One of the best restaurants I have ever been to in my life, the photos I posted speak for themselves. This is a price fix restaurant in which you do not know what they will be serving before you come. I am happy I didn't, all the food options were a present surprise. You get served and extraordinary amount of delicious and high quality food from the fresh duck to the various cheeses this restaurant serves. This place should be considered a museum with the food being the art pieces!

Highly recommend couples/family/group to try this restaurant! It's about 30min drive from Montreal. The food is a perfect combination of hearty, tasty and fancy. It's a 5-course meal but felt like 10-course meal, in a good way! Everything from beginning to the end was exciting, you don't know what to expect to come in front of you. The vibe was also great: cozy and wild (we literally sit with a group of people in the middle of nowhere, eating fantastic food and looking at the snow through the glass windows). We enjoyed it sooo much! We would come back here if we have a chance to come to Montreal!!

From the chef owner of Pied de Cochon, Martin Picard and his team, have opened a new sugar shack next door to their now infamous Cabane à Sucre Au Pied de Cochon. This shack is fairly small, holding only 38 seats total, but the cozy space offers a great venue, outstanding food, amazing service, a casual vibe and more intimate atmosphere than their neighbour. Upon entering this wooden shack, you are greeted at the door where you offered a drink platter to enjoy before asking to be seated. We chose the "gin sapin" platter; the waitress brings you the components and shows you how to assemble your drinks. The drink was amazing! Each platter can easily make 6 drinks so it's wise to buy yourself a platter to share than an individual drink if you're in a group or a heavy drinker Once seated, you will notice the beautiful resin tables and the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the woods; the benches add to the sugar shack feel and there's enough room to seat comfortably 8 per table. The 80's music will have you reminiscing as you feast on the best quebecois dishes offered at any sugar shack ever! The menu included 18 separate dishes, yes, 18 generous and delicious portions of entrees, mains, and desserts. There was not a single dish we did it enjoy. We started with cretons, liver mousse, pickles, homemade bread, and butter. We moved on to split pea soup, beans, eggs, buckwheat pancakes and of course maple syrup. The mains included a decadent tourtière, mash potatoes, ham, and root veggies. We finished off with "tire" served on your table, sugar pie, and a blueberry cake. I'm sure my food coma is leaving some items out but I do know that everything was delicious, well executed, and served by the friendliest staff with a smile. This was the ultimate Cabane experience, and if you've been to the Cabane PDC, you know you can expect the same generous portions but I loved this space for its cozier, quieter, and more intimate atmosphere. Can't wait to go back next season!!

It only opened 6 weeks ago and being a faithful fan of the PDC restaurants this of course is a must stop when we come up from from Brooklyn making our bi-annual food pilgrimage. We had a 12 noon reservation, we didn't know if we could eat anymore after one night at the PDC then the next day at the Sugar Shack and now the last day on their new restaurant. Of course we didn't know what to expect since it is so new and there were only a few reviews of this place. We knew we wouldn't be disappointed since it is PDC. First the arrival was a bit confusing because the entrance from the GPS and the actual shack is about 1000 ft away. There were not a large area for parking and when we were there the ground was still wet from the snow so it was muddy. We managed no big deal but just writing this so people are aware. The setting is a small house like and it seats only 38 people and we had a party of 6 and lucky to be seated at the chef's table right inside the kitchen. Upon arrival inside it was very quaint, the set up, decor was very "Canadian", speaking from an American point of view lol. While we were waiting we had a maple syrup champagne and my kid had a maple syrup soda. Yum. As we waited in the "mud room" inside we saw the owner/chef Martin Picard checking on the staff and tasting the food. We were like teenagers and wanted to take photo with him. Well we basically drive up from Brooklyn twice a year just to go to his restaurants so I think it is only fair to do so. Now the food, it is not like the Sugar Shack, it is more of the comfort food style but the pace is slower and not as crazy portion like the Sugar Shack but it was good enough for us. We enjoyed the freshly baked bread, the pate, the soup, the meat pie and the maple syrup on a stick desert. It is very traditional Canadian which is nice, Sugar Shack has a theme every year that's very international but this is not and I like it. What I also like is that the playlist for the restaurant is so awesome we were able to enjoy the meal and relax and not feel rushed. Not that they rush us at the Sugar Shack but they give you 2.5 hours to finish 12 courses. We were able to go out for some fresh air while waited for the next course. Overall I like it a lot and it is different from the flagship restaurant and the Sugar Shack but it stands on its own. Can't wait to see what every year brings.

My friend made the reservation four months ago. This Friday we drove 1.5 hour to come here. They offer a set menu with 5 sessions, 13 courses. Pro: seasonal ingredients and fantastic combinations. Fresh ingredients from their garden. The large variety of the ingredients. Good timing of each serving. Cons: flies flying around. Veal tasting weird. Some strange combination. Sharing table with others. Seating can be uncomfortable.

I came here on the recommendation of a friend who worked with Vincent at the Pied de Cochon sugar shack. If you're looking for extravagant " let's eat squid at the sugar shack " experience, that's not what you'll get here. What you will get is the BEST-OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD revisited classics. The best foie gras. The best beans. The BEST pea soup. Omelette. Pancakes. Pork filet. Name it, they do it best. The staff is incredible and you can tell their love of food. Don't be surprised to see the owner come to your table and explain you each course. (All 18 of them... pace yourself.) His descriptions are most definitely part of the entire experience. Do go for the spiked coffee. It's unlikely that you'll want to go back to a " traditional " cabane à sucre. This is la crème de la crème.

This was my first experience with the seasonal harvest menu at Cabane à Sucre Au Pied de Cochon,…read moreand it was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and felt true to the season. We started with the artichoke salad with coppa and stracciatella fresh, creamy, and well balanced. The mi-cooked trout with beurre blanc and chanterelles was rich yet delicate, while the ratatouille tart added a rustic, comforting touch. The gnocchi with foie gras was indulgent in the best way, and the turkey and sausage dish was hearty and satisfying. Dessert was a highlight: the raspberry tart was light, beautifully crafted, and the perfect way to end the meal. The overall experience felt special generous portions, incredible seasonal flavours, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. It's clear how much thought goes into this menu, and it really shines through in every bite. Highly recommend experiencing this before you die.

One must simply be ready the moment online reservations open in early December. I treated myself and my husband in early April in the thick of maple sugaring season. The drive from Montreal is a good hour, so we opted to stay in Laval. Much better might have been to rent an Airbnb in Mirabel. Next time. Because there simply must be a next time. For one fixed price (about $95 CAN), you are treated to course after course after course of the most delicious food crafted in the Québécois countryside. Everything has maple. Everything is the best thing you've ever tasted. I just wanted to slow down time and make this night last forever. Because it was just two of us, we lucked out and got seats at the bar instead of sharing a big communal table. Our two barkeeps were excellent- so friendly, plus knowledgeable and enthusiastic about every dish they served us. I had read that seasoned diners know to bring their own plastic containers for leftovers, so I too tucked a few into my bag. Do the same. Especially by the time you reach the flight of desserts at the meals end, one simply cannot consume that much food in one sitting. I will be dreaming of this epic meal for years to come. Or maybe just a year. Living only a three hour drive away, how can I not return next spring? Apparently, the menu changes every year. This place could shutter its doors someday and then it truly will exist only in my dreams. Until then, I simply must return. It exceeded my expectations, and then some. Divine. Rustic. Elevated. Joyful. Boisterous. Refined. Exquisite. Extraordinary.

They welcome anywhere between 12,000 to 15,000 students to their workshops every year. We participated in the the guided bee keeping tour. They run 3 per day and attendance is limited to a first come first served basis. They recommend for you to show up 30 minutes before the tour starts. Due to physical distancing measures, each household is kept in their own "bubble" where there's designated seating in each area for each household. Also note to go to the bathroom before you get there because they only have a porta-potty outside. The tour starts with an intro by the owner, Mme Macle. Then a short video and then the beekeeper who guides the tour gives an overview of the tour. You'll visit the first room with a hanging glass observation hive where busy little bees are doing their thing. See them buzzing at work while learning the bee basics. Then the beekeeper will take you to the patio surrounding the garden area to see her smoke and open a beehive. You'll get to see a live hive up close behind the safety of the screen surrounding the patio. You'll head over to see how honey is extracted using a centrifuge, have a honey taste test and learn about the different bee products. Want more taste testing? Well the next place is the distillery and you'll be served up samples of each of the product lines. Taste the different meads, maple liquor, and a unique honey gin. The tour ends in the shop where you can test (again) each of the products and find pretty gift ideas. Here's a tip, honey that's slightly crystalized (which is perfectly natural) is sold at a discounted price $5 per 500ml and $9 per 1L on the shelf near the cash. There's everything from soaps, alcohols, honeycomb, honey jars, honey accessories. Perfect place to hunt for unique gift items from Quebec. You can also picnic on the lawn. Overall, a lovely little family and friends outing just a short drive from Montreal.

For kids: There is free honey and maple tasting, a playground (to get those extra energies out), a cool pony farm and nice small petting/animal stables (goats, rabbits, sheep, cows, donkey) and of course a tour to see how honey is made( free for kids 10$ per adult) For adults: and here the fun starts, they make lots of different honey liquor and mead (prices range from 10-30$ per bottle) and you can taste them all for free. Be careful be the time you finish the tasting you may want to rest and eat something. They also make ciders and other liquor that you can taste. I am not sure I will drive here just for this place, but combined with apple picking (plenty in the area) or before your weekly shopping (10 min from Walmart and other locations ) it is a great option for kids-adults-out of town visitors activity

If you go during peak apple picking season in September, expect to find large crowds everywhere! If you go in the beginning of October, it is much less crowded and you may even be able to find an available ladder in the orchard. I personally prefer visiting in the first two weeks of October since you can pick Cortland apples as they're the last type of apple to ripen and they keep really well. In September, it's too early for them and they're usually very small and unripe. What to know about visiting during covid is that you're not allowed to eat the apples in the orchard but then again, there's no enforcement of it so people do so anyway. There are lines to go into the boutique and bistro but you have the music of the live band to keep you entertained while you wait. They make some sought after apple donuts and the best place to pick up the donuts are at the Bistro. You can get them fresh out of the fryer and it's 6 for $13.75. They're not as appley as I had hoped, rather they're very doughy and cinnamony. They're best eaten fresh. We warmed them up in the oven the next day but not as good. So my advice is to get what you can eat immediately. If you want honeycrisp apples, those are available outside the boutique already picked, available in 3 sizes: 3lb, 5lb and 10lb. You can also buy other pre-picked apples and mini sour apples. There's a very tall sour mini apple tree located at one of the intersections in the orchard and the kiddies love eating them. If you're going during peak season, go early because the crowds swell as the day progresses. There's tons of parking around so that part isn't a problem. Since they're open year round, you could save the visits to the boutique for another time and avoid the crowds.
