Guys at the gun counter don't follow their number system - just grab a guys attention and your good to go. Don't waste your time waiting with a number. I waited an hour to ask a simple question about a gun barrel that I was interested in after many people were just walking up and were attended to (throwing their number 15 higher than mine on the floor). I brought a gun and had it checked in because I wanted to show him the gun and get information about what I wanted to do with it. The guy helping me wasn't interested in looking at my gun and pointed me at bunch of barrels - He couldn't even answer the questions regarding the grip options and tactical accessories. I felt like I was bothering him after my hour long wait as he would barely make eye contact looking all over the store while I was talking to him. Told the manager in the front of the store while checking out about what happened and she really didn't seem concerned about the poor service. Unfortunately, this is probably par for the course here. I will go to BASS Pro or save a few bucks and gas money and buy online rather than waste my time here. The whole reason to go to the store is for support and these guys just don't care attitude about service. I hope somebody in management takes notice of these issues and corrects a real problem in the gun area. The store is very good otherwise and never leave empty handed when we go. read more

If you are an outdoors men, you can find what you want here. Everything from boats to portable bathrooms. Not the best place if you are a PETA supporter, a taxidermist made millions with the decorations in this store. I find it amazing, all the American animals, even African, standing around watching you while you shop. There is an enormous Great Lakes aquarium with giant catfish, walleye, longnose gars, bluegills, crappies, red-ear sliders and so much more. There is a stream that runs through the store that has trout and salmon. If you want a bite to eat, go to the second level and your craw will be pleasantly satisfied. When you are done, go to the laser hunting range, its an arcade game made for the outdoor enthusiast. read more

I agree this place is the Disney World of camping and hunting gear. The long lines and crying babies at every corner truly reflect my last trip to Disney. My lunch hour mission was to grab a sandwich in the 'restaurant' and pick up a black shirt for work. The 'restaurant' is a poorly run cafeteria. Chef Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible needs to stop in ASAP. I waited 20 minutes (behind a crying baby) to order my 'honey glazed' BLT. The scene behind the counter was complete chaos. My BLT was made well (sandwich guy with glasses was rockin' it), but the bacon was dripping pools of grease onto my plate. My side of coleslaw was frozen. Since the food took so long to order, the bored, super friendly cashier hung out with everyone in line chatting it up. Now, 35 minutes into my visit, I had to find a black shirt. I wandered through the women's department looking for a size small that was less than $100. No sales person in sight. Time was running out, so I opted for a medium and headed to the cashier. The line at the cash registers was long and the wait was even longer (especially next to misbehaving children). Joan was a nice, friendly cashier, but the friendly chatter made every transaction lengthy. If time is not an issue, spend the day at Cabelas. They have great gear. Eat elsewhere. read more

Used to love family owned Cabelas. If you were not satisfied they did their best to make you happy. Now no frikin way. Broke my binoculars on opening day and I have box and recept and they say nope. Deal with Nikon. Problem is by time I get them back season will be over. I will not be buying from Cabelas again. No customer service at all anymore. They want you to buy on line. Do not bother them. Best place around for outdoor winter gear. I buy all of my boots and jackets through here, and am happy with the selection. I know that this place seems everything under the sun for hunting, fishing, and the like, but that is not really my area of review. I will say that just coming to the store is a treat because of the lay out. In the middle of the store there is a three story mountain, with running streams, mounted animals, displays of different Eco systems, and live fish, trout I think. The big plus to this place is the large selection of columbia gear that they sell. I am a loyal fan after many times finding their gear to be exceptional. But even if you are not such a fan, you will find store brand to most of the name brands. Go here to just look around and enjoy the mountain even if you are not in the market for anything. Cabela's passes anyone's test of "All Under One Roof" store. It sure is A-OK but then you begin to wander the many departments and there are some head scratchers. Maybe, just maybe, that home goods and furniture area is good for a few but it had me wondering a lot about taste. Of course, I don't own a cabin in Mio, Michigan and even if I did I'd need a wad of cash to outfit the place in FULL CABELA'S regalia. The boots department is excellent; not sure about competitive pricing but the selection is wide ranging and appealing. So is the fishing department - Holy Cow! Rods, reels, reels, reels, rods, rods, .... again and again. I also spent time in the fire arms department which appeared to have a lot of product available. I'm not an gun buyer so I can't go beyond saying the counter seemed about 30+ yards in length. There is a BARGAIN CAVE on the 2nd Floor past Camping and that was interesting. A lot of very funking outdoor clothing, cages, odds and ends.... nothing of interest. CARTHART clothing section is very nice. I had to put one coat back as I didn't need it but really wanted it (reg. $159; on sale $119). I'm not in the market for a boat but I'll bet Cabela's is very cool to browse in non-Winter conditions. I like to view boats, pontoons, fishing, recreation... all good. Cabela's is a fun stop and would break up any lengthy road trip. read more

The gun staff are some of the rudest people I've ever met. I racked the slide on a used glock to make sure it was ok min wear and the salesman throw a fit said not to take his stuff a part. If you know me, you know that I love America. I love hot dogs, Mountain Dew, flannel, giant American flags and big American cars. but really above all, I love hot deals on outdoorsy gear. That being said, it would only make sense that the Dundee, Michigan Cabela's outpost would be my number one place for fishing lures and deep fryers- and freedom. TBH, with the exception of the slow moving line I couldn't say a bad thing about Cabela's if I tried. I mean, they have food (jerky and fudge), apparel ( Carhartt), recreational items (machetes etc), camping wear, gun$, boats that float, and lots of really nice cookware that would be nice if I was more of an adult and I cooked. And I noticed the folks at Cabela's are v humble about advertising this but there are also several micro exhibits scattered throughout the store, which is fun. As someone who loves animals, particularly ones that last forever and appear stuffed, the exhibits are very fun to look at. Good Job Cabela's! You should have pressed coins. Also, it's in Dundee. And if you haven't been to Dundee, Michigan- you should go. There's a The Jerky Outlet, an Applebee's, an Arby's, a Taco bell w/ really friendly employees, *and* it's halfway between Ann Arbor and Toledo. If you can't find me in Ann Arbor, it's probably because I am now residing in my new chill spot, Dundee. Or Toledo. They're both great places. GARBAGE customer service, what these guys did to me after driving and hour and a half is complete BS and I honestly just felt like my race played a HUGE part. i ordered my pistol online and had to pick it up in store. when i came to the counter and talked to the guy i gave him my id and he went in the back room for a good 10 minutes and came out to tell me that they can't take my id because the corner is chipped(I've attached a picture) i was so furious i had other forms of id but since my address isn't on it they said no. YOU CAN CLEARLY READ MY INFORMATION AND SEE MY PICTURE I HAD MY PASSPORT AND MY SOCIAL SECURITY CARD WITH ME. i cannot believe such things go on like this, in this day and age i called another cabbalas location and they said come on right in its not a problem because as long as my information is clear on there thats all that matters regardless i had two other forms of ID and yet they turned me away and the messed up part is i already paid $500 for this item online if i didn't already pay i would not bother stepping foot back in this location but i have to go back and pick up this gun with another form of ID. I've visited several Cabela's stores around the country and this southern Michigan location is my favorite, so far. The store is enormous; it has a huge gun and ammo section (including a Gun Library that is one of Cabela's most unique features) and the fishing department is fantastic. I was really impressed with the camping/hiking department upstairs on the top floor. This Cabela's also features what it calls a 'Home and Cabin' department that has furniture and bedding items. There is a large hunting gear department with plenty of clothing and supplies. The variety and volume of products at this location will not disappoint any angler, hunter, hiker or camper. Finally, the taxidermy and wildlife displays are numerous and large, and the large walk-thru freshwater aquarium is a lot of fun. This store is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours browsing alone or bringing your family. read more

I used to love to come to cabalas and purchase my outdoor apparel, hunting and fishing supplies, now that Bass pro purchased them and took them over I have been sadly disappointed with the customer service, the stuff they are carrying now in the store or should I say the lack of. I was looking to purchase a new knife tonight and there was no one around to help, the store was not busy either. They just lost a 200.00 + sale and also a customer. I will not shop at either place anymore or recommend it, the small mom and pop shops will get my hard earned money instead of corporations and their greed. read more

Terrible Customer Service - Arrived on December 16th to purchase a Glock 27 and learn the difference between the Gen 4 and Gen 5 models.....I had the cash in pocket to purchase the pistol, a holster, and one box of ammunition. This store did not have a new 27 in the display case but I did see a used one in the gun library. I asked the Cabela's employee if I could look at the firearm and he removed it from the case and opened the slide. I took possession of the firearm and saw it was pretty dirty. The dirt was not a stopper but I knew I needed to look closer to decide if this was the 27 for me. I asked the Cabela's employee if there was a place we could field strip the pistol, that I wanted to look closer. The employee slowly shook his head 'no' and said "i would prefer we don't do that". I told the guy I was intrested in purchaing the gun but I would have to look closer at it, that all I needed was the slide, barrell, and spring disassembled. The Cabela;s employee looked me in the eye and said "that's not gonna happen". I replied "don't you want to sell this gun?...because I'm not going to buy it without a field stripped inspection". This guy then responds "okay, go ahead". I closed the slide and then noted that the trigger guard was a lock (the 27 cannot be field stripped without cycling the trigger).....I looked at the Cabela's employee and said "I can't field strip this without access to the trigger"....he replied smugly "yep". I again raised the question of no sale without inspection and he replied "It's sold as is". WOW!.....I set the 27 on the glass case and walked away. I sincerely appreciate procedures for assure safety with firearms, that Cabela's has safety procedures to follow....but this employee could have accomodated my request and did it without the smug atttitude. I know that my business will not make or break the Dundee Cabela's, I am far from a 'big spender', but I know for certain that they will not get one more dime from me. read more

This isn't because they were offering such great service.... but they did talk about the Cabelas credit card for over 40 minutes. Amazing! Archery, guns, boats, atvs, camping, fishing, and more and more. If you do these things you will spend a long time enjoying the store. Clothing and home decor as well inside. The resturant is a nice touch with wild boar, elk, and bison on the menu plus regular hamburgers and hotdogs. It's a little pricey but not to bad! The mountain of animals inside all stuffed, the African Safari animals, and the walk in 65,000 gallon fresh water aquarium was great for the kids to enjoy. The giant stone bears out front is a good photo opp! We enjoyed it a lot, and hope to go back! read more

If you are an outdoors enthusiast, you will love this place. If you aren't, you will still like to see it at least once. This place is massive, everything you could imagine outdoors-wise. You will find what you need. Everything from food to clothes to camping to kayaks to boats and atvs. The atmosphere is great....cabin-like decorated with stuffed animals and a huge mountain in the middle of the store. It is kind of like a zoo, but all the animals are dead (if you are an animals rights person, don't walk in the store. it is pretty cool but kind of gross at the same time actually). I mainly like the store for its camping gear and recreational products, not necessarily the huge gun library and the hunting stuff(because I don't do either of those things). Also, there is kind of a unique cafe upstairs, it carries wild game meats like buffalo, ostrich, etc....pretty good meat. read more

Very disappointed with the service today. Purchased a $800 handgun and it took over 1hr to get my number called. Knew exactly what gun i wanted. The sales associate grabbed my gun and told me to wait in another line for 2 hrs just to pay for it. The only reason i waited through all this b.s. is because i had gift cards. ON TOP OF THIS THEY PUT THE WRONG INFO ON MY REGISTRATION CARDS AND DIDN'T NOTIFY ME UNTILL I GOT HOME, OVER A HOUR AWAY. I will do all my future purchases at Bass Pro from now on read more

Their bass fishing line of rods, reels, baits and etc. seem to be getting smaller and smaller over the years. Two years ago I would have given them 5 stars, but after my visit today, it's down to 3 stars and probably is very generous at that. I asked a "gentleman" employee there to please direct me to the GLoomis bass rods. He very rudely growled at me and said "They are over there." Nice. Their prices are way to high, their selection is getting smaller and their employees need to be trained in how to have customer service as their number on priority...NOT standing around in employee clusters ignoring anyone that is needing help. I ended up driving back to Brooklyn's own local Knutson's sporting goods store, got the baits I needed and the GLoomis rod. read more

Waste of a trip! I made the 62 mile pilgrimage to the outdoor mecca yesterday to look at archery equipment and get some much needed information from the archery pro shop. I had never been to a Cabela's before, and let me say that this place is huge and probably has everything you could really ever need / want there, but I didn't spend too much time browsing other sections. I found the archery section and proceeded to look at everything, seeing that the two sales associates were occupied with other customers... ok, no problem. I must have circled the pro shop a dozen times and inspected every bow for about 30 minutes, and still no one asked me if I needed any help or had any questions. I agree with reviewer, Tim C., that they have no sense of urgency at that store, they know they're going to make sales based merely on volume, so why bother trying to be accommodating? After waiting patiently while other customers barged in and demanded the sales people help them (despite seeing me standing there waiting) I finally get the younger of the two associates to assist me. I asked him if they had any left-handed recurve bows and he proceeded to open a Cabela's catalog to look... not a good sign, but alright. He asked me what my price range and I told him that I wanted to spend under $350. He then tells me that I won't be able to get a LH recurve for under $600... Knowing this to be false I pointed out that several of the models they sold could be had at other stores in my specifications for the price I was looking for, but he seemed skeptical. Well, knowing that I wasn't leaving there with a bow I at least wanted to try one, since I had never shot a traditional bow before and I was skeptical about buying one online. He agreed to let me try the only lefty model of any bow they had in the store, but took about 15 minutes to string it and get me on their test range. I asked him a few questions about shooting traditional bows, but he didn't seem very knowledgeable or forthcoming with his answers -- I had to pry every bit of information I could out of him. I wanted to know my draw length, since I know it's shorter than the 28" standard, but he told me there was no way for him to measure it with a recurve bow. This was the point that I just gave up and left, because I had read on several forums that they can measure your draw length with a test arrow and a Sharpie or a couple different ways, but since I had received no help whatsoever from this guy I just decided to cut my losses. The one good aspect of my visit was that I was at least able to figure out that I can draw a 50# recurve comfortably, so that assuaged some of my concerns about the 45# one that I went home and ordered from a different store. Bottom line, I won't ever bother shopping at Cabela's again. I found the Bass Pro Shop in Auburn Hills has much more knowledgeable and friendlier staff, and is only 1/3 of the distance to drive. read more

Ok selection in the fishing department, but their customer service is trash. I can't believe how annoyed the sales people were at having to do the most rudimentary parts of their jobs. Simple stock or location of product questions were met with open distain. I had to track associates down because they were actively avoiding multiple customers on the sales floor. Cabela's sells quality products, but they tend to sell them at prices higher than their competitors and way higher than you can find online. Go during the week to avoid the crowds. read more

The best sporting goods store in the world. I always stop here while on my way to Hillman Michigan, or whenever I can. The selection is huge, they stand behind their products and carry top notch equipment and gear. I've been shopping and buying here for years and have never had a problem yet. I don't blame Cabela's it's their company pricing and that's that, but the store is a fun place for most any outdoor enthusiasts that don't hate a chain store. I personally enjoy stopping and looking for an item and then I usually find online cheaper. But on occasion they have things you can find elsewhere hence this stop. This place is pretty frustrating. I've been trying to buy a pistol for weeks and I live in Detroit so I make sure to call and see if they have what I want before I make the hour drive. Every time I call the employees seem less than willing to help and could care less about getting my business. The prices for most items are much more expensive than other hunting stores that I've been to. The archery department is also lacking because they also only sell Cabela's brand bows that aren't very good. The only reason I give this place two stars is because it is pretty convenient because it's a one stop shop for all hunting and fishing needs. read more

Though there was a line, everyone was so accommodating, even offering snacks,drinks and your place in line if you needed to visit the restroom. Outstanding service and education on handguns!
