Le Central was one of my favorite food halls in Montreal. It's very similar to the Time Out Market concept, but honestly, I enjoyed this one much more. The atmosphere felt more welcoming, the crowd was more lively, and there seemed to be a better variety of food options to choose from. I started my visit at Norte and had not one, but two of their Special Passion Fruit Coconut Tequila Margaritas. Absolutely amazing. They were refreshing, flavorful, and dangerously easy to drink. I wish I had gotten the bartender's name because he was incredibly sociable, friendly, and made the experience even better. Next up was a pepperoni pizza from Heirloom, and wow... that pizza was fire. It was loaded with cheese, which is exactly how I like it. Most pepperoni pizzas tend to sacrifice some of that cheesy goodness, but this one delivered. The crust was great, the pepperoni had a nice crisp, and every bite hit the spot. Next time, I think I'll add some prosciutto and take it to the next level. After hanging out for a bit, I stopped by Masubi! and grabbed a sashimi rice ball, dumplings, and a salmon tartare. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and a perfect way to finish off the meal. The salmon tartare was especially delicious!! Overall, Le Central exceeded my expectations. Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere, and plenty of variety under one roof. I would absolutely recommend checking it out if you're visiting Montreal, and it's definitely on my list for my next trip back to the city. read more

Honestly, with so many cuisines and such a clean, well-lit establishment, what's not to like? I fit a chicken bowl from Chom Chom and it was delicious. Dining companion got a tofu bowl and claimed it was "fine." Great place for kids and families... stop by the strip club next door! read more

My friends and I were sightseeing and came to this spot to check it out. I'm still full my breakfast so I didn't eat much. But this place has over 20+ places to choose from. My friends decide to order a few items from Le Super Qualite, an Indian crusine place. My friends said the food was really good so I ended up ordering the wada pav myself. I agree, it was B-O-M-B! So many food stalls to choose from inside Le Central. I saw Asian fusion, Mediterranean, Italian, Hawaiian and Vietnamese just to name a few. I especially liked the made to order churro stall with chocolate dip and nougat, yum! I'm pretty sure there are over 20 food stalls in total so definitely something for everyone. The vibe inside is minimalistic, clean and trendy with lots of good seating. A perfect spot for a bite if you are indecisive. Something will definitely catch your eye as you walk around. It was a tough decision, but Kame caught my eye for a late afternoon lunch. I ordered two small poke bowls which were quite substantial in size. Also a shrimp tempura snack which was very decent in size as well. The bowls had a good variety of shredded pickled carrot and mixed greens with seaweed salad and rice and poke salmon tossed in a vinaigrette and siracha mayo wow! The wait time was rather quick after placing my order. The only downside is that you have to order menu items as they are as they do not allow for customization. Reminds me a bit of Time out market but without being attached to a mall. I like the area and a food court makes a lot of sense since there is always something to do around Place des arts and it adds a lot more options than just the complexe desjardins mall food court. They have a nice mix of options and price ranges are $15-$30 depending on what you order and from where. It can get very packed here on nights with shows or other events so it will become hard to navigate around and finding a seat for a big group will be a hassle. I find the layout of the merchants a bit strange because there are some that are hidden in the far back and there's no one way to do a tour of all the options properly because there can be a lot of people and there are many entrances which just means more people and lots of noise. They don't have a buzzer system either so you kinda have to wait for your food at the counter or sit and walk back to the place you ordered with your receipt within the time frame they told you. I've tried a handful of the stalls here and nothing has really wowed me so far except Le petit vibe (but they are sadly closed now) and trou de beigne (excellent doughnuts!!). I've also tried Ramen Misoya (a bit too salty and uninteresting broth in my opinion), the mac and cheese bacon poutine from Le gras dur (good but small portion for the price and the mac and cheese nuggets were just frozen ones). I will say despite how this review might seem, I do enjoy coming here. When it's quiet, it's a nice place to sit with a friend and catch up! There's something guaranteed for every craving and the space itself is nice and inviting. Plus you can walk around Place des arts after and check out the light installations in the winter and the street decorations in the summer (or a festival!) read more

We really weren't looking for a meal or even a snack, we were there just to take a look at one of the three food halls in downtown Montreal, Le Centrale. Le Cathcart and Timeout Market are the other ones. We had just spent some time enjoying the warm weather and sights within the Quartier des Spectacles and this place beckoned. Churros offers fresh-from-the-fryer churros. The long treats with serrated ridges, a bit denser than a cruller, are coated in sugar and had a nice crunch. They were served with a choice of dipping sauces. I had one of each: dark chocolate, salted caramel, dulce de lèche, and Nutella. The dark chocolate was intense and flavorful and the salted caramel highlighted the contrasting sweet and salty flavors; they were my favorites. Service was kind and professional. read more

Something for everyone because it is an upscale food court with many cultural cuisines available, plus bars too. The communal tables are great for meeting friends, and the variety makes for good people watching too. When using maps to find a restaurant by name, it is super hard to find because they are not listed outside. If you are looking for local (French) food, there are crepes and poutine. I went for crepes, and unfortunately Milo was out of savory batter. So thus the deduction in a star. read more

This is a cool spot in Montreal! A market style eatery where you can order many dishes from different vendors and sit down in a central area. Perfect if you have a group of friends with different preferences for food. I tried the poke bowl from Kame, churros, and also a coffee. I would have also liked to try a pasta dish (there were a few vendors), but you can only eat so much. Good prices and friendly service. I get that you're paying for the market-like vibe but the quantity of food is unreasonable for the price at Kamé. For the same price in a good quality sushi restaurant I got a bowl with twice the amount of food. To top it off, it turns out that 3 slivers of mango costs an extra $0.50 *raging inside*. The Centrale menu prices don't match the website menu prices--it's between $2-$4 more. Taste and quality were reasonable although my small HANAUMA BAY had at the bottom of the bowl a pool of oil. Possibly from the salad base. I also took the small Waikiki, which is snack sized bowl and the total with taxes came out to $32.19 for 2. I find this overhyped. read more

Now THIS is a food hall! I stumbled upon Le Central when looking for another restaurant, and I'm so glad I stopped by! The food stalls were top notch, and there was an incredible amount of variety. I ate a crazy mix of food and beer from multiple vendors. The masala dosa from the Indian street food stall was excellent but very spicy, and I loved the look of the stall itself. So Le Central is one of those Food Halls that are becoming oh so popular. This place does it right though and is so much better than the Time Out Market in the (Montreal) Eaton Centre, IMO. The space is big and all storefronts of the independent vendors have their own unique style, so it looks very eclectic. It reminds me a lot of Assembly Chef's Hall in Toronto. Meanwhile, Time Out Market looks very corporate, since all the storefronts look the same with the name written in the same font. Oh and I find the prices at Le Central much more reasonable than Time Out. Also at Le Central you can buy drinks from any vendor and many vendors even have a water dispenser with free water. At Time Out you can only buy drinks from the Soda Bar and I don't believe there is any free water. My husband and I had lunch at Le Central. He got the "Guédille de homard" (Lobster Roll) at Gaspesie Bistro Gourmand ($16). It came with fries. I got the 4 pieces fried chicken at Ho Lee Chix ($7) and a slice of Margherita pizza at Morso ($3). I had a bite of my husband's lobster roll and a few fries and they were quite tasty. It is something that I would consider ordering for myself. The fried chicken was absolutely delicious and I actually received 5 pieces instead of 4, whoo hoo! I love bonus chicken, lol. They were piping hot, so crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The meat was boneless and lean with no gristlely bits. Thumbs up! I got to chose 2 dipping sauces and I went with General Tao and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Both were good, but the PB&J was certainly unique. It was like a peanut sauce with a fruity and sweet element to it. I liked the creativity. Staff were very friendly. The Margherita pizza at Morso was also great. I usually like thin crust, but the crust here is thicker, as it's Sicilian style pizza, but I still enjoyed it. It was basic tomato sauce with fresh cheese but very tasty. This vendor only takes cards and no cash. Most of the seating at Le Central is communal, but they have some smaller tables as well. I am looking forward to going back and trying out some other vendors. I love the mix of cuisines. They had Mexican, Italian, Indian, Portuguese, Thai, French-Canadian, Japanese, American, Fusion, and so many others. They had desserts like gelato, Churros and donuts too. Ok this is an amazing food hall! What a great set of choices. I loved the tapas place. The donuts are to die for. And the poke bowl was divine. The little slices of pizza are heavenly, Only negative was the bahn mi Sammie at the Vietnamese place. I was here on a business trip and this place was convenient to my hotel but I recommend even to those who may be staying farther away. So much choice, and such good quality. Each food stall is its own restaurant and if you are with a group, everyone can get their own thing and you can meet up at the big community tables. I really like the urban decor with the bright posters on the walls. The ambiance is casual with music playing in the background. The food stands are randomly dispersed through the space, which makes it fun to walk through. Since the dessert stands are near the entrance, perhaps grab them first, then go get a seat or order a meal next. And there's a bar downstairs. After ordering the meal, they will call the number on the receipt. I made the mistake to sit at the table and not hearing their call. Next time, I'll probably wait next to the food stand. This food hall is a great way for customers to discover new eateries. After having a delicious meal at Kamé, I would love to visit their other location in the future. Some of the things I am grateful for: There are hangers for coats. There are staff helping with the dishes and trays after the meal. The toilets have the Dyson Airblade tap with build-in hand dryer! What a fun vibe! We were going to a show at Club Soda, so we picked this for a meal beforehand since it's across the street. There were four of us, and we decided to get stuff from Emilia and Heirloom. Both places had fantastic food! We got some drinks at the bar at the end of the building, after walking around and getting a feel for everything that was there. I love that Montreal went from 0 of these food hall concepts to 3 within a year (Time Out Market, Le Central, and the one that will be opening in PVM next month). Le Central got less hype than Time Out, so I was pleasantly surprised when I went to check it out on a Saturday evening. It is located near Place des Arts and M Telus so a key area that has been ignored in the past. The first time I went, I tried BabKesh, a Moroccan restaurant with a cute stall concept. Sharing is caring so I also tried Misoya for ramen (amazing) and Mignon for churros (drool). Bab Kesh was unique - I had never tried a Moroccan sandwich before, made with homemade bread (kind of between a bao bun and a pita bread) and braised beef. The harissa spicy sauce made it for me and I wish I had asked for extra of that sauce. The garnish salad was very bland in flavour so a stronger dressing or a garlic yoghurt-style sauce would've really made it more delicious for me. The owner was very nice, great service. Misoya blew my mind with their vegetarian ramen. They use shiitake mushrooms and miso to make an unbelievably tasty broth. Definitely worth a try. Mignon killed it with their churros. So fresh, smelled like heaven and the dulce de leche dipping sauce was excellent. During my second visit, I tried Ho Lee Chix and Bogado for unique flavoured ice cream. Ho Lee Chix has some tasty sauces and good chicken, but the miss for me is that they don't allow you to choose between white and dark meat... it's all dark meat. They also say it's boneless chicken but for me if there's remaining cartilage, it's not a pleasant eating experience. So for the fussy chicken eater, nay. Otherwise, you're going to love it. Got the vegetarian ramen from Misoya again... it's just that good. and finished my experience with a small ice cream from Bogado after sampling like 5-10 ice cream flavours! The raspberry red pepper and mango sorbets are delicious. I like the vibe at this food court, more laid back than Time Out. After I think it's 5pm, they darken the lights and pretty much every restaurant has a small line up. There are large communal tables in the main area or smaller tables out of the way in the back near the windows. Love the concept and will be back! read more

Very well known Montreal restaurants are under the safe roof at Le Central. So far, I enjoyed my favorite Le Super Qualité kiosk, also I tried Bonita's Taco and Deli, Trou de Beigne and West Sheffield. Beside Trou de Beigne; I loved the food and drinks from each of the food kiosk. I cannot wait to try others. The place itself is beautiful and fun. The services at each kiosk is excellent. There are some days, you get witness live music. Last time, I was having a lot of joy to be the audience to a jazz group who were amazingly talented. Definitely, a great food court if you compare to Time Out Market or Le Cathcart. Can't wait for the next visit. read more

Had to try it because similar concept places are popping up everywhere! If you're not familiar, it's basically an upscale food court with bar, and you can order dishes from many gourmet restaurants at once. We shared (and forgive me for not remembering the names of the places... but you will find them there is one of each style of food pretty much) : Salmon pizza -crisp crust, fresh smoked salmon and a creamy sauce. Reminded me of the salmon blinis brunch at Lemeac... 5/5 Marguerite pizza - crisp crust, generous toppings with different types of cheese. You can tell this is gourmet 5/5 Fish taco of the day was cod - carefully balanced with avocado and pickled onions. 5/5 it was INSANE ! Pollo pibil taco- again I was so impressed 5/5 Deep fried chicken and curry noodles From holy chix (or something like that )- so good. We had the peanut sauce and the spicy mayo sauce. Chicken was crunchy yet juicy. Noodles were nice complement. 5/5 Now you're probably thinking I'm one of those 5-star raters all the time.
