Coming from a country of freedom and overly sized portions, I had no idea what some of these foods were, but they were really good. The tea they served us was amazing and went with maple syrup, the soup went well with the pork skins, and the classic pancakes, sausage, eggs, and ham breakfast was just amazing. The circular fries were amazing and I love radishes so I was snacking on that during my time there. I loved how they always checked up on us and asked if we needed any more food. We came here for a tour of the Sugar Shack, and it was an experience. They have a huge dining room accommodating multiple tour groups. The servers bring the food out on carts, and lunch is served family style. There's a container of maple syrup on every table, and they put syrup on everything. The lunch consists of pea soup with pork rinds, ham & baked beans, country fried potatoes, and meat pie. Dessert is pancakes with maple syrup (surprise!) The food is decent (3/5), but you really come here for the experience. Throughout the meal there is an accordion player, and diners are encouraged to go up and play along with clapping wooden spoons. It can get quite boisterous. After the meal, we go outside and see how they make maple taffy and hear about their maple syrup manufacturing process. Overall, it was a fun experience. read more

Our tour group stopped here for lunch last week. The whole restaurant is geared towards groups, so it's loud, noisy and boisterous. There was entertainment playing, including the spoons! Our servers were friendly and trying to keep their cool with the crowds. Food was OK, but nothing tasted overly special. The pea soup, ham, potatoes, beets, egg omelet, meat pie, dessert pancake etc were all just fair in my opinion. After lunch we were given a presentation on maple syrup, and a frozen maple syrup popsicle. It was an interesting experience all in all, and a one and done. read more

We went as a tour group to this Sugar Shack and they were able to handle big crowds. The meat pie was a bit dry to my taste but over all it was a great country experience. You come here not just for the food but for the whole experience. There was live music, hot maple tea, maple candy tasting. This place is full on pork stuff but you can ask for chicken alternatives and they were able to accommodate. Also food wasn't expensive. read more

I went here with a tour group. The foods are ok. The meat pie is a little dry, but the bean soup is good. The ham they served was not dry, and the bread on the table was not set at all. The maple tea is the bright spot of the meal. read more

Don't be a sap, unless you are a maple tree if course! Then I say, let's produce! If you ever want to know why maple syrup is expensive (the real stuff), it takes a lot to get just a little in the process. On our visit to Quebec, Canada and the countryside we visited the production site of a maple syrup farm, what a treat. Although, I'm more of lover of savory things, I enjoy something sweet too. We had coffee and tea and apple pie with fresh syrup to try. We learned about the production process thru the years, visited a museum of local nature and culture, and the highlight was maple syrup on snow which makes a taffy texture! Oh, how I would have gone for a maple glazed donut! After the tour, it was time to grab the goodies! Glass or cans are popular. My husband chose the larger can for us, I purchased s smaller bottle for gifting a family member...just know that if you are taking this fine liquid through any security...I recommend the glass! My husband got stopped because the canister was shaped like kerosene fluid! They were a bit suspicious. FYI...we enjoyed getting sappy here! The one star is for their customer service. We were tourists and we have dietary restrictions. We wanted to order a la carte but they said no, we have to take the set meal, not pick and choose. They were not helpful and considerate and don't seem to have regard of people's food choices and dietary needs. Won't come back again. read more

Didn't expect to be blown away by some energetic folksy hospitality but I was. This was the best part of my trip to Quebec. I got to try maple candy for the second time (the first time was when it snowed 3 ft in the US and I poured maple syrup all over the snow and ate the snow like a hillbilly shaved ice bingsoo) and had some good country cooking. Turns out maple syrup can taste great in tea and on ham- I'm definitely converted! Not sure what those clapper wooden instruments are called, but the hands on attempt to play along to the music entertained me (and the 7 year old next to me). read more

They found us a spot on a Monday at lunch in October because sure enough 2 buses came in. Call before if you can. Good food served family style at your table. More than enough. Good value. Good music. Bought some wooden clappers for my son. Broke in less than 5 minutes so would not buy those again. Service was excellent. Fun spot. read more

This place was a blast! It is a little off the beaten track between Montreal and Quebec City using Highway 40, but it is well worth the detour! The interior is very spacious and rustic, with long tables set up for communal eating. They had a live fiddler playing while we were there...how cool is that! The food is honest, hearty, tasty, and all you can eat, so come hungry! They do a very good job of letting you taste most of the regional fare of rural Quebec - everything from pickled beets to baked beans, maple glazed ham, meat pies, and Maple sugar pancakes! The spread is immense. They include in the price a hot beverage and tour of the syrup shack and maple grove as well. Behind the restaurant and gift shop is the actual syrup shack (which was smaller than I was expecting). Inside they had a lot of interesting visual displays explaining the maple syrup production process from tapping the trees through to cooking down the sap to create syrup. Everything was in French, but the staff was nice enough to take me and my new wife on a tour, so she explained what the different placards was saying. Very nice! Behind the sugar shack is a lovely, short walking trail which winds back through the maple grove. We were there in the fall, and it was beautiful (also was nice to walk off some of what you just ate). If you are driving past this place, I highly suggest detouring in Trois-Rivieres to check it out. For the cost it is well-worth it! read more
