady not being able to verify the numbers over the phone is...#1) I sat there and went through all of the numbers with Debra so why all of a sudden is that information "classified"? #2) I can't really do anything with the numbers once she gives them to me over the phone other than decide if I want to make an appointment so what's the harm?! Thanks H&R Block for making this an easy decision for me! :)
