Thanks to Shawn Swenson, my husband and I locked in to the VA loan 30 year fixed rate at 2.25% interest rate. I don't know the FIRST thing about mortgage loans, but apparently (from our friends and family, some in finance, some realtors) this is an unbelievable rate. When we first started with Shawn, our rate was 2.75%. We were fine with that as at the time (in early July 2020), that was the most common APR for VA loan that we've seen not only from C2 Hawaii but other lenders. We ALMOST went with DR Horton as they were going to give us 2.75% with credits towards our closing. However, Shawn gave us a call and let us know he can do 2.25% with a few thousand dollars credit towards our closing. It didn't cover a lot of closing fees, but long-term 2.25% just made so much sense after we calculated the numbers. Even before Shawn let us know we can have 2.25% he gave us no pressure to go with him and even told us to take DR Horton's deal (because it covered all the closing fees for VA). Luckily though, we decided to wait a few days to see if the rates change and I'm so glad we did. Getting the call from Shawn with 2.25% interest rate was unheard of. We liked Shawn because he was honest, upfront about everything, and every time we called to follow up on our loan process he answered our calls and emails right away. We pretty much didn't have to do much when it came to closing our loan. Even though DR Horton's deal sounded nice, the 2.25% you just can't beat. Shawn also gave us no pressure to use him at all. If there's something I do like, it's when someone doesn't pressure me to do something. Taylor Bain also helped in processing our loan. Everything she asked for we gave right away and the both of them made it easy for us. We never really had to follow up for anything and when our lender (the one who our loan was actually going to be from) took a while to do closing documents, Shawn was quick and thorough to explain why. Our mortgage is lower than some of our neighbors who took their loans at 2.75% for houses a little cheaper than ours. We definitely referred a few of our neighbors to refinance through Shawn if they could. Even when it came down to closing, Shawn scheduled our signing on 09/28/2020 and we were able to record and get our keys on 09/30/2020. We needed to get our keys by 10/01/2020 because of some appointments we made (for shutters and garage floors) and Shawn made sure we got our keys before then. Great service! What a joke, go find a serious broker. These guys have dragged me for over four months after pulling my credit. Said they would get me approved despite the complications of my income and student loans. Instead they sent me a denial and said not to take that denial from their underwriter serious because the submission to that particular underwriter was just to feel out what they needed for documentation. When I called management about why their loan officer was not actually working on my loan but apparently giving me completely unnecessary lip service they said they would get back to me with a different person and never did. Never heard from them the first time except more bs and lip service from the same guy for another month. Called again and they said they would get back to me about a different loan officer, but never did. If theres no possibility of getting the loan I'm asking for just say so. Why all the run around and dragging me along. Frankly, I had a pre-approval for less than these guys said they were gonna get me approved for, but I walked on that because of the lies coming out of this crock of a broker's loan officers...I should go review all of their independently listed loan agents or brokers right here on yelp. I'll just leave this here and hope anyone else not wanting to waste their time looks elsewhere...thanks for nothing C2 read more

My husband and I had a very trying year in our search for a home. We probably put in no less than 8-10 offers, but this market is insane, as I'm sure you know. We had dreams of a single family home, but were only approved enough for a condo, so we were competing with a lot of cash offers and just couldn't win. We absolutely ADORE our first lender and would recommend her any day of the week, but as much as she tried, and she worked hard, she couldn't get our preapproval amount raised to cover what we really wanted to buy. Then we met Joe Schmitz. We thought we would take another shot with a different lender to see where we stand, not thinking we would do any better than where we started. Surprisingly, Joe was able to get us $200K over what we were originally approved for!! A single family home for us just went from "haha yeah right" to "holy crap, we might actually be able to pull this off!" We went over all the details with him and knew we could afford this. That wasn't the problem. The problem was we were barely qualified for the home we wanted. I mean barely. I won't lie. It was not easy jumping up $200K more than what you are originally approved for without a lot of bumps in the road. We were hanging on, but just by the hair of our chinny-chin-chin. But Joe knew how much we wanted the house and assured us he was going to make it happen. We were committed to it. We had to file endless amounts of paperwork, write all kinds of letters to the lender and had to file extensions on our closing date a few times (I'm sure the seller still hates us; ) On top of that it was during the holidays, so you can only imagine how busy everyone was, including Joe, trying to get year end deals closed. I'm sure he had a lot on his plate, but he fought for us like a champ and we ended up closing Jan 2015. Most people won't need to do as much as we did. Our story is a little crazy, but I wanted to share to show that with Joe, even in an extreme scenario such as ours, he fights for his clients all the way and delivers. He can definitely make something happen for you too. Was Joe done though? Uhhh no, he's GI freakin' JOE, remember?! He contacted us out of the blue a month ago about a refi. We've been working on the house and added a lot of improvements. We just completed the refi. Guess what? He saved us 2 months rent and our mortgage payment is even lower! That goes a long way towards our remodel budget. He is tirelessly working to build very solid relationships and he is just an all around nice, honest guy working really hard behind the scenes for his clients.
