On Sunday August 2nd 2026 myself, my two sons and grandson stopped in for dinner. The wife and I eat at Cabanas on the River in Cincinnati Ohio at least 5 or 6 times each summer so I wanted to take my boys there. On this occasion my youngest son ordered the Shrimp and Cheese Grits. About halfway through his meal he found a large piece of plastic wrap inside his cornbread/muffin. I politely brought this to the attention of our server and asked her to see what they could do over this. She came back and said that her manager stated they do not bake the cornbread so it's not their fault or responsibility that plastic was in his food, but they would take half off his meal. Sorry, it is any restaurants responsibility for whatever they serve whether it's sourced in or made from scratch. If they would have taken care of my sons meal and not insulted us with its not our fault line I would have been fine. This type of management and response is a perfect reason for you to AVOID the restaurant at all cost. We will never be back. read more

My experience last night was horrible. The one overarching theme of the entire meal experience was cigarette smoke. The stench blocked out smells of the food and made the entire experience miserable. I had gotten a drink at the bar which was a proper pour. But when I was at the table and my server brought my same drink it was about 3/4 the size of what I had previously gotten just a few minutes before. When I told the waitress the drink was much less. She said well. I guess that's just an outside bar thing. Meaning that she didn't care. She didn't go look into it. She blew it off. She made no attempt to rectify it or justify it. A waitress who doesn't care is not a waitress and needs to be doing something else in addition to that when my meal was brought to the table, The tortillas wrapped, of course in foil to keep them warm were stone cold when they got there. I asked the waitress if they're supposed to be warm and her answer was," I don't know". What good does it do to have a server who comes to check on you and make sure everything's okay and then she doesn't like anything okay. If one cannot enjoy their meal because the overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke, ruins everything and your server has a name, Alexis. If you have never been to cabana on the river. This place is a must . The view is beautiful and to site outside with nice weather and great view. The food is so good . Food is mediocre. View was nice. Service was ok. Next time I know to just get the pretzel sticks and beer.

I will start by saying I'm not an eat outdoors kind of person. I don't like to be hot . The first table offered was for 6 at a table for 4 in the sun while there were at least 10 larger tables open under the covering. When I objected, I was met with a little eye rolling and being passed off to someone else . After we got the seating straightened out, things went much smoother. Our server was excellent and made sure drinks were full. The food was typical bar food and the burgers were hot off the grill. Terrible service: -We had to ask for everything; drink refills, silverware, napkins. -Bland food and premium price, they don't know what salt or pepper is. Less seasoned than Long John Silvers -Had what I was corrected to be the fish dinner, even thought its listed as a haddock sandwich. Came open faced with one large piece of fish with one lettuce leaf. Soggy yet rubbery bread, no sauce, fries are extra and all you get is a 50c bag of chips from the dollar tree. read more

You don't really come here for the food, it's all about the atmosphere. The food truly is pretty good, but it's beach food for sure. Lots of fried options. I had a black and blue steak salad that was really good. There was also a buffalo chicken sandwich and fish and chips at the table and everyone was happy with their food. As many reviewers comment, this isn't the place to go for fantastic food but this is the best gathering place on the west side on a warm summer evening for a cocktail, an appetizer and a river view. Take advantage of the waitlist because evenings are always busy. The servers work hard and do their best to keep everyone happy. I was trying to watch my son's volleyball championship and get some food. I ordered an overpriced sandwich and after buying it was told I couldn't take MY FOOD over to the volleyball court to eat. I still don't know exactly why. Both areas are owned by the same company. I was told to leave the area with the food. So have a few words of disgust, I left and ate my food in the parking lot and then returned to the volleyball court to watch the game. No one needs this kind of harassment when going out to have a bite watch a volleyball game. None of it makes sense to me. I won't be returning anytime soon. It was terrible customer service. This was a complete surprise to me and my family. We had a list of things we wanted to do this summer, and a waterfront meal was one of them. My mom found the place, so we made our way over there. I say this with all the love in my heart, I was expecting it to be worse. I've had meals that are more focused on the views than the food. This was not one of those places. We got seated right next to the dock, and were taken care of very quickly. We got our drinks, and ordered. Me and my father got the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, which, for the price, we expected a sad attempt at it. Oh, how wrong we were. We got two huge patties of the spicy chicken, which was flavorfully spicy. I had to eat one of the patties with a knife and fork before eating the sandwich. Needless to say, I was rolling out of there by the end of it. My mother got the fish and chips, which she said were pretty good for the price of it, and she also got a good portion of it. Waitstaff were amazing, and we were able to chit chat with her, which you don't get too often when it comes to restaurants these days.
